Chapter: And death comes faster than you think!

Early in the morning a rooster crowed over the quiet place. The typical call could be heard all over the farm and a few cows joined in. As every morning, some workers went to work and life stirred on the huge estate. One of them was an employee who always looked after the cows. She was off that day and wanted to go to town for a doctor's appointment. She got into her car in a good mood and drove off. She turned on the radio and looked for a station that worked, but there was only noise. Sighing, she switched it off again and saw something large lying on the street in the distance. At first she thought it was a deer, but as she got closer she recognized the lord of the manor lying on his stomach in the street. The woman stopped the car and walked over to him. Somewhat afraid she turned the lifeless body onto its back and looked directly into the horrified face of the dead man, which was smeared with blood. A high-pitched scream escaped her and panic spread through her.Frantically she got back into the car and drove the little piece back to the farm.

The middle-aged woman rushed into the first building she could find and ran into a young worker, Mitch. "Mitch! Mitch!" The addressed dropped the hammer and turned in the direction from which the voice came. “Mitch!” The woman rushed into his arms and clutched his disheveled flannel shirt. "Brigitte!", He escaped in surprise. "What are you still doing here? I thought you have an appointment with the gynecologist about the baby!" "I ... I was on my way there too, but ... but ...!" "Hey, what is it going on? "" Martin .... Martin .... !!! "" What about our landlord? "Tears streamed from the dark eyes of the pregnant woman. "He ... he's dead!" Mitch looked shocked into the distance, because Brigitte pressed against him and started howling. After a while he carefully pushed her away and wanted to know where she had found him. In short words she described what had happened and he went to get the corpse.Brigitte meanwhile sat in the living room and stared into the distance. She did not notice that the landlord's grandson came up to her and beamed at her happily. His parents had only recently married, so they were on their honeymoon and brought their son to his grandpa. The 6 year old walked up to the woman and carefully placed a hand on her knee. Brigitte started up and took a deep breath when she recognized little Tobias. “Oh Tobias!” She threw her arms around the child, who had been deaf and mute since it was born.

At that moment, Mitch came back with Martin on his arm and shoved the body into the man's bedroom. Tobias and Brigitte had only looked after the 20-year-old and little Tobias looked at Brigitte questioningly before he wanted to follow the young man. The woman was still able to hold the grandchild back and indicated that he should play outside with the cats.

Brigitte went into the bedroom, where Mitch was still standing, covering the body with a white sheet of paint."Brigitte, did you see these strange punctures?" "Where?" "All over his body! I mean, what do you think killed him?", Mitch indicated with his hand where the injured areas had to be. "Killed?" "Well, I think so, because I don't think he could have just had a heart attack! I mean you don't get these punctures all over the body!" Brigitte was silent for a while and looked out the window. Then she just saw Tobias playing with a white goat. "But who would do something like that? I mean here in the country? A murder like that doesn't just happen!", Brigitte mused aloud. “It must have been someone from the farm, otherwise there would be no settlements around us!” “But that can't be!” The woman shook her head in disbelief. "Oh, and how did he die then? Someone here on the farm must have killed him!" Mitch almost yelled. “We'd better call the police!” “Oh, and what do you want to say to them?” “What happened!"" Do you really think they would believe you? You have blood stains on your vest and so do I! They'd rather think we killed him! "" But that's not true! "" How do you not know? I mean, how can I make sure you didn't murder him and just pretend you found him? "Slowly Mitch began to doubt whether he could believe this woman." This is absolute nonsense! What motive would I have to kill him? "" Well, I would think of one, Brigitte! " "I beg your pardon? "" Do you think I am blind? You had an affair with our dear Martin and when he found out that you were pregnant from him, he pushed you away so that his wife wouldn't find out about the two of you! You couldn't bear to be treated like that by him and that's why you killed him in revenge, because he even wanted to chase you from the court! "" That ... that is not true! "" That is very much true! You've probably done research in his office to see when he'll fire you! “Brigitte couldn't accept that!” Oh, and what about you? You know exactly about me and my situation! Who can tell me that you didn't kill him that night and that you want to talk me into that now? I mean, you had enough reason to kill him too! "" And that would be, Brigitte? "" You .... you .... !!! " "Yes? "Mitch started to grin. Apparently the woman didn't know what to say against him!" I saw you once in Martin's bedroom! " "Great! I'm often inside when something is broken! After all, I'm a craftsman! "" Yes, but in the night! I couldn't sleep back then and went into the kitchen to get a glass of water and saw you go into his bedroom! That night his wife was in town on business and stayed there overnight! N / A? Do you remember?"Mitch got a surprised look on his face. Did she actually find out his dark secret?" I don't know what you're talking about! " "Of course not! Well, since I was just curious what you were doing with Martin at this hour, I went to the door and overheard you and looked through the keyhole! I shouldn't have done that, because since you had the light on, I unfortunately saw Martin mount you! "Mitch thought he misheard. So she actually knew." There you look, huh? "" Well, okay, I admit I was with him that night, but what is my motive for murdering him? "" Very easy! He paid you for it and he always wanted more from you, but you didn't want more because everyone else was wondering why you had so much money. But he didn't like that and he blackmailed you into telling the others that you were gay! Correct? " "How do you know?"" Well, I have my sources! " "Great! Then we are both under suspicion, but the estate is huge! How are we supposed to find the murderer? Because it wasn't me! "" Me neither! Let's think about it! Who was there from last night until this morning? All of them are not there! Only the most important! We don't have that much to do at the time! "" Okay, here we are, Tobias, ..... and some others who work on the other side of the farm! But we have almost no contact with them! "" Then we have to let them know what happened and don't let any of them drive away! "" Well, I'll call you right away! "Mitch left the bedroom and grabbed the phone. It rang and rang, but no one answered." Brigitte, no one answered! "" Then we just have to drive over! "

