Make a wish!
"I'll tell him, I won't tell him ..." mumbled Herbert as he moved one of the many flowers from the garden. Alone he sat on one of the stone benches and brooded over his plans to tell Alfed a little secret. At some point he had finally plucked the flower dress of the beautiful plant completely and with the last petal his decision was made. He just had to find his loved one.
"And what do you want to show me now?" Alfred asked curiously, while Herbert led him out into the garden.
"This," replied the vampire proudly, pointing to the fountain in front of him.
The young vampire looked a little confused and looked at his guide as well.
"A well, yes what?" Said Alfred simply.
"But this is no ordinary well," the count's son explained and sat down on the edge. "This is a wishing well.""I know something like that. You just throw in a coin, make a wish and it doesn't work anyway. I know that, because I've wasted way too much money on every well we passed, the professor and I," said the science assistant and didn't seem impressed by the stone something in front of him.
"Then none of these were real," waved Herbert off. "But I swear to you, this one is real. I give you my word on that."
"And how do you know that it works?"
"After all, I tested him long enough."
"If I may ask, what did you want?" He looked at Herbert with interest.
"What do you think?" Herbert smiled mischievously and looked Alfred in the eye.
"A ... great ... love?" Alfred asked slowly and thoughtfully.
"Maybe," said the older man playfully. "Wouldn't you like to try it out yourself?"
"I don't know?" Said Alfred and looked into the well water, you could even find remains of coins in the deep bottom of the well, all of which were quite rusty."You said yourself you have already tried so many, one of them doesn't matter anymore."
"It really can't hurt," said Alfred, rummaging in one of his trouser pockets and also found a coin which he immediately sank into the depths of the well. He closed his eyes, folded his hands and made a wish too. While the young scientist stood there with his eyes closed, a smile flickered over Herbert's lips, which however disappeared as soon as the other vampire looked at him. "And now?" Asked Alfred stupidly.
"Now it's time to wait and drink blood," said Herbert. "Who knows," he said while he and Alfred ran back into the castle, "maybe you will find something underneath tomorrow."
The next evening Alfred was awake unusually early. The whole time he had wondered whether his wish had really come true or whether Herbert had just tied him up with a huge bear. In any case, he hurried through the walls, out into the garden. When he got to the fountain, his jaw almost dropped to the floor. There was actually a small package in front of the stony water holder. Curiously, he picked it up and a small label clearly read "For Alfred" on it. A present for him.
"Well? Found what?" Asked Herbert who had just arrived and looked over Alfred's shoulder.
"You were really right," said the young vampire with a happy face.
"Of course. I told you so." Both looked at each other briefly in silence. "Don't you want to unpack it?"
"Oh, yes," thought the joyful and began to open the box, but at the contents his grin turned into a questioning face. “Stones?” He looked at the accumulation of many small colored stones.
"Show me," said Herbert and took the box. He took one of the stones and eyed it. "These are not normal stones," said Herbert and gave him back the pack,
"these are mineral stones."
" Oh yes?And what should I do with it? , "asked Alfred and looked at Herbert with a stupid face.
“What did you wish for?” They both sat down at the edge of the fountain.
"That I am becoming a little braver, and smarter and stronger and ...," the young vampire began to enumerate but when Herbert raised his hand he fell silent.
"Then these stones are just right for you. Look," he picked up a pink one. "This is a rose quartz, for example. This stands for love and you must have wished for something that had something to do with it, right?" The one next to him nodded with slightly red cheeks. When Herbert had told him all the secrets of all the stones and how they could be used, Alfred thought that this gift had been the right one for him. When the young science assistant went back to the castle to find an honorable place for his many little presents in his coffin, Herbert was still sitting at the well and looking into the water. He grinned at Alfred's childish self.He had helped the wishing well get a little gift on his own, but the vampire had no doubts about the power of the well. He fixed one of the many coins in the water and had to think back to the time when he threw this small round object into it and wished for something, namely a great love. After waiting all these years and giving up hope, one day Alfred came to the castle. With a big grin, the man in love got up and followed his loved one.
