epilogue
6/25/01
On this fateful day Eva Steinberger rode like almost every day, on Wednesday she was free to go to work on her bike at 5:30 am on the dot. She drove along Schoßhusen Allee, turned into a side path behind a slightly yellowed skyscraper, snaked through a few curves and then slid elegantly over a curb until she finally reached her destination, the Universal Hotel Berlin.
She parked her bike and entered the building through the back door. Her steps could be heard for a long time in the corridor; no one was there yet. In the morning she was always the first to enter the hotel and mostly also the one who locked the doors late at night. She made her way to the office. She entered in silence. Quietly but purposefully, her steps came to one of the desks and then opened one of the three drawers from which she pulled out a brown-gray folder. She turned the pages hastily, without giving the slightest impression that she was looking at any of the pages. After a while, however, she seemed to have found what she was looking for. She pulled out a few sheets of paper, put the folder back in the drawer, and went with the sheets out of it towards the exit.

1st chapter
8.45 a.m.
"Good day!", Tina greeted her boss in a friendly manner. You didn't see him often. Most of the time he sat in his office or greeted some important guests. Today was busy in the hotel. A VIP guest was expected and, as if one had not had enough to do with 123 registrations and cancellations, the drainage pipes were also clogged that day.
Tina hurriedly walked into the office, where she almost bumped into the chief secretary if he hadn't taken a step to the side."Well my dear, running past your second superior so hastily is not exactly the fine English way. Well, because today is Friday I want to turn a blind eye, but I demand a serious apology from you but quickly "Dream on! You should get a board member, then conceited idiots like you would no longer have the right to call yourself 2nd superior! In addition, I don't have time to apologize to you right now, I have an important phone call." to lead, instruction from the 1st supervisor, from the boss! "Without wasting another word, she turned to the phone and gestured to him that he had to leave.
She keyed in a number that Frau Steinberger had given her beforehand.
"Good afternoon! HUK-Cobug insurance.", A rough male voice rang out. "My name is Tina Schmitt from the Universal Hotel Berlin, could I speak to Sarah Günzel, please?“The voice affirmed this and instructed you to wait a moment.” Sarah Günzel. "" Tina from UHB here. Can you come over here quickly, an emergency? We need you urgently! "" I'm at work here, I can't even leave! "" That's all settled, see you soon. "Do, do, ..." Hang up, just like that ... show ... ", Sarah looked thoughtfully at the telephone receiver, but then went straight to the UHB (Universal Hotel Berlin).

09.12 a.m.
Sarah ran like an Olympic sprinter through the corridors of the hotel. "Am I still in time?", While she was still speaking, she sat down on a chair, exhausted. "Don't worry," Tina offered her a glass of water, "you still have about 3 ½ hours to be at the airport. There you will wait at counter C8. At 12:45 pm Mr. Wiedener's plane from New York arrives , he is an employee of Thomsen Aktiengesellschaft. "" And how do I recognize him? "" He knows what you look like; you just have to be visibly close to switch C8, the rest will take care of itself! "12.45 p.m.
That said, "It'll take care of itself" was easier said than done. The plane with which Mr. Wiedener was supposed to arrive was a jumbo jet and this jumbo jet seemed to be really oversized, because so many people streamed out of it that one could think that 5 jumbo jets had arrived.
It took at least half an hour until the last bunch of people had disappeared and only a slightly too sneaky guy was sitting on one of the waiting benches.
"Is that him, this Herr Wiedener?" Thought Sarah, and as if he had heard the man suddenly stood up and walked straight towards her. Sarah stood there as if rooted to the spot, wondering whether she should stop, or better come towards him. She decided to stop.
The man had still taken a short short on her until he made a little left swerve about 10 meters in front of her and disappeared in the direction of the men's toilet.
*Crap! That's a bummer! Then an order is given to you, you still say: Shouldn't I rather know what my contact person looks like, but no, my dear wife Tina Schmitt says yes, it will work out, everything is planned, of course ... * She was about to turn around and leave when someone grabbed her shoulder from behind. She started, startled. "Miss Günzel?", A young, sporty man stood in front of her. *Young lady?!? *, Sahra thought she had misheard. "Sorry for keeping you waiting, but I had to make sure we weren't being watched." He sounded kind of nervous. She noted that he had a black briefcase in his right hand. "Come on! We're in a hurry." He grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the exit.

1:26 p.m.
Without saying a word, Sarah got into the red Polo she had received from her father and instructed Wiedener to take the passenger seat. She started the car and switched on the reverse gear. When she looked in the rearview mirror, she was almost hit by the blow. A hooded man sat in the back seat, at least she assumed it was one, she couldn't see the face. Before she could think clearly, she felt the smooth blade of a knife on her throat. "Go! Go!" Reluctantly, Sarah accelerated. She would have liked to know how Wiedener took the matter up, but she didn't dare look at him, the blade was just too sharp.
They drove quietly out of the parking garage. “So, right, towards the opera!” It was anathema to her when the distorted voice of her kidnapper rang out. For a long time he said nothing and she just drove straight ahead. Why didn't Wiedener do anything, after all, the kidnapper couldn't keep both of them in check. The whole trip she asked herself questions to which she could not find an answer. How did the man get into your car? "Why hadn't she noticed him when he got in? She was otherwise such a cautious person. It seemed like an eternity before she received new instructions: "Stop!" * Immediately? * Sarah didn't have the courage to speak out and drove onto the shoulder. “Hands on!” Clack, clack. The handcuffs that he strapped around her wrists were icy cold. "The briefcase, but quick!", He looked at Wiedener. He took this a little hesitantly and handed it to him. She hadn't been able to look Wiedener in the face since they left. He looked pretty exhausted. The kidnapper opened the briefcase a little clumsily and you could see a big grin under his mask. "Go on, go on, go on, I'm in a hurry! On the autobahn to Hamburg."
It became quiet again in the car and so they turned onto the autobahn to Hamburg and drove.
