Chapter: The departure

The departure

In half an hour everything was packed and we could start. We didn't know where to go, the main thing was to get away. However, we wanted to wait until the evening to be able to hide better in the dark if necessary. At half past eight we stood in front of the school. I looked up to the sky. The sun was going down soon. We started with fully packed rucksacks. Direction to the next supermarket. It was a difficult road because the streets were broken, houses collapsed and cars crashed through the streets. But the worst thing was that everything was absolutely still and empty. No people, no moving cars and no other noises except our footsteps and our breath.
"Kind of scary," said Heike and looked around.
"Yes, as if we were the only ones in the whole world," said the skibber.
"Shut up!" I whispered, not only because I don't like curmudgeons but also because I had heard something.
We walked very slowly behind an overturned car. Then I heard a rush behind me. I turned around but there was nothing. Very slowly I had an inkling. I waved to the others and told them to walk to the bus across the street if I called now. Very slowly I climbed onto the car and shouted: "Well you bums where are you!"
Then I heard a rumble. Two dragons came around the corner. They came up to me a third came out of the air. I expected the one from the air to be closer to me. So I got ready for a punch. And I was right. But when his head was only two meters away, I took my sword back and struck with the flat side. The dragon flew towards the other two and struck them. Now I called out loud to the others: "Now!"
They started walking and I followed them. Swen immediately jumped behind the wheel and started the engine. I checked if everyone was inside. No, one was missing, or rather one. "Anke" called Heike. I jumped off the bus and told Swen that he should leave. He did as he was told and drove off. I looked around. There she was. With your hand on your foot. Apparently she had twisted her foot. I ran to her, but one of the dragons was already on the way to her. I jumped in front of her and parted his head in half. Then I grabbed her on my shoulder and ran after the bus. He had come a long way. But I gave my best and well, theoretically, I ran a new Olympic best time in the 500 meter run. But it doesn't matter. After a short while I was walking behind the bus. Jonas and Danny were already on the roof, ready to help us up. I hurled Anke towards them and jumped after them. I landed well, but unfortunately the kites didn't give up. The two were already just behind us. But at first I didn't know how to stop them. After all, I didn't have a long-range weapon. But then the idea came to me.
“Close your eyes!” I called to the others. I let my sword shine as brightly as it could. And it worked. The dragons were blinded and slammed to the ground. I climbed onto the bus with the others and sat down first. Then I asked about Anke's condition.
"Nothing special, I just twisted my foot. Thanks again," she said to me.
"The main thing is that nothing else has happened to you," I said to her.
Then I lay down on a bench and asked the others to wake me up if something happened.
