Dear diary,
Yes, that's how my story begins.
So again:
Dear diary,
Finally the overwhelming decision has been made: We'll be moving in less than a month. The goal: Japan. The city: Domino. The people: Hopefully not just machos and bitches.
And me? I feel really ... shitty right now.
My brother and I had actually hoped it wouldn't come to that. But now...
Zoé - you know, my best friend - was probably the most depressed of all of us. No wonder: we have known each other since kindergarten.
My mum said we shouldn't do this. After all, we're not out of the world. Maybe not, but we're on the other side of the earth from there. I mean, England and Japan are not exactly neighbors. But she didn't want to hear any more about it !!
For me that means: accept it. Basta!
Now I'm doing a Japanese course so that I can find my way there and don't lose touch at school.
It's not the first time I've completely left a country, but back then I was still little and didn't notice much of our first move.
For me this is all exhausting and I hope that the move will be over soon ...
Your Dany
Danielle Munir, a 17-year-old Egyptian, dropped her pen on her journal and stretched. It was past eleven; outside the darkness had covered the land like a carpet, just as dark blue as the color of the ink on the diary paper.
Danielle, who everyone called Dany, had almost knee-length black hair with purple bangs and ice-blue eyes. She yawned and got up, only to go to the window and look up at the clear sky. She sat down on the window sill and looked at the endless expanse of the stars.
"Dany! Get up!", Lianne Munir called up the stairs the next morning.
"Yeah!", She muttered back softly. Danielle sat up and looked around the room. So she would never see this room again in about three weeks. The move didn't just show her thoughtfulness. Even James, who was only two years older, sank into his worries in his free minutes. He feared that his relationship with Luzy would break at this distance.
Danielle got up slowly and found her school uniform from the closet. Then her eyes fell on the clock and she was startled. "Damn it!" She cursed and slammed the closet door. "Already so late!"
She ran into the bathroom, came out about a quarter of an hour later and jumped down the stairs. She grabbed a bun and just called a "Bye" to her mother before disappearing out the door.As she did every day, she had tied her hair in two pigtails, each hanging down on one side.
She arrived panting and with a stitch in her side at the school, in front of which Zoé was already waiting.
"Well ... finally there too?" She said with a grin and crossed her arms.
"You can overslept once!" Replied Dany with a cheeky grin.
"If only it didn't happen once a week.", Zoé laughed and gave her a pat on the back. "Come on, we're running late."
In the afternoon, the two sat in their favorite café and talked just as exuberantly as they always had. But then the conversation turned to the subject Dany had thought she could avoid.
"You will write to me then, won't you?", Zoé ascertained.
"Of course! Five times a day," said Danielle, stirring her ice cream.
"That's fine! Every day ten SMS and 40 emails and don't forget you call me four times a week!", Zoé said with a smile and waved her spoon around so that she sprinkled the people next to her with ice.
Dany started laughing when she saw this, and so badly that she accidentally knocked over the vase of flowers on the table. Then all the water in the vase spread out on the tablecloth. Now Zoé began to laugh too, while a waitress came to her table with a forced smile and asked if she could help.
A short time later, the two were standing in front of the café and had not calmed down for a long time.
"See you tomorrow!" Shouted Zoé and waved to Dany.
She wished that time would stand still and that the move would never come.
Three weeks later, Dany was at the airport. Next to her Zoé, who looked like she wanted to start crying right away. "See you soon!", Zoé whispered and hugged Dany one last time.
"I'll be back for the holidays!" Promised Danielle. Then Zoé nodded.
A little later the plane took off and Dany's gaze was immediately drawn outside into the white puffy clouds. Misery and sadness were the only feelings her thinking allowed at the moment. It wasn't long before the girl fell into a restless sleep.
