The sun had risen and I stood yawning and stretching at the entrance of the little hut in which I and Kaede had lived. Like every morning, I had to go to see the Shikon no Tama.I always had a bow and arrow with me. I couldn't even leave without her. But mostly Kaede was with me, she helped me. I sighed once. It was very exhausting to have to protect the jewel all the time. Only yesterday I had to fight against various demons again.

I walked slowly across the gravel floor to the little shrine where the jewel was always. The soles of my sandals crunched against the gravel. I didn't like that sound at all, so I walked over quickly. While I was walking through the village, a couple of women waved to me with a smile, who were already on their way to fetch water from the nearby springs. I smiled back happily and waved. A woman with a little girl on her shoulders came towards me.I greeted her too, just followed her with my eyes until she could no longer be seen. The little child on her back kept tugging at her hair, which the mother of the little ones put up with with a happy laugh. Immediately my eyes became a little sad. How I would like to have a family too. But I was a miko ...

I stopped, but then I ran on quickly. Every morning I had to look after the jewel and then protect it all the time. To wear it around your neck would have been too dangerous. What if a demon suddenly attacked me and grabbed it? No, I always had to be near the shrine. That's why he was right next to our hut. However, I preferred to walk across the village.I didn't like the shrine. But it was my duty to take care of the jewel, so I did this. The sun was shining and the birds were chirping from different corners of the forest. Soon I arrived at the shrine and opened the door. A torch-lined path led to a small pedestal on which the jewel was placed. I approached it cautiously. It wasn't damaged or anything else. Sighing, I made my way outside again, but already I saw a demon flying towards the house. Another death-dancing crow like that. They've been growing lately, but haven't been a big problem. The really dangerous opponents were those in human form. I quickly grabbed my bow and placed the arrow on the string. I didn't even need to aim for long now. I was relatively practiced. The arrow was already shooting at the crow and it only had a few seconds to live.I carefully lowered the bow and saw if she was really dead. Yes, it seemed so, at least she wasn't moving any more. In silence I shouldered the bow again and tied the quiver with the arrows back on. I slowly went back to Kaede. She was already sitting there and making breakfast. I greeted her with a smile and we ate together. Soon I finished eating. The bow with the arrows was in the corner. Smiling, I got up again and told my little sister that I would go to the creek to wash. She nodded, smiling, and then hopped around the small room humming a song. I carefully pushed aside the curtain of the hut and went out. The sun's rays fell on my face and I had the wooden bucket with me. I made my way to the stream. I always had to walk through the forest. Every now and then I would sit down and listen to the birds. It was risky, but I didn't really care.But today I just walked through the forest and straight towards the stream. Sighing, I sat down on the bank of the stream and took off my clothes until I was only wearing a kind of white suit. I filled the bucket with fresh water and poured it over myself. The cold water cooled beautifully. But I couldn't sit here forever, so I got dressed again and headed back.
