Am Rande der Nacht
In the narrow corner

I am satisfied with this chapter to a maximum of 60% * grmbl *. The dialogues have already made themselves independent again, so that the plot continues to lag. That'll get better in the next chapter. If that wasn't already written and loved by me, I'd just crush this one down. Well, in chap. 8 is finally going on again. Have a little patience.
This time again a title with lame ambiguity. I am more than grateful for any other suggested title T___T. Oh, and suggestions for names for our nice three bloodsuckers are also welcome ... As long as you don't come up with ticks, tricks and tracks. That might cause problems with copyrights; )

"Enough," decided Eliphas. Once again, the smoker's hands searched his jacket, hoping to find another cigarette. "We won't make it today," he said, disappointed.
The knives that had surrounded me until just a moment fell to the floor with a clatter, but the tension that dominated my whole body was not released a bit. With the suspicion of a hunted animal, I looked at Nick, who was struggling to leave the fight behind and calm down again. The tide quickly turned against me. Nick hadn't succeeded in freezing me again, but he had found a far less exhausting method of fending off my increasingly precise attacks: instead of stopping the knives, he simply had them disappear halfway and then they were right in front of me again let emerge. Suddenly I was the one who had jumped across the room, always looking for non-existent cover and a way to hurl my projectiles all the way back to him. I had tried a fireball one single, devastating time, with the result that this one too came back and had seared my shoulder.
Now I was standing in a corner, my gaze fixed on the knives at my feet. Fortunately, Nick aimed a lot worse than I did.My reflexes were also better than his, so I only got a few scratches. But I would have to bear the defeat as well as the small cuts. Against Nick, of all people. What a shame. I was extremely angry with myself and my inadequate abilities. But how could I have turned the tables? How?
I calmed down only slowly, got up from the half crouch in which I had waited for the coming knife and stared at the other two. Nick, like me, was a picture of exhaustion, Eliphas hung there like a wet sack. Something didn't seem to have gone the way he'd hoped it would. I would have asked him if his look hadn’t made it clear to me that this situation was related to me.
"I'll start with you, Nick," he began his résumé dryly, "Not bad about beaming the knives, but you could have been better anyway. We haven't just started practicing these tricks today and it didn't take long, until Kori saw where you were aiming by the way you looked. In contrast, you did not anticipate any of his movements. You won by the bulk of the knives alone. If you had only had one, your chances would have been bad. Still, far from bad. You can pat yourself on the shoulder. "The hands were constantly digging in the jacket pockets and belied the old man's relaxed tone." As for you, "he summed up and gave me a piercing look," You have a good eye and an even better limb, but obviously terrified before your own strength. You were pissed off and in a threatening situation ... you should have simply gone up in flames. "
Nick and I looked at him blankly. "Ronga said you fell off a roof and your wings appeared. So your reflexes are working. Your own fire should protect you without you thinking about it. The knives should have melted. That's why I bought them on special.Instead you stand there like a deer in front of a shotgun. "
"Did Ronga tell you, too, that he sealed my powers?" I hissed.
Eliphas put a soothing hand on my shoulder, with which he managed to make me even angrier than I was already. "It puts a stop to your tantrums, but not vital reflexes."
Was there a hole in the ground somewhere? I would have been ready to dig one with my own hands at any time if I had only had a shovel. Only my much-used poker face saved me from standing like the loser in front of the two who I thought I was at that moment. Afraid of your own strength? What was the nonsense? Maybe a fish was afraid of the water? As a dragon, why should I be afraid of my own fire?
My memory answered the question. Rick almost got killed by me, Lavande wanted to use my powers to split the planet and Ronga put a seal on me.Yes, my abilities may actually alienate me a little. But I could spit fire, couldn't I? And I had already flown. Why didn't it work anyway?
I looked silently into Eliphas' wrinkled face. I just didn't know what to say. Even my otherwise so reliable sarcasm had spontaneously taken a break.
"Let's go over there. Maybe there is another cigarette in your kitchen," suggested Eliphas.
"Why should I have cigarettes in my kitchen?" Wondered Nick.
"Because he probably hid her there," I grumbled contrite.
"What ?!" said Nick indignantly. "Hey, Eli, is that right?"
