Chapter 6: At least listen to me!
In the schoolyard he sank down against a wall. He wanted to leave, but his legs couldn't support him. Clear, wet traces covered his otherwise happy face. Joey didn't even know why he was crying; he just did it. Why was he crying about something he'd known for years? Why did he suddenly mind? The blonde buried his face in his hands. It hurt so bad, it hurt so bad ... It shouldn't hurt, he shouldn't care ... But this picture just wouldn't get out of his head. It kept reappearing, no matter how much he banished it. Kaiba's gestures contradicted his eyes. Beats pounded on his heart. He didn't want her and he didn't want Seto Kaiba; neither in his head nor in his heart. Why didn't he just disappear? Why didn't he let go of him? They were adversaries, enemies, opponents. They hated each other. Kaiba hated him, he hated Kaiba - didn't he? Maybe his feelings had changed, changed in the wrong direction? But that couldn't be. He was not in love, and certainly not in love with Seto Kaiba. But the feelings, the thoughts - none of that bode well.
Seto ran down the dark hallways. His steps echoed through the lonely walls. Why was he still running around here?Yes, he was looking for the blond duelist, his little dog, as he had to admit a few minutes ago. It hadn't been easy, but there was no other way to explain his behavior, his feelings towards him. He needed to talk to him, urgently. Even if he were to make a total fool of himself, he had to know, and if not everything, at least something.
The leader had turned the school upside down, he had even been in the girls' toilets - Joey was gone. He could already be at home, to accept earlier after the departure. In theory, he could talk to him tomorrow too, but not the entire school had to listen and if he didn't do it today, he would certainly not be able to sleep. Then he had no choice but to drive home to him in his limousine. But whether he opened the door was the next question. He sighed, stroked his hair once, and headed into the school yard. Otherwise Roland always parked in the backyard, but today he had to park in the front because he had had this 'little mishap'.Speaking of which, he was still wearing Joey's clothes. A good reason to visit him. With one movement he pushed open a glass door and took the last few steps to the school yard.
A slight sniff, then it was quiet. Joey's tears dried, his eyes burned, his throat hurt. He had no more strength. The strength to cry was lacking, to get up was hopeless - so here he was, next to the door to the auditorium, against a wall. Suddenly everything collapsed over him. His father's blows, his despair, his feelings. Once again, hot, burning droplets of salt left the blond's eyes, overcoming the sensitive skin of his lips; the duelist tasted the salt, felt the tears. His body felt numb and heavy. The cold of the ending summer slowly crept up inside him. He couldn't, didn't want to. Why wasn't he allowed to die? Left in Paradise? Did you want to see him suffer? Should he split up like his family? He had no more strength.Sleep, what more could he wish for at that moment? Sleep forever. But they didn't let him. Whether he wanted to or not, he was alive and he didn't have the strength to put an end to it himself, not anymore, back then, he had it and hope. Hope for improvement; false hope, as he found out.
Joey heard a door slam, long, wide steps and finally Seto Kaiba stood in front of him. He didn't seem to have noticed him and stared across the school yard. Was he looking for something? Maybe his limousine? Retaining the big, hurried steps, he advanced a little. Joey just looked at him - and then his gaze met two ice-blue eyes. Immediately the younger one looked in a different direction. “Gosh, Joey!” Seto knelt next to him. He sat in front of him, trembling and shaking with crying fits. Like a rabbit in a trap. At the sight of Kaiba everything had come up again. All the pain, all the despair When the addressee tried to put an arm around the smaller one and pull him towards him, Joey fended off this.Kaiba left it at one try, instead he just sat in front of him and looked at the blonde. "I have to tell you something .." "I even know what!" "Oh yes?" Seto raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Yes! How much you despise me, hate me. I'm just a street dog, then I've finally found my place!" Then Joey jumped up and ran from the schoolyard with tears in the corner of his eye. "No, not that ..." Seto looked after him. What should he do now? Joey certainly wouldn't listen to him. He was absolutely convinced that Seto wanted to hurt him with every word. Which was true - until today. He had to come up with something, after all, he always got what he wanted - and he wanted Joey. He had seen the sadness, the tears. He would make up for all these insults, fight for his love.
For the next few days, Joey Kaiba avoided his way, neither looked at him nor reacted in any way to his looks, words, touches. He just ignored him, he was still too hurt. Kaiba wasn't doing very well either. He hissed at mokuba and employees for no reason, let everyone around him feel how he felt: lousy, hurt, sad. But he wasn't going to give up, he was going to prove to him that he was different than he was - and he already knew how.
The duelist tried desperately to distract himself from the events of the last few days, threw himself into work, improved himself in every subject. Now he sat in maths, followed his teacher and gave the correct answers, dared to tackle the trickiest tasks - just not having space for his thoughts. He was about to start another answer when it crackled overhead. An unmistakable sign that the headmaster's speech was about to follow from the loudspeaker above him. However, it was not his voice that came out, but someone else's. He tried NOT to think about him for days, what was that going to be now?"Sorry to bother you. I'll try to be brief." He paused. “I'm sorry for what I did to you.” No specific salutation yet, it could mean pretty much anyone. Keep calm, Joey. "I knew I was hurting you - all these years. Sorry." Why was his heart doing somersaults now? Why was it knocking so hard on his chest? He hadn't mentioned a name, certainly didn't mean him. "That back then in the schoolyard, I didn't want to say it. I didn't mean to. You didn't give me a chance to get it right, you just ran away. Sure, you expected that, but I didn't want to say that. You don't listen to me, don't believe me. "Oh, oh, what if he meant him? What if he, Seto Kaiba, was talking about him? His pulse pounded in his veins. "You broke my ring, you got to me - you stole my heart. You are the most important person for me next to my brother and even if I make a monkey of myself in front of all the students, it is worth it to me, listen you just give me this one more time.- I can't imagine a day without you, without your will, your laugh, your eyes. I love you, Joey Jay Wheeler. So much so that it hurts. "A crackle and suddenly there was an eerie silence. All eyes were on the blonde, who was staring at the ceiling in disbelief. That wasn't really true, was it ?! Seto Kaiba hadn't just been standing in front of the entire school, was it? that he loved him ?! "Come on, go on. "His teacher smiled at him, like most of the others. A silent invitation to leave the classroom. He nodded briefly to his math teacher, gave the others a small smile and stormed out of the class. On to the principal's room! He had to hurry, thought Kaiba certainly didn’t wait for him. He drew an unnaturally wide arc around the corners and came to a stand at the gable to the principal’s room. There Seto Kaiba was walking away with his coat billowing. Ellegant as always. Joey accelerated his steps, Kaiba seemed not noticing him.He held the entrepreneur's wrist in an iron grip, forcing him to stop. Annoyed at whoever was treating him so roughly, he turned around - and his eyes widened in astonishment. He had least of all expected him here - actually he hadn't expected anyone, he had expected to have completely embarrassed himself. “What was that supposed to mean?” Joey's tone sounded sharper than intended and made the other person wince. Seto looked at Joey, long, hard. He couldn't read anything from them, but the sound showed him that the action had been in vain. There was sadness in his eyes. One strong pull on Seto's hand and he could feel Joey's heartbeat, his breathing. Seconds later, the latter had pressed his lips to Setos, who was surprised to find that he was unable to do anything. “I love you, you idiot!” Seto smiled happily and began to kiss back in turn.
