Night discoveries
Kai didn't lie in bed long before sleep overtook him.
Neyo listened to his calm breathing and stared into the darkness around him. He suddenly realized how empty his life was. For days he had only trained, without rest, without sleep, without a break, without the slightest consideration for Kai or Aimi.
What was he doing? Just left Kai and Aimi alone in the forest because of this ... monster.
Almost automatically, his right hand went to the back of his neck. When he felt three tiny bulges he pulled them back with a jerk.
He took a deep breath and let it out in a single word. “Idiot!” It would be easier to blame Kai. He was with her
but Neyo knew pretty well what he had to do but hadn't done. ° My fault ... ° was haunted in his head, he closed his eyes, but there was no calm. Desperate, he opened his eyes and sat up in bed. He watched a tree sway in the wind and envied him.So free, independent, completely irrelevant ...
He put a hand on his forehead. A low hum rose in his head, causing a severe headache.
Beside him he heard how Kai tossed around in bed, Neyo turned his head to him. The blanket was only hanging on Kai's shoulder, otherwise it was on the floor.
° is he dreaming? ° Neyo fell back into bed, stared at the ceiling. The booming pain in his head got worse and worse, a throbbing pain slipped through his temples. He tensed up.
Kai started talking in his sleep, as far as Neyo could remember, Kai had never done that before. Under a gentle flood of other words, he kept hearing "No, please not!" Not loud, but clearly understandable, in contrast to the rest.
Neyo endured this for almost an hour, then stood up and nudged Kai in the side. With a gasp, the awakened man straightened up, looked around almost in panic, saw Neyo next to him and sank back into bed."What was going on?" Neyo asked quietly, although no one in the room was asleep.
"Just ... a dream ... Everything okay ..." "Really?" "If I tell you!" Kai hissed at his friend.
"It's okay, calm down ..." Neyo said and his voice sounded strange. Kai just looked at him. “I don't feel like it anymore.” Neyo sighed, turned away and disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Kai left the bed coughing. He was allergic to fine dust, and the fact that Neyo had just disappeared in one of them didn't exactly suit Kai's respiratory system.
With one hand he waved the smoke away with the other he felt for the light switch in the dark.
When his fingers finally found him, Kai found that the light was not working. Cursing, he fought his way back to his bed, was less than careless and collided with an object, an edge of the wooden object bored into his thigh. “Ouch!” He cursed whoever set up this room. The object lurched, wobbled a little, until it finally fell over backwards.
At that moment the light went on because Kai hadn't flipped the switch again. He discharged his anger in a tangled torrent of curses.
Then he realized that the piece of furniture he had run into was Neyo's dessert, which had tipped over sideways. The top drawer had cracked open and revealed a piece of paper. Kai picked it up and realized it was a letter.
The author addressed Neyo as a brother in the letter. So Kai concluded that it had to be one of Neyo's sisters. He read on, knowing full well that he wasn't allowed to.
Neyo, beloved brother,
a few days ago mother wanted to send us to you ... she was worried,
but now ...
At this point on the letter, some wavy spots, presumably tears, made the ink blur. Still, it was legible.
But now, she has died ... Father is heartbroken, at least we suspect so ...For days he has locked himself in his room, he no longer speaks ... while ...
A few words had been obscured by jumbled scribbles.
[i]If you can skip the exam for some time, we would ask you to come home ... quickly!
Your sisters, Alya and Mena
Kai straightened the dresser, put the letter back and closed the drawer. He didn't know what to say, it would be best to be quiet ...
Neyo obviously had no plans to return home.
But his mother ... and now Aimi ... No, that couldn't be. Aimi wouldn't strive, no, she wouldn't !!!
The thought calmed Kai a bit, but definitely not enough to keep him calm. He got dressed quickly, soon after noticing that he had turned his trousers on the wrong way round and had his head tucked into a sleeve. Snorting angrily, he untangled himself from his clothes. Tried again.
This time it worked to his satisfaction. He stormed to the door, yanked it open and only now noticed that he had no idea where Neyo was. Confused, he stood in the doorway, leaned against the frame and thought about it, but that didn't work very well. Too many thoughts were buzzing around in his head, which was already messed up.
Then he gave up and slammed the door behind him, a split second later he realized that he had left the key inside!