Both made their way to Brigitte's car, but they could no longer drive it. "Great! Why does my car suddenly have two flat tires?""" Did you clean the holes while you were supposed to be on the phone? " "Are you crazy? "" Admit it, you don't want me to get away and you're just waiting for a good opportunity to stab me! "" That's not true at all! What did you do while I was on the phone? " "Nothing at all! " "Yes sure! "" What's that supposed to mean! I would never do that! After all, this is my car! "She sobbed wailingly and looked at her demolished car. Suddenly it thundered and the sky turned black. A thunderstorm had come in the meantime and darkened the area. The first raindrops fell from the sky and left small round wet tracks on the asphalt. After a few seconds it was raining from buckets, so Brigitte and Mitch ran back to the house. Inside, Tobias was sitting with the white goat by the TV and stuffing corn on the cob in his mouth. Completely soaked, they sat down next to the boy and thought about what to do now should.Somehow neither could really trust the other. Suddenly the television twitched treacherously and the screen turned black. “Muh! Muh!” The goat was worried because everything had become dark. "Lightning must have struck somewhere!" Suspected the 20-year-old and stood up. "I'll have a look at the fuse box and bring the goat back to the stable. Wait here for me so long!" Of course, the boy didn't understand anything, because he couldn't hear him, so he looked at Brigitte questioningly. Mitch grabbed a leash and attached it to the goat's collar. He left the other two alone and made his way to the fuse box. With a jerk he opened the lid of the rusted box that was attached to a huge tree stump. The rain lashed the earth and Mitch struggled to see something. “Damn it!” The fuse box was completely broken. The impact must have been so severe that the individual switches had melted.Furiously, he slammed the door again and trudged through huge puddles with the goat to the stable. “Muh, muh!” “It's okay!” The goat tugged on the string and just stopped. "What's going on! Come on, it's warm and dry in the stable! So don't make a fuss!" Mitch unlocked the door and entered with the stubborn goat. "Phew! What stinks like that here?" The young man wiped the drops from his face and held his sleeve in front of his nose. He had to get used to the darkness to make out any outlines. Fortunately for him, a flash of lightning came at that moment, which illuminated everything around him.

"Oh my God!"

Before him there was bloody chaos. Lots of lifeless, blood-smeared bodies lay all over the stable. None of the animals was alive anymore and the blood was already mixing with the incoming rainwater that came in the door. Mitch staggered backwards and hit something with his
