Chapter: Christmas angel

Snowflakes swirled through the air, close together, so that the city hidden behind threatened to disappear completely. Even the tallest buildings were wrapped in the wonderful white swirling splendor of winter. It was freezing cold on that December evening, it would have taken the outwardly coldest person in town to take his breath away if he wasn't sitting in his warm office. The Kaiba Corp. was wrapped in cotton wool. there like the icicle that was still sitting and working in it.

Groaning, he put his tired head in his hands at that very moment and closed his eyes.

"Just this one bill, then ..." the door opened quietly and Sophie entered.

"Did I ring the doorbell?" He asked confused and looked to see if he had accidentally hit the button.

"No sir." her voice clear and dark, an indulgent smile on her face; he didn't notice. "I just thought you might want your coat."

"Why should I want my coat?""It's Christmas, sir. And your little brother was looking forward to a party together. AND you don't have a tree yet.", She stated, with her unobtrusive manner and the delicate smile on her delicate face; he didn't notice.

Heaven she was right !! He had promised.

"My coat," he ordered unnecessarily. "The limo ..."

"... it says downstairs, ready to take you to the Christmas market, sir."

*****
Her braided brown hair, the strands of which gently caressed her face; he didn't notice.

Finally a person who thought for himself. He needed someone like that as a secretary. Why wasn't she his secretary, but one of his housemaids? Housemaid? Why was his maid not in his house but in his office?

"Let's go," he said absently but stopped anyway

and didn't move. With gentle force she pushed him out of the door towards the elevator.

*****The gentle look in her deep green eyes, mischievous and considerate at the same time; he didn't notice.

The Christmas market was full of people, but there were no more Christmas trees.

"Shit," he growled. "and now?"

"Now we're going to where heaven and earth say goodnight," she smiled. What nonsense, he thought. They went back to the limo and drove towards the forest.

*****
the snowflakes that had lodged in her hair and were now slowly melting away, turning her hair darker; he didn't notice.
*****

A lonely man stood at the edge of the forest. His breath evaporated in small clouds towards the night, black sky. Wrapped up in his warm coat and a face that disappeared behind a thick beard. Next to him is a single, straight-grown fir tree, bright green like her eyes. The limo stopped. He leans out of the open window.

"How much should the fir tree cost?" He asked harshly."A happy child's smile." was the strange answer. Without waiting for a reaction, the man took the fir tree and loaded it into the trunk of the big car.

He didn't worry and put the purse he had just pulled out back into his pocket.

"Who doesn't want it ..." he muttered.

"And Merry Christmas!" The man called after them before the limo turned the corner with a squeaky referee.

*****
She humming through her hair and was obviously delighted with the grouchy young man next to her, she knew so much more than he did; he didn't notice.
*****

They drove up the entrance to the Kaibavilla. She opened the door for him and he carried the tree quietly into the small house so as not to wake his brother. She got the Christmas tree decorations from the cellar. But not such a kitschy, colorful one. A beautiful, simple and glass ball, shiny like soap bubbles and a star for the tip.

*****
How she moved, graceful and beautiful, this glow that she carried within, her aura; he didn't notice.*****

They silently decorated the tree. Side by side, with one another, without bothering each other in any way and he felt comfortable in her presence.

Much exhausted he was in an armchair.

"I'll make tea," she announced and came back two minutes later with a steaming cup. He put the presents under the tree and then took them.

It struck twelve o'clock from a church tower.

"It is time for me to go, sir." at first he wanted to ask her to stay, but then he let it. She disappeared out the door.

*****
Her unobtrusive way of just being there, her friends alive, her consideration for himself towards him; then it struck him: she was an angel
*****

, a Christmas angel who would put a smile on Mokuba and him too. He wanted to stop her after all, but she had disappeared into the snowfall.

Had he held her there, she would not have hit the car. Yet she died with a smile on her face and returned to her brothers and sisters in heaven.