He cursed angrily and kicked the door. The only thing he got from it was a sore foot and a tiny dulle in the door. Still angry, he marched outside. A violent gust of wind blew towards him and pushed him back. After taking a step back, he slowly got used to the resistance and just walked into the night.
The little house wasn't in the woods, but it wasn't in the city either. At the edge of a large field to which the entrance led, a few trees lined up as if they wanted to warm themselves. The forest was not large and within ten minutes Kai had given it a wide berth.
When he stepped onto the first tarred road, his feet had to get used to the fact that the ground below them no longer gave way. It was still quiet, so quiet that one could be afraid of it. But the idea that someone wanted to disturb the peace on such a peaceful evening seemed absurd!
The street was not lit, only the moonbeams showed you roughly where to avoid bumping into the wall of a house. Kai succeeded more or less well, once he almost woke the dog, who was sleeping in a dog house, by almost knocking over the house, but luckily, the animal continued to sleep peacefully. He walked about a hundred yards before he saw the first street lamp. With his hands in his pockets, he looked at the sleeping city. The windows moved slowly past him, most of them were dark, but Kai saw two windows in which light flickered and cast strange shadows on the street. From the first he heard two voices shouting as he passed. He heard single words and scraps of sentences like "idiot" or "how could you?" and at the end "This bitch" until the voices fell silent.
Shaking his head, Kai passed the second window with a light. Kai was vaguely aware of the figure of a young woman behind the curtain. Then he heard a gentle sob and recognized the tiny figure in her arms. She sang a quiet song, Kai knew it from his childhood, his mother had always sung the same thing, he hadn't been able to sleep. His thoughts wandered to his injured teammate, she probably wouldn't know the song.
Since she was very young, she lived with her aunt, her husband and his sister. Her mother left shortly after the birth and left the little child with the terminally ill father. Soon after, her father died of cancer and she was taken in by her aunt, who was a very nasty person by the way, but worse was her husband. When he was five years old, he threw Aimi into a tiny, dark cellar because of angry behavior, Too cheeky! Did he say ...
She has not entered narrow rooms since that event. Not even at risk of death. Kai went on. From a window he quietly heard a television, in front of which someone must have fallen asleep. Then his gaze wandered to the left, where a large building stared at him. The imposing structure was the hospital, for a few seconds it seemed as if Kai wanted to pass it, but then he suddenly changed direction and entered the dimly lit building.
A lady who looked rather tiredly at Kai was sitting at the reception desk. Kai interpreted an exhausted "Mhmmm ..." as a greeting. "Hello ... I want to visit Aimi Komito, is that possible?" Another sound that was very similar to the first one. Then, "Yes, of course ... you are ...?" "Kai Arimoto." He finished her sentence, she wrote the name on a piece of paper and gestured for him to go inside.E started moving, rummaging through his memory where Aimi's room was. When he finally remembered it, he had long passed and turned on his heel and went in the other direction.
Without knocking, he opened the bright green door.
Quietly and accompanied by a monotonous beep, Kai entered the room. Every step seemed to trigger one of the intrusive sounds. The high-pitched sound pierced Kai's ears and caused a slight headache. He looked at the apparently sleeping figure in the bed, roughly in the middle of the room. It had been dark in the room and Kai hadn't dared to turn on the light, he didn't know why either. Aimi's form let the ceiling bulge a little. Although she seemed to be lying there completely still, deep breaths lifted the blanket up and down at irregular intervals. The whole room was bathed in uniform shadows, some gray, some pitch black. Suddenly a figure crystallized out of the shadows, all in black.Startled, Kai gasped for air, leaped backwards and switched on the light with his bum.
"Neyo !!! Scare me!" Neyo was silent, said nothing, even Aimi's breath could be heard louder than Neyo's presence. Kai stared at him wordlessly. ° I should have thought he was here ... ° shot through his mind. "I hope you have a key with you, because I've locked myself out ..." Kai said and looked into Neyo's dark eyes
Couldn't have been more like a linked book, what Neyo thought could be least read in it. Neyo nodded. Kai took a deep breath. "Have you been here a long time?" Kai changed the subject and tried to cover up the embarrassing moment. Neyo nodded again. "Stop it, it's getting creepy, even with the light on ..." Kai grumbled at him.
"Mhm ..." Neyo nodded again. Kai sighed, "Do you know how she is?" Kai let his eyes
