It has always been incredibly difficult to tell what was going on in his head. Even as a child he knew not to reveal his feelings to anyone. Only occasionally did an uncanny rage break out in him, which left a scorched earth. But this time he stayed silent. His face showed
no movement. His fingers slowly slid through a puddle of blood. He turned his fingertips to his eyes. It was fresh and a strong red, even through the gloves of his Anbu uniform he could still feel the warmth.

His white eyes turned in their sockets to overlook the area. Blood, hair, and scraps of flesh and skin were sticking everywhere. Impaled by guns here and there. His hand clenched into a fist. If he had come just a minute earlier, if he had been a little faster, then he would have had more of her than the few remains that now lay in front of him.

The leather of his uniform crunched slightly as he rose from his crouching position. His sober white eyes brushed each of the faces around briefly, only that of his cousin he paused a little longer.
There were so many emotions on her face: compassion, concern and understanding.
Neji growled softly. What did she know? Did she expect that he was grieving now, surrendering to the pain, to realize that he actually felt nothing.

He passed Hinata without a word. Even after he had long since disappeared from her field of vision, he could still feel her bitter gaze on his back. It disgusted him. He didn't want or need her pity. What happened was done. He couldn't help it anymore. Nobody could change it anymore. He had been too slow and now had to pay for the consequences.Reluctantly, Neji's fingers went to his lips. The blood was cold now, but it was part of her nonetheless. The only thing he had left besides a few memories. And for the first and last time in his life he showed some tenderness and gave the last thing he had left of Tenten his first, fleeting kiss.
Her blood tasted bittersweet.
