Chapter: Mission together

Mission together
Tomorrow morning ... there was still fog hanging between the trees. Some rays of the sun penetrated the clouds. Haze glistened on the blades of grass. A cool wind blew through Konohagakure.
Sakura was walking through the forest near her home village. She had just trained hard for a few hours and wanted to take a break in the peace and quiet of nature.
Suddenly she heard a noise. She looked around. A hawk flew over her, landed on a low branch. She saw that a note was tied around his right leg. //an order? //
She went up to the animal. It didn't move and Sakura could easily take the letter from him. She opened it and read the contents. // Well ... // She turned her back on the bird and started walking back to the village.
When she got to the village, she headed for Hokage. She hurried, knowing that Tsunade didn't like to wait.After a short time she reached her house. She knocked on the door and opened it carefully.
She was expecting an angry tsunad that would give her a lecture about why it had taken her so long. But instead of her she saw a tall, black-haired boy who was apparently waiting in the room. // is that about ... // "Sasuke!" She beamed //... I haven't seen you in ages! //
The boy turned around and looked at her with his eyes black as night. "Sakura, is that you?" He looked at her a little puzzled. // I wouldn't have expected it here. //
Sakura was about to say something when Tsunade entered the room. "It's good that you came so quickly." Sakura turned to her. "Good morning Tsunade-sama! Why should we come here?" wondered with a hidden curiosity, "I have an assignment for you." The two Chu-nin were silent. She continued: “You should go to Kiri-no-kuni and pick something up from Mizukage.” Sakura became aware.// After Kiri-no-kuni? It's a pretty long way ... // "It's very important and top secret. So get on your way as soon as possible!" With these words, Tsunade left the room again. Sakura went out too, followed by Sasuke.
"Then we shouldn't waste any time. When do we start?" Sakura asked calmly. "Immediately." Was Sasuke's brief answer. "Ok, we'll meet outside the village in ten minutes." She disappeared in a cloud of smoke, reappeared in her room. There she packed some things in a small bag. //I can not believe it! I will work with Sasuke again! // A smile spread across her face. //At last! //
Ten minutes had passed. Sasuke was already waiting for Sakura on a tree in front of the village entrance. As if out of nowhere, she appeared in front of the gate. She looked at Sasuke. “So, let's go!” She started walking. Sasuke jumped down and followed her.
They ran alongside each other. Now and then Sakura looked at Sasuke. // It's been so long, but you hardly seem to have changed!// she grinned.
So they walked along the path for a few hours. Sakura thought dreamily about the past, while Sasuke was otherwise lost in thought.
They passed a small forest. Suddenly Sasuke grabbed a Kunai and looked suspiciously into the forest. "What's wrong?" Sakura asked and stopped. She looked into the forest. //an enemy? // Sasuke ran into the woods. Sakura went into attack position and checked the area for other hazards. When she was sure that no one else was there, she went into the forest. When she got to the edge of the forest, Sasuke had already killed a giant millipede. “Oh, only bugs.” She sounded a little disappointed. Went back on the way // I would have loved to show Sasuke how strong I am now ... // She sighed.
Again they ran in silence for a while. "Tell me ..." Sakura broke the silence. "... what have you been doing all this time?" She tried to get into a conversation, although she didn't have too high hopes for Sasuke."Trained and such small stuff," he replied. "And you?"
"huh? Oh ... nothing special. Trained, done a few small jobs ..."
"Aha."
Sakura looked back at the path. Didn't know exactly what to say. Every now and then she glanced briefly at Sasuke, who ignored her. // You are really just like you used to be ... //
