Chapter 2

I found it hard to avoid Jim and one of his swords brushed my arm. I tripped over my own feet and fell rough on the sand. Warm blood ran down my arm and dripped onto the floor. Jim took a step towards me.
"Get up!" He said, grinning but commanding.
I got up slowly and looked at Jim with wide eyes.
“Use the sword!” He laughed at me as if it were taken for granted.
Then he ran towards me again. I was just able to fend off its blades by holding my sword protectively over my head. However, my panic did not let me hold the sword properly and Jim tore it from my hands with the next aimed blow. It flew far and was impossible for me to reach. Jim grinned. I didn't know what was glittering in his eyes, but it scared me.Was it mad?
His swords were ominously close to me.
I almost panicked ...
Silence.
Neither of us moved.
I was breathing hard, he was very still, and his chest rose and fell at normal intervals.
And there was still madness in his eyes.
Then suddenly it happened very quickly.
Jim headed for me.
Actually, I should have felt the cold steel slide through my body.
But nothing happened.
My head started to hurt again. I fell into a kind of trance.
I grabbed his swords with my hands and gripped tight.
Blood ran down the blades.
Jim 's breath stopped for a brief moment and he looked at me in shock.
"Anna ..." he gasped.
In his horror, I could easily push the swords outwards, since his strength had apparently lost him. Huffing, I let go of one of the swords.
My hand went to his face and I ticked his nose lightly with my little finger. Then I fell weak on the floor and let go of the other sword.
Jim was still staring at me
"Shit! Damn it! What did you do to her ?!" Shayne ran towards us.
"Nothing!", Jim yelled back, "I'm innocent !!"
I nodded.
"Somehow that wasn't even me ..."
I sighed softly and shook my head slightly. The headache was gone.
"We have to get you to Laila quickly! That doesn't look harmless!"
The two helped me get up and brought me back to Laila.

"Man ... luckily I haven't sharpened those things yet! Then she wouldn't have any fingers!" Jim whispered to Shayne when Laila banished my hands and stopped the bleeding.
She shook her head disapprovingly.
"Children, children ... Why do you always have to go so far that someone starts crying ?!"
This statement was followed by hysterical countermeasures.
"I'm not a child! I'm bigger and older than you!"called Jim.
"And I don't cry at all! With such a small scratch, I don't start whining !!" I grumbled.
"Quiet! It's enough !!" Laila flared up again and Shayne just grinned quietly and indifferently while he watched the spectacle.
He stormed into the room and interrupted the scenario.
"What happened?"
We all just looked at him innocently.
"You can only be left alone once and you will kill each other!"
Laila nodded in agreement and Jim and I groaned in unison.
"Everything's fine with me, okay ?! I guess I put this down to myself!"
There was a pause.
"So I want to know more about that now!"
He pointed to Shayne.
"Come with me!!"
They went out and Jim, Laila and I watched them go.
"Poor Shayne ..." muttered Jim.
Laila nodded, then said goodbye too.
She went out because she still had an accident in the engineering department to attend to.
"And what are we doing now?", Jim asked me and sat down on a chair next to one of the beds.
I threw myself on the bed and answered him after I made myself comfortable.
"Tell me something about this world or about the job or about Gary! Nobody here really wants to tell me anything !!"
Jim thought for a moment and scratched his head.
"So ... I was forbidden to talk about the world ... you should find out everything for yourself!"
He mimicked him and I had to start laughing out loud because it was really good.
"And I don't know much about the job either ..." Jim came back to the subject.
"We don't have enough information yet. But maybe I should tell you something about this organization we are in ...?"
I nodded wildly. I absolutely needed knowledge of this world.
I felt uncomfortable and I didn't like playing the naive who believed the strangers.
"Noja ... this organization is there for everything, so to speak! The fighters of evil! You are probably wondering why everything is so big here! But we don't fight bad people like in your world. It's a little different here! Here, strange, evil monsters lurk everywhere and want to eat you or just tear you apart for fun ... "
He fell silent and looked into space.
"Jim?" I asked, slightly concerned.
"Sorry ... I ... just thought of something ..."
He shook his head and took a deep breath.
"Where was I? Oh ... this organization defeats these evil beings. There are different departments ... just strangely we are always used to do the garbage work that nobody else dares to do. We are the best!"
There was pride in his voice.
"And this time it's particularly mysterious, because a gentleman asked directly for us! But we haven't found out much about the case and he's been pestering them up there for quite a while."
He grinned stupidly."You don't need to know more!"
"What about Gary?" I asked.
All this information was on the one hand too much for me and on the other hand I couldn't get enough.
"Gary ..." Jim sucked in a sharp breath.
"I don't like him !!" he blurted out.
"He's brutal and mean! He kills without thinking about it! He would kill his own father if he could get enough money for it. A superficial person!"
Apparently he didn't want to say anything more, because he got up and stretched.
"I'll go to the others! And then I'll do a little more training! You should maybe stay here and rest ... I don't know! But everyone is really worried about your hands!"
He rolled his eyes.
“And you?” I looked up at him.
“Not me!” He grinned. "You are a strong woman and you don't need that! Those are scratches for you!"
Then he went to the door and I was alone.
I rolled over on my back and stared at the ceiling.I thought again about Jim's words.
The whole organization thing seemed illogical to me.
I didn't know why I found it all so strange, but I just couldn't believe it.
I also thought about Gary.
Jim 's stories hadn't been rosy and I didn't know what to think of Gary.
I yawned and snuggled into the pillow. I didn't want to think about it anymore because it didn't get me anywhere anyway.
And so I closed my eyes and fell asleep shortly afterwards.

