China girl
The next day should have another surprise in store for Bemoku Sen. The morning started like everyone else, although Moku was in a really good mood and for a long time he had slept properly again. With a big grin he got on the bus and his friend Takeru looked at him totally confused. "Moccasins, what happened to you?" asked he. "Ah, I finally have hope again that I can do everything." Takeru shook his head. "You are really weird sometimes!" Takeru said emphatically and carefully felt his gelled hair.
As soon as Bemoku entered the schoolhouse, all hope seemed to be over. He would get his English grade today and if it were to be six again, Zja would get a letter to his grandparents. So he entered the classroom very carefully and sat down next to Takeru. When the teacher walked into the classroom, Bemoku held his breath, hoping for mercy. "Well, you will get your grades today. Aka-kun you have a 2." The teacher said, handed the work to Takeru and continued reading the grades. Finally he stopped at Bemoku. "Sen-kun, you just pulled yourself up to a five." The teacher said and Bemoku let out a relieved breath. Lucky again, he thought, and accepted his work.
He left the schoolhouse, enough for today, he thought, then the tutoring class with Mai brought him back a lot. Sighing, he made his way home, but what awaited him was really surprising. He got off the bus and looked at the house from across the street. It was not empty at this time of day, as always, because his grandparents were out. No, a small person was sitting on the doorstep and looking at the floor. He crossed the street and looked at the person from the small garden gate. It was a girl, she hadn't noticed him. Only when the gate creaked did she startle and look at him. He stopped in the middle of what he was doing. "Hey Mokusen!" she said simply and got up. "For God's sake Yumei, what are you doing here?" he exclaimed and hurried up to her. The girl smiled. "My father is here on business and I have a ballet performance," she said, still smiling. Bemoku took her in his arms. She was still a little elf, three heads shorter than him and so fragile that you thought you could break her with the beat of a butterfly's wings. "You've gotten even bigger!" she was indignant when Moku released her from his embrace. "Come in and tell me everything you've experienced!" he said excitedly.
Yumei Chen was the only best friend Bemoku ever had. Whenever he left China and went to Japan she said goodbye to him last and whenever he came back she sat on the stairs to the apartment. Most of the time she looked at him and said: "You have become bigger, smarter and more indefinable, but still a terrible idiot."Most of the time, Bemoku had laughed, picked them up and hugged them. Many thought the two were a couple, but that was never the case, they were just best friends. When he decided to leave China for the last time, she was the only one who remained halfway was.
His plan to sell Takoyaki today was forgotten. Instead, he listened to her stories about Beijing and her career as a ballet dancer. "You know, I always thought the Chinese didn't like the Japanese and now I'm supposed to have my first big gig here!" as always, her very high but melodious voice had captured him completely. “I never thought that it would come to this and that I would even be released from school so that I could dance here.” Her voice was permeated with pride. Suddenly, however, she stopped. "But what are you doing anyway? In China you were really good at school." Her look was questioning. "I'm currently under stress, I have to work for my grandparents so we have something to eat. School is also pretty stressful and right now I'm pretty bad." He said, he dropped the tutoring lessons. "Well I could ask my dad if you can stay with us, you know he thinks a lot of you even though you are half-blood. You could go to school and see me dancing." She said and her eyes shone. But a shadow flickered over Bemoku's face. "As much as I would like to go with you, it doesn't work, I have to take care of my grandparents." He said and his head dropped to the floor. Yumei sighed deeply. "Why does life have to be so complicated?" she asked more to herself. Bemoku shrugged. “Maybe it would be boring otherwise.” Was his only excuse. “Maybe.” Yumei says thoughtfully.
A doorbell ripped the two out of their thoughts. Bemoku got up and walked to the door. "Hello Mai-chan." He said surprised and looked at Mai who was looking at him with a deadly look. "Where have you been?" she asked viciously, her face contorted with anger. Bemoku looked at his watch and was startled. It was already six o'clock. “Sorry, I forgot the time.” “He has a visitor.” Now meant a high, cool voice in broken Japanese. Mai eyed Yumei with a look that already bore a bit of contempt. "Hello," she said simply. Then she looked questioningly at Bemoku, who was not feeling well at all. “This is Yumei Chen, a friend from China.” He said, Mai looked at him confused, only then did he realize that he had spoken Chinese. He repeated the whole thing in Japanese. Immediately, Mai's look somehow got nicer. "Hello Yumei-san. I am Mai Kitamoto, his tutor. You have probably heard that he is not that good at school here." She said with a smile. Yumei's look was pretending to be nicer, but she knew exactly what had happened in Mai. At first she had thought that Yumei could be dangerous to her.But when she heard that Yumei came from China, she knew that she couldn't be dangerous to her. "Hello May ... -san." Yumei said and almost got tangled up. Her Japanese was still disastrous, she wondered how Bemoku managed it. "I'll go then so Moku can learn properly." Yumei said, hugged Bemoku and said goodbye to Mai with a strange smile. “I hope I didn't bother,” Mai said as she glanced down the street after Yumei. Bemoku shook his head.
It was seven o'clock and Mai had packed Bemoku with information. "You still have a lot to learn, Moku-kun," she said and smiled. Bemoku hung his head. "Oh man and I didn't do any business today," he said and looked at the plates. Mai had really hit again. “Of course I pay for what I ate,” said Mai. “That's quite a lot,” said Bemoku. Mai shrugged and handed him the money. "And what are you still doing today?" he asked her. Mai thought for a moment. "Probably study. We'll write math tomorrow. I go to a private school and if I don't study enough I'll fly." She said, as if that were the most normal thing in the world. Bemoku grinned. "And you still learn a little today, you always write math tomorrow and I want you to be better than a four." She said energetically and stood up. Bemoku sighed and led Mai to the door. "In the park again tomorrow or is Yumei-san coming?" asked May. Moku shrugged. "I'm not sure yet. Your school is across from mine, just pick me up." He said and grinned. Mai sighed and disappeared, this boy was driving her crazy. Bemoku stayed behind and thought about how he should bring two women under one roof, because even if they were friendly to each other beforehand, he knew that the two would soon get at each other's throats.