"Maybe I have, yes," the old man admitted, "I suggest, Kori, you start smoking. It helps if you can make smoke rings."
"I can, so you'd better get yourself a pack of nicotine patches," I snapped and that ended the conversation until we entered the kitchen.
"What happened to your homework, Nicolas?", Eliphas suggested a more innocuous subject, while he actually fished a pack of cigarettes from one of the hanging cabinets. In response, Nick placed two almost equal-sized halves of Orion'sEyeon the kitchen table." Done, "he announced Eliphas eyed Nick's efforts critically, bowed his head and lit his cigarette with a lighter that, according to the kitschy print, clearly belonged to Nick. "Fine, fine," he finally mumbled. His hand disappeared into his jacket again, albeit much more slowly than before. The two stones on the table were joined by a dull silver dagger and a bunch of keys. He pushed both together with one of the stones in my direction. "This is the key to Ronga's house. Your books are on the desk in the study. Don't take them home. If you even carry them out the door, they will turn to dust. You bring the dagger and the stone to your centaur. He'll already know what to do with it.Until that is done, do not hold the stone in your hand for too long. You get the second half, Nick. "The cigarette seemed to have its effect, because the previously reproachful tone had given way to a friendlier voice." Did you understand everything so far? ", Eliphas inquired, almost encouragingly, but did not even wait for an answer." Then again next week at this time, or before, when I call you. Good night! "- said it and almost floated out of the room in a good mood.
"Split personality", I diagnosed soberly, as soon as we heard the front door slam shut. Nick smiled. "At least you've got your sense of humor back. That's good."
"Why?" I asked, alarmed.
"Today is Friday!" He was already calling out. "Did you forget what we do on Fridays?"
"We're paying my debts to you because they repaired Orion's eye, which means I'll tear open a woman for you who will flee you as soon as I'm gone," I replied ."Exactly!", Nick cheered, "Where are we going this time?"
A honey-sweet smile conjured itself up on my lips. "I'll go to Jazz now and see if she's still awake. And then I'll go home ... Maybe." I strolled calmly to the cloakroom, where I took my jacket, motorcycle helmet and the backpack I had brought from the hook. As of today I was a free man. And the fact that Nick had no idea about it made the enjoyment much greater.
"Hey, wait a minute! It doesn't work that way! What about our agreement? You won't be redeemed until you've found a woman for me! What else did I save your life for?"
"The deal is over, Garylein," I whistled as I strolled through the front yard to my motorcycle. Nick stumbled after me. "What? Why?" He wanted to know. I took an artistic break that I filled by putting on my helmet, stepping on, and starting the engine. "What do you have in your hand, Nick?" I asked. He looked down to his right, which was holding the green stone. "Theeye of Orion", he replied puzzled.
"Almost right", I schoolmastered, "That is the HALFeye of Orion. In plain language that means, the stone is broken and I no longer owe you anything."
"Hey, that's not fair!" Insisted Nick.
"I don't care. Sleep well," I warbled and accelerated before he got the idea to jump in front of my motorcycle. As fast as I could I left the mansion district behind me and dashed back into the normal world. It didn't matter if jazz was at home at all, she was a normal person. Admittedly with a bunch of rough edges, but she had no magical powers. A thought that made the drive to her a blessing in and of itself.
Disregarding all the traffic regulations I knew, I reached her apartment in less than a quarter of an hour. My mood lifted suddenly when I saw that there was even a light on in her room on the second floor.I made the stairs behind me in a flash, pulled out my cell phone while I was running and dialed her number. To ring the doorbell at this time would have been suicide. After all, she still lived with her parents. It was then that they really appreciated the invention of the vibration alarm.
A few short phrases later the door opened. Yasemin had clearly not expected any more visitors. She was already wearing one of the oversized T-shirts she always slept in. Her long hair, usually tied high around the head in a ponytail, stood open from her head and was knotted halfway. "Come in," she whispered, already rather tired, and breathed a mixture of toothpaste and dinner smell towards me. "I was still watching TV."
We tiptoed into her room, where we nestled on the bed and stared at the television together. I didn't know the film and the wedding party that was flickering across the screen explained why."A classmate said, maybe that will help me to behave more feminine," said Jazz apologetically, before I could wonder about the
