Chapter 2: And Then It Got Dark ...
Shiko stood in front of the hostages with a roll of duct tape and smiled maliciously at them again. Two other hostage-takers stood to her left and right. They were still wearing their face masks and had not yet spoken a word. Both were quite tall and muscularly built. Shinichi saw her escape opportunities rapidly diminishing at the sight of her. The fourth person had also taken off their mask and turned out to be another woman. She had to be in her mid twenties and had an athletic body. She wore her black hair tied in a strict braid. Her face was more disturbing. It was a motionless mask, devoid of any emotion."If you do exactly what we tell you, nothing can happen to you," said Shiko calmly. "They will now tie your hands behind your back and you will stay well behaved. If you resist, we might have to use our weapons." She looked everyone in the eyes to confirm her statement. The little girl started crying loudly at the threat. Her mother tried to calm her down quickly so as not to provoke the leader. But when after a few minutes the child was still not quiet, the pigtailed bank robber went up to her and knelt in front of the girl. Her expression turned friendly and she smiled at the little one. "Don't worry. She didn't mean it that way. You don't need to cry," she told her empathetically and stroked her hair. Gradually the child relaxed again and beamed at the woman. Most of those present had been banned from this spectacle and did not hear the conversation next to them.Shinichi saw the girl cry with satisfaction. Not that he had anything against children, he had been with them a lot lately and valued them very much. No, he was pleased that the crowd's attention was on her, so he could take the chance and flee. When he looked ahead, however, he was aware of Shiko's penetrating gaze. She shook her head tellingly, as if she had read his mind and wanted to remind him of the situation he was in. He cursed her inwardly, perhaps the best way to escape and this woman prevented it. Still, he wanted to risk it. He quickly assessed the distance from where he was standing to the door. 'What if it's locked? 'he asked himself rhetorically, but then pushed the doubt aside. 'I have to try. Perhaps the others will take the opportunity and surprise the bank robbers. 'Millimeter by millimeter, he pushed himself away from the wall. Shiko smiled and slowly walked up to the student detective.Shinichi stopped as a precaution and felt her hand on his chest. She rudely pushed him back against the wall. "You don't want to go, do you, sweetheart?" She breathed in his ear. He heard Ran growling menacingly next to him and hoped that she wasn't doing anything rash. Apparently the woman heard it too and gave her 'victim' a quick kiss on the cheek. Then Shiko turned around and called the woman with the braid to him.
Shinichi was rooted to the spot. That reaction had completely pissed him off. "Shinichi?" He heard Ran whisper. Mechanically he turned his face towards her and smiled tentatively, just to show her that he was fine.
"Tie her up," Shiko ordered in a loud voice. "One more thing, Kaori. Take care of the little rascal. I have the feeling he wants to go home!", She warned the woman and threw a quick glance at Shinichi.
The hostages had let themselves be tied up without resistance and were now sitting back to back in a small circle. They were only guarded by the two masked bank robbers. Meanwhile, her accomplices took care of the safe.
"Shinichi what do we do now?", Ran asked quietly. There was no way she wanted to attract the guards' attention. "Wait," he whispered back. "We could try to overpower them," one of the businessmen intervened. "Yes, we have a chance against these two," agrees another. "You seem to have forgotten the other three. We are also tied up," Shinichi stated soberly. "They don't pay any attention to us," protested Sonoko, who had the best view of the rest of the hostage-takers. “You're only interested in the money!” “Come on,” urged a man. "We'd better wait!" Recommended Shinichi again. He sincerely hoped that they would follow his advice. He couldn't possibly tell them that he had almost freed himself, who knows how they will react and if they would draw attention to him in the process.Kaori had wrapped the tape very tightly and often around her wrists, but Shinichi still had an ace up her sleeve. Or rather in your pocket. He had been able to reach his pocket knife unnoticed and now carefully cut his shackles in two.
"How much longer will that take?" Asked Shiko, bored. "One more thing. I have to enter the password," protested the banker. "Does something like that really take that long Yutaka? Or is he trying to buy time?", She asked further. "Why do you always think so negatively? And yes, it takes so long," answered the addressee, exasperated. His girlfriend rarely trusted anyone, but it was particularly bad that day. "Because you're the optimist!" She purred and smiled lovingly at him.
A strange whirring made everyone pause. Even Shinichi, who had almost freed himself. A short crack could be heard and in the next instant it was completely dark.
Power failure.
"Come on," Schinichi hissed and freed himself from his bonds with a jerk.He got up quietly and stumbled blindly into the room. Now the opportunity had come that he had been waiting for, the opportunity to escape. Although his eyes had not yet got used to the new, poor lighting conditions, that meant that the hostage-takers could not see anything either. Creeping towards the faint light that came in from the door, he bumped into someone. 'Damn it! 'it screamed inside. 'Why does it always get me? 'The person gasped in surprise, and Shinichi realized that he was dealing with Kaori. She firmly grabbed his arm and the student tried to free himself with a jerk. He felt painfully how her nails dug into his arm to keep him captive. "Let go!" He growled and pushed her away from him with all his strength. Surprised by the attack, the woman let go and Shinichi turned back to the exit. A short time later he felt one hand on his shoulder and the other around his arm, forcing him to his knees. To his chagrin, Kaori leaned further forward and now fully pressed down on the floor. Immediately afterwards he heard her laugh maliciously and felt the barrel of a gun on his back. "Be careful what you do next," she warned him. 'From a misfortune to an even bigger one,' the youngster thought dejectedly. He had most likely gambled away his last chance to escape. 'Hopefully the others will have better luck!'
"Shinichi", Ran said as her friend left the circle. "What about him?" Sonoko asked quickly to satisfy her curiosity. “He's gone.” “He's what?” Asked a man, horrified. “Away!” “Maybe we should try to disappear too.” Ran felt the others rise and got up too. With no real clue, she felt her way around the room, her hands still tied behind her back. Kaori's nasty laugh made her sit up and take notice. Apparently she was close to her, as she also received her warning exactly. Her feet moved almost on their own in the direction of the voice's origin. She went on blindly and noticed how she got caught on something and fell forward. Strangely enough, it did not land on the hard floor, but apparently on a person.
Kaori felt a painful kick in her side and someone falling over her. When she tried to hold on, a shot went off from her pistols and a male voice could be heard screaming in agony.

Now the question remains, if the bullet has hit!
By the way, I should mention that I have no qualms about letting one of the main characters die or something like that * laughs diabolically *
But now I urgently ask for a few comments. I'm really interested in how you like the story, because I want to conclude it in a few chapters (approx. 2-3).
So please leave me a comment. Please! If you want, also via email: tbawd@t-online.de