"Anna ... Anna, wake up!" Somebody shook me awake roughly.
I opened my eyes but couldn't see anything because it was pitch black.
“Get up Anna!” It was Shayne who woke me up.
I got up and straightened my dress.
It looked pretty battered.
"What is it?" I asked confused.
“We have to go!” The answer was short but sufficient.
I followed him.
We went to the lower floors.
After a while, Shayne slowed down and took my hand."Come on ..." he whispered, "We have to be careful! It's dangerous down here!"
His words scared me and I hardly dared to breathe.
He opened a door and stepped inside, I followed him quickly.
“It's good that you are here!” He came up to us and closed the door.
"What's going on? Why are you waking me up in the middle of the night?"
"Gary and Jim are ready, they have everything prepared."
My question was simply passed over.
I looked from one to the other.
“Come on Anna!” This time he grabbed my hand, but I snatched it from him.
“What's wrong Anna?” He frowned.
Again he grabbed my hand and this time I let it.
I didn't know why I pulled my hand away. It happened as a reflex.
"You do the rest Shayne!"
He nodded and sat cross-legged on the floor.
He pulled me on, even though I would have liked to see what Shayne was doing.
"Let him! He has to concentrate now ...", he muttered to me and so I willingly walked on with him.We walked through a long, dark corridor and only his hand gave me hold, which is why I only held on all the more.
A noise was slowly becoming audible.
"What is that?" I asked uncertainly.
"Don't worry! It's just the machines."
Slowly I recognized two figures who were tinkering with motorcycle-like vehicles.
"Is everything ready?"
"Jo! We can start!"
A voice, unknown to me, answered him. We stepped into the light of the machines and I recognized Jim, who now looked up and grinned at me.
I didn't know the other one. But on closer inspection, I realized that he was younger than me and also shorter.
He glared at me with his dark blue eyes.
“It's been a long time since Anna!” His voice was unusually deep for his age.
I estimated it to be around 15 years.
"Can we please postpone the coffee party until later, unfortunately there is no time!"
There was something urgent in his voice. Jim helped me onto one of the machines and sat in front of me.He and the other boy got on the second machine and let the engine roar.
"Hold on tight Anna!" Jim warned me.
Then we drove off.
"Stop!" I yelled, "What about Shayne?"
"Don't worry about him! He's going to get out of here!" He yelled at me.
I looked back into the dark corridor and thought of Shayne, who was probably still sitting at the door and had to concentrate.
A gate opened before us and we shot out into the clear night.
The stars shone towards us, but the moon could not be seen.
I recognized the forest I had seen through Shayne 's window.
We headed for him and stopped between the first trees.
Jim swung off the machine, as did he and the third.
I did the same to them.
"Let them drive back, Gary! Meanwhile, Jim and I are looking for wood!"
The third boy nodded.
I paused indecisively and watched Jim and him disappear into the forest."So you're
