Chapter 7

Yakumo was exhausted. He stared into his campfire.
* Three months ... * he whispered, * she followed me for three whole months! *
The lost boy had had enough.
* The next time I meet this mad fury again, I will try her ... * his train of thought was interrupted by approaching noises.
A figure broke through the surrounding bushes and stumbled towards the campfire.
It was ... Ryoko, the demon girl.
Yakumo jumped up and looked at her in horror.
Her things were partially torn, blood was dripping through her robe and she looked so helpless.
She saw Yakumo and wanted to say something, but before the demon girl could utter a sound, she passed out on the floor."What..."
The boy leaned forward to see how she was when more figures appeared from the bushes.
He spun around as he stared at the - just under a dozen - monks.
They looked like they were straight out of one of those old kung fu films that revolved around the Shaolin monks, only they didn't smile so smugly and were so fat.
"Boy, go away! We're going to destroy this demon!" one of the monks ruled at him.
Yakumo didn't like these men.
"And why do you want to kill her?" he asked coldly.
One of them, a particularly fat monk, smiled smugly.
"It's none of your business, my boy, but since you're already asking ... We are demon hunters and we only need one demon to meet our annual quota."
He laughed and drew a dangerous-looking jagged sword.
"So get aside!"
Yakumo looked down at the unconscious ryoko.
* These guys are chasing her, just like she chased me before, but still ... *He studied her features.
* She looks so peaceful ... *
The lost boy sighed and straightened.
"No, I can't let that happen," he said calmly and noticed how the monks looked in surprise.
"You should go now, you have nothing more to do here."
The monks' surprise slowly turned into anger.
"You will regret that, boy," snapped the fat monk.
Yakumo clenched his fists and cracked the bones.
"I do not think so."
Then the monks attacked.

"Uuhh ..."
Ryoko slowly woke up.
She shuddered and grabbed her head.
"Why ... the monks ... I ..."
She opened her eyes and was amazed to find that she was in a tent and that someone had treated her wounds.
She felt comfortably warm. She lay under a thick woolen blanket and felt that someone was lying next to her. Slowly she turned her head. With big eyes Ryoko stared at Yakumo, who was sound asleep - and noticed nothing.Ryoko saw that he had bandages around his chest and arms. Her cheeks flushed slightly.
* He must have looked after me. *
The demon girl's cheeks turned even darker when she realized that she was wearing almost nothing because she had injuries all over her body.
"This..."
Ryoko broke off when she saw the sword next to Yakumo.
"That belonged to the monks ... He must have fought against them ?!"
The demon girl slowly straightened up, although her whole body seemed to consist only of painful areas.
She exhaled under pressure and concentrated to heal her body again. A few minutes later the worst injuries were almost completely gone and Ryoko felt a lot better.
Tired and drained, but definitely better ...
She lay back, covered herself up and briefly closed her eyes.
*I wonder....*
She opened her eyes again when Yakumo moved and straightened, yawning widely."Ah, you're awake ..." she stated calmly.
The lost boy paused and his face flushed.
"We should talk, don't you think ...?"
Ryoko stands up too.
The blanket slipped and exposed her - almost bared upper body. Yakumo let out a tight breath as a huge gush of blood shot from his nose and he passed out.
The demon girl couldn't help but giggle.
After she had draped the blanket around her, she started to wake the boy up again.
* That should be interesting *, Ryoko thought to himself.

"That was the reason that Yakumo and I became friends. In the end - after many adventures and hair-raising experiences we became a couple."
The old demon smiled when she looked into the spellbound faces of Ryoga and Ukyo.
The two young people exhaled.
"And I've always believed that my life was complicated," said her grandson. The young chef looked at him briefly.
"But you do. Seems like a family tradition."
Ryoga glared at her and Ukyo looked back mockingly.
"Children..."
Grandma Hibiki shook her head.
"Anyway. It's getting late and you should go to sleep. We'll talk more tomorrow."
She pointed to the kimonos.
"Your night robes!"
The old woman got up.
"Oh yes, if you should need certain things, you can find them under the table."
Grandma Hibiki winked at the two of them, who were staring at her with red faces and dropped jaws.
"Until tomorrow!" she said and disappeared laughing in a cloud of smoke.
Ukyo was the first to get hold of himself.
"What does she think that ..."
"The wrong!" Ryoga stated laconically.
"But that's also in grandmother's nature ..."
The lost boy sighed.
The young master chef turned to him.
"Hm, hm, that means, demon blood also flows through your veins ..."Then she laughed.
"At least that explains some of your traits, big guy."
This growled.
"And what exactly do you mean by that?"
Ukyo laughed again.
"Thanks for the proof!"
She looked at him teasingly.
"But that doesn't matter, as long as you don't grow horns, I can live with it."
"We have no horns in the family!" Ryoga turned around, offended, while Ukyo began to change for the night, still giggling.
* Hm, is he a "hellish" lover? Arrgghh, bad thoughts, bad thoughts ... * Ukyo stated and closed his eyes briefly to cool off.
"Well, you know Ukyo, I did say that we normally don't have horns, but ... every now and then it happens ..."
Ukyo's eyes widened and she eyed him in disbelief.
"NANI?"
