Chapter: The new

It was such a lovely day out there. The birds sang their songs, welcomed the spring. The sun stood like a queen in the azure blue sky and sent its warming rays to us on earth, melting the last, pathetic remains of snow. The first spring flowers shot out of the earth, crocuses, snowdrops and many others stretched their heads towards the sun.
Yes, it was all out there. But I was in here. Here in the headmaster's office. It was still the middle of the school year and yet I started a new school. To a sports school, of all places! My parents came up with something great.
The headmaster talks and talks, but I only listen with one ear. I intentionally put on a disinterested expression. My new director finally finishes his speech and I only pick up snippets of words like: Have fun and I wish you all the best.
Then the new class teacher leads me out to the new class. She makes a nice impression. She has elegantly pinned her blonde hair back and is wearing a fashionable costume. She talked to me and tried to make the start easier for me. I stared at the floor and walked after her until she stopped in front of a door, opened it and entered the classroom.
"This is your new classmate: Samara Brook.", She introduced me. "Be nice to her."
I darken my gaze a little and let my pair of eyes wander through the class. Some smile at me in a friendly way, others start whispering. The teacher assigned me a seat a little further back, by the window. Without even looking at the other students, I sat down on the chair and immediately turned all my attention to the window and the glorious day that was going on behind the glass.
"Tell me something about yourself," said the teacher, Mrs. Tate, kindly.
"Why should I?" Was my snotty answer."If someone wants to know something, he should read my files."
Mrs. Tate looked at me confused for a moment, but then recovered and went on with the class.
Maths!! My most hated subject. At my old school, I even rattled through the final exam.
The hour just drags by. Endlessly slow. Second by second. When I was about to jump up and run away, the doorbell rang. A sigh of relief passed through the class. In the next instant my table was surrounded by all sorts of people, asking questions over me. But they could wait a long time for an answer.
"Hi. I'm Hilary, the class representative.", Introduced a brown-haired girl.
"I don't care!" I growled an answer and started packing my things.
Hilary was anything but happy about my answer, which is understandable.
"Why did you change in the middle of the school year?" Asked a pink-haired girl and everyone else fell silent because they really wanted to hear the answer. They could wait a long time for that! Bad enough I'm even here. Nobody knew about my past and shouldn't know anything. The faster I fly out of this school, the better.
Sport was next on the schedule. Another double lesson. Since it was still too cold outside, classes should take place in the hall. While the others were changing, I went to see the PE teachers. One was old, with gray hair and a gray mustache. The other, on the other hand, was relatively young, for a teacher.
"Ah, you have to be the new one," stated the younger one. "This is Mr. Granger and I'm Hiro."
I handed Hiro my sports exemption, which my doctor had written to me. They knew, there was no doubt about that. The way they looked at me, so compassionate. I could puke. After everyone had gathered in the hall, the talk began again. Apparatus and floor exercises were on the plan. How I would like to take part.
I watched for twenty-five minutes. Then that feeling overwhelmed me again. It was like everything in me was on fire, my heart contracted into a little something. I felt so out of place that I grabbed my backpack and ran home.

"Why did the new one just run away?" Steven asked in the locker room and rummaged around for his shirt.
"Tyson's lousy floor techniques must have scared you." Tala teased and grinned.
"Pah!", He just replied and put on his pants. "Maybe it was your face too."
Fortunately for Tyson, Tala was long out and didn't hear his comment.
In the playground the tussle began all over again. Everyone wanted to know where she was and why she was acting that way. Max, the son of the class teacher, decided today after school to ask his mom a little bit. But she had already done that after five minutes, because Judy came across the school yard to run towards the group.
"What about the new one?"Tyson blurted out." It's kind of weird, a bit like Kai and that's really scary. "
"I'm sorry, Tyson, but I'm not allowed to say anything about that.", Mrs. Tate replied in the teacher tone and then turned to someone else: "Johnny, could you do me a favor?"
"Sure. Which one?" Asked the young Scot curiously.
"Samara's house is on your way, could you please hand over the book and these workbooks to her?" Asked the teacher and handed him the things just mentioned and a piece of paper with her address. Then she disappeared again.
"Are you coming with me, Oliver?" Asked the Scot to his best friend who had gone the same way. The French nodded in agreement.
There was still a bit of chatting and fooling around until the doorbell rang again for class. There were still physics, geography and a working hour on the schedule.

"It has to be here," said the Frenchman and stopped in front of a high wooden fence.Behind it was a neatly laid out flower garden and a yellowish house that exuded a certain friendliness. Oliver rang the bell on the gate. For a split second there was silence. But then suddenly there was a deafening bark. A fawn American Stafordshire shot around the corner and jumped up at the gate, baring its teeth.
"Nero!" Called a middle-aged woman and came running out of the house. The dog fell silent and sat down on its rear, whimpering.
"Good afternoon.", Oliver greeted the woman politely, as he had not forgotten his good manners despite the shock he had suffered. "We wanted to bring a few things over to Samara."
"Oh, that's really nice of you. I'm Samara's mother.", The woman introduced herself, opened the gate and shook hands with the two boys.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Oliver and this is my friend Johnny."
Samara's mother asked the two boys to follow her into the house, which Nero did too.As soon as they got to the hallway, the dog was paddling up the stairs.
"Your room is upstairs, to the right of the stairs. I'll come up and bring you a few drinks."
Oliver and Johnny went up the stairs and knocked on their room door. Since they didn't get an answer, they just opened it.
