Who has the choice…
When I stepped out of my coffin that evening, Edward was sitting on the floor next to Ceredas, waiting for me. “We don't train today,” he said. "At least not like usual. Come with me, I want to show you something." I looked at him in surprise. "OK"
I followed him as he went to and climbed one of the watchtowers. When he reached the top, he greeted the vampire who was just keeping watch. I greeted him briefly and turned back to Edward who was standing in a corner of the watchtower. "From here, you can see almost everything, that's why we would quickly notice if werewolves were on the march. So far we have never been attacked because our clan has looked for a rather remote area, they have not found us yet, but that may change. Because of this, we have weapons on each of the towers. "He opened a hidden door in one of the beams of the tower, it was hollow and in it were several swords, daggers and a bow." If we are attacked and you are unarmed, run up here and get a weapon. “Then why did we practice unarmed fights all the time?” I interrupted him. “Was it all in vain? "" No, it wasn't, if you get disarmed you have to be able to defend yourself after all. "Edward replied calmly. The vampire on the tower watched our conversation with a grin. So I'd spent a whopping 2 months preparing to be disarmed. So basically it was for the cat. IF I was disarmed, then would." My skills in unarmed combat do not help me much either ... but to be disarmed I first needed a weapon ... "That's exactly what it's about now."Edward had read my mind again. I hated it when he did that and he knew that very well, but I didn't feel like discussing it with him now." Come on! "I was starting to feel like a dog, but nevertheless I followed him as he went back down the tower and went to Tom's hut. I thought it was about a weapon and not a coffin? "I wanted to know.
"You underestimate me girl!" rang out from the hut. When we entered, Tom was standing in front of us, loaded with various swords, daggers, axes, bows, a quiver with arrows and much more. His ears were probably better than I thought. Tom staggered past us and stumbled and groaned ahead, behind the castle, where there was a flat "green space". If you could call it that, because green was an exaggeration, but there were more plants here than anywhere else on the plateau. Groaning, he dropped the guns into the sparse grass."If you want to kill a werewolf, you have to injure him so badly that he can no longer heal the wounds, a small scratch on a werewolf heals almost instantly," explained Tom. "All of these blades are coated with a thin layer of silver, as these weapons are much more harmful to werewolves than others."
"But I thought we couldn't touch it either?" I asked in surprise.
“That's why the handles aren't made of silver.” Edward grinned.
Edward thrust a bow into my hand and held the quiver of arrows in front of my nose. I buckled it on and put the first arrow on it. A target was attached to one of the few trees. I took aim at it, drew the bow briefly, and let the string snap forward. I just hit the very edge of the target. In my mortal life I had held a bow in my hand at one point or another, but this bow was far too slack. I grabbed another one and put a new arrow on it.This time it was noticeably harder to tighten the tendon, but even before I let go, I knew that this time I would hit. Tom whistled through his teeth. “Hardly anyone has managed it that fast!” He smiled approvingly. But once again I saw no emotion in Edward's face. I locked the remaining arrows and when I turned around Edward was already standing in front of me with his sword raised.
"Let's see if you can handle the sword as well as the bow," he said and handed me one as well. It weighed heavily in my hand; unlike the bow, I had no experience with swords. I blocked Edward's first punch and felt pretty awkward. Edward attacked a few more times, of course always in a way that he wouldn't seriously injure me and I always escaped the blow with more luck than brains. Nevertheless, I slowly felt safer and tried a small counterattack. A clear mistake, because Edward obviously took this as an opportunity to increase the level a bit and promptly disarmed me with the next blow. The sword crashed to the ground. "Never mind. You did really well for the first time." Edward said "Let's try something different." We practiced with kunais, and the classic tanto, a katana, a wakizashi, a tachi, a pair of kusarigama - the chain sickles . It occurred to me that Edward apparently preferred the Asian weapons. Tom told me that Edward used to fight with the daisho, the combination of a short and long sword. But I didn't show any real talent with any of the weapons. Although handling the kunai and the tanto is much easier for me than handling the swords. But the kunai, as I soon noticed, was more versatile because it was double-edged. After I had also dismissed the halberd as impractical, I gave up and fell exhausted on the grass. I could hardly have chosen a stricter vampire as a teacher, but contrary to my expectations he did not rush me this time. But I still didn't have much time to rest, because after about half an hour the stars were already fading. It was time to go back to sleep. I dragged myself into my coffin and no sooner had I closed the lid than I fell asleep.
