Chapter 8
Ryoga lay next to Ukyo, staring into the air.
* Already crazy ... *
He turned his gaze to the sleeping girl and thought back to the previous night. When she had forced him to explain the matter of "the horns that do not appear in the Hibiki family in and of themselves, but occasionally do".
Ryoga couldn't tell why she cared so, but he'd been kind of embarrassed to talk about it.
* I would like to know if ... *
His thoughts broke off when Ukyo slowly woke up and yawned sleepily.
The lost boy had to smile.
"Good morning. Did you sleep well?" he said exaggeratedly happily. The young girl looked at him with veiled eyes.
"Why are you so awake already?" she mumbled sleepily.
"Oh, I've been up two hours," Ryoga stated dryly.
"Hmmm, smart ass," replied the kitchen manager and closed her eyes again.
Playfully he tugged at her hair and had to grin broadly when she opened her eyes again and looked at him indignantly.
"Can't you let a poor, innocent girl sleep in peace?" she hissed.
Ryoga thought for a moment and shook his head.
"No."
His smile grew wicked.
"Besides, I don't know what poor, innocent girl you're talking about," he continued.
"That's it," Ukyo yelled as she jumped up and pounced on Ryoga.
The two began to fight wildly, although it was difficult for Ukyo to keep looking outraged because the whole thing was a lot of fun for her. A few minutes later, breathing heavily, she asked, "Are you giving up?"
The prodigal boy, who wasn't feeling much better after a few tickle attacks, just nodded. She was just about to say something triumphantly when the amused voice of Grandma Hibiki rang out behind her.
"I see you are already awake? Are you hungry? After so much exercise in the morning ...", the old woman stated, giggling maliciously.
Ukyo, hunched over Ryoga, blushed violently and jumped back.
"It's not ... like that ..." she began to speak with a stutter.
"Yes, yes, it's okay," interrupted Grandma Hibiki the embarrassed girl and looked at her grandson, whose face was also shimmering in all shades of red.
She winked at him.
"You are both healthy young people, why shouldn't I understand?"
Both gasped and was about to protest when the old woman clapped her hands.
A rich breakfast appeared out of nowhere and presented itself very appetizingly to the young people.
Ryoga's stomach began to growl at the sight, while Ukyo just sighed.
"See you later."
Laughing, the old woman disappeared into a cloud of smoke."She absolutely believes the wrong thing," stated the young chef.
"Hm", Ryoga replied, who just continued to stare at the food in fascination.
Ukyo looked at him and shook his head.
"I don't think you can do anything before breakfast," she stated.
"That is not true!"
Ryoga glared at her and Ukyo couldn't help but laugh.
"Of course, I thought so ... Then you won't mind letting me go first?" she asked mockingly.
Now it was his turn to throw himself at her with an indignant cry. In a matter of moments they were in the most beautiful scuffle.
In one of the adjoining rooms, Grandma Hibiki looked up and smiled and nodded.
"Yes, the two are good for each other. I wonder when they'll get it ...", she sighed.
"I guess people are very blind sometimes. I think it is time to step in," she muttered, stretching.
Her eyes began to turn black as she began to speak ancient, magical words and dark energies gathered around her.-----
Ukyo leaned back relaxed, satiated and comfortably sleepy.
She looked at Ryoga, who was still at breakfast with great appetite.
* He looks unusually happy ... *, thought the young chef.
* ... must be because he met someone from his family again after such a long time. *
Ryoga had told her how seldom he met his parents, let alone other family members.
Because of the Hibiki sense of direction, this was inevitable.
* He should be so happy more often. *
Ukyo averted his eyes when the prodigal boy turned to her.
"Are you fed up, Ukyo?" he asked in amazement.
This exhaled.
"How much should I still eat, my big boy. I'm almost bursting."
Ryoga nodded.
"Well, if you think so, then ..."
He paused and his eyes widened.
"What..."
He felt a spasm go through his body and his hands seemed to change.
The prodigal boy screamed, his eyes starting to turn red and his fingers twisting into claws.A tremor went through Ryoga and he fell to the ground.
Ukyo jumped up to the collapsed boy.
"" Ryoga? What about you?"
She was horrified to see his features change and become more animal-like. His fangs were slowly getting bigger, more predatory. There was a strange glint in his eyes.
He eyed the trembling girl hungrily.
"No."
He shook himself.
"I will not do that..."
Ryoga closed his eyes and paused.
Another tremor went through him and the prodigal boy collapsed and lay motionless.
Ukyo slowly moved closer and gently touched his shoulder.
"Ryoga?" she whispered in a tear-choked voice.
The young girl leaned over the passed out boy and began to sob.
"Ryoga ...?"
The old woman materialized behind her and watched the scene with concern.
* It wasn't planned like that ... *, it went through her head as she slowly stepped closer.
Half an hour later....It was quiet in the room. Ukyo Kuonji sat next to Ryoga, who was still unconscious.
His grandmother stood seriously next to them.
"What's wrong with him?"
The chef looked at the old woman.
"What about Ryoga?"
She lowered her eyes, embarrassed.
"His demonic inheritance has awakened. The dark inheritance of my lineage also flows in his blood," she replied simply.
"Because of my closeness and a failed spell on my part, his dark nature has been awakened."
Ukyo spun around.
"What do you mean by a failed spell?" she snapped at Grandma Hibiki.
"What did you do, old woman ?!"
Anger and worry were reflected in the eyes of the young chef.
"That doesn't matter, child."
The old woman's voice was cool.
"Now it's about helping my grandson."
She continued more gently: "He is not really well, his condition is ... delicate and the decision is still to be made as to what will become of him."
Ukyo looked confused at the old woman."What do you mean, what will become of him?"
"Whether he turns into a complete demon or stays what he is."
Ryoko Hibiki looked at her grandson.
"That will be decided in the next few days."
The young chef closed her eyes.
"Is there something ... that I can do? He's mine ...", she broke off helplessly and grabbed his hand.
Grandma Hibiki thought for a moment and then nodded.
"Yes, there is something you can do. Probably even have to do."
She sighed.
"And I don't think you'll like it, child."