The next evening, Edward stood at the door fully armed and in traveling clothes. "I'm sorry Anna, I have to go away for a few days, there are rumors that have to be investigated. You will train with Tom for the next few days, I'll leave Ceredas with you ... just in case ... In a few Days I'll be back. "
With these words he was gone before I could say anything. I had a bad feeling that if Edward had to investigate something, it could really just be a werewolf problem. Had they discovered the clan and planned an attack? I hoped I was wrong in that assumption. I decided to start training right away so that I might finally have found a weapon when Edward returned.I went to Tom's hut, Ceredas following on my foot, pretty sure Edward had told him not to take his eyes off me. Tom was already waiting for me. He had shouldered a large net that probably contained all of the weapons he owned. He nodded briefly in greeting and marched to the place where we had already practiced the night before. Once there, he groaned and let the heavy load sink to the ground. Ceredas looked for a boulder on which he sat down and watched us. "Well, what weapon do you want to start with?" asked me Tom. I eyed the gigantic jumble of weapons and reached inside aimlessly. A gigantic sword came out. It was damn long ... and damn hard I had my doubts that it would help me in a fight, but trying is better than studying and that's why I kept it in my hand. Tom now drew his sword too, but made no move to attack me. I didn't really want to attack an old man, but someone had to start first.I attacked him half-heartedly, admittedly I was afraid of hurting him, to my surprise Tom evaded and immediately went over to the counterattack, which I only narrowly avoided. He was faster than I thought. And he was definitely better than me. Because after a short time he had disarmed me. The sword flew out of my hand and crashed to the ground, there was loud hooting in my back and someone made fun of the fact that I was actually beaten by an old vampire. I turned to find Drake and a few of his friends and advisers standing behind me. "I heard you are such a natural talent! And now I come to take a closer look at it, and what do I see? A clumsy vampire who is defeated by Tom. By Tom!" He sneered. Laughing, he and his cronies came closer. Apparently they wanted the chance to mock me while Edward wasn't here. Drake was only a few paces away from me, but he was careful not to get within my reach, apparently knowing that he didn't stand a great chance even against a greenhorn like me.Ceredas jumped off his rock and stood before Drake, growling. Drake was startled, but tried to cover it up by further mocking me. "Oh Edward left his pet there so that nothing would happen to his little protégé ..." he whispered and with every word my hatred for him grew, "how pathetic you are even weaker than I thought, but you can't help being a master as Edward did, nothing can come of that… "That was enough, I grabbed a piece of the thin rope that had come loose from the net and looped it around his neck. Drake gasped and some blood oozed from under the thin rope. Drake was lucky, the rope broke and he stumbled back. The rope cut into his neck, but not deep enough to seriously injure him. I lunged at him with a growl and hit him in the face before I was pulled back by Tom. The other vampires, who hadn't intervened out of fright, now awoke from their rigidity and stood protectively in front of Drake and Tom finally released me from his iron grip.I was surprised to find fresh blood flowing down my arm, which was not my own. I cast an ice-cold look at the crowd that scraped around their leader and saw that Drake had a large gash all over his face. You could clearly see the imprint of my claws. A superior smile crossed my face before I turned around and demonstratively stuck a kunai in my belt. Ceredas followed, but kept his eyes on Drake and his cronies, who in turn fled to seek medical care for their beloved Drake. Tom reprimanded me because of my "little" tantrum, but he probably
