Chapter: The get-to-know

With calm steps he ran across the corridor. He was on his way to the canteen to have his breakfast there - the only meal he ever tasted in this boarding school.
At lunchtime there was usually some strange soup, nothing big and the dishes in the evening looked like they had been digested three times - he often preferred to go to bed hungry.
The day had started like any other. He'd got up, watched the sunrise, then headed for the dining room. It was so common.
He walked leisurely on when the loud crunching of the soles of his shoes on the freshly polished Lamynath floor bothered his thoughts and he looked up in annoyance. If it was Wyatt or one of his followers again, they could experience something. Apart from these burdock no one else got lost in this wing. After all, there was only the directorate next to his room and, as he had noticed, hardly anyone was ordered there. However, when he saw who was coming towards him, he was able to tick off the latter incident at once as done.
Blonde, shoulder-length, layered hair - worn open mind you -, large, dark brown eyes that studied him piercingly for a moment and light pink lips - in short: it was Jamie.
Like his own, her hands were buried deep in the pockets of her checked skirt and there was something disgruntled and dissatisfied on her expression, which was clearly reflected in her walk - she didn't go, no, she shuffled.
Without saying a word, he ran past her, his eyes fixed on the floor again. He remembered his thoughts from the night before, when he had been dying to find out what she was up to - now he didn't care anymore, like everything else. He was at home in this boarding school and didn't want to rebel against anything or cause trouble - that also meant staying away from this person. He was about to turn the corner when her voice suddenly caught up with him from behind.
"You are Kai, aren't you?"
He turned back slowly. She stood not far from him, leaning casually against the wall and vigorously brushed a disturbing strand of her pony from her face. Her eyes fixed him ceaselessly.
"Yes, I am," he replied monotonously.
"Kai Hiwatari" she repeated - this time his full name "Kai Alexander Hiwatari."
"What do you want from me?" he wanted to know "I know my name."
"Well, I really hope so" a small grin spread across her lips "until now I have not believed the rumors that you are at our school. I have to apologize to some people."
Confidently she took a few steps towards him and then held out her right hand to him.
"Hey, I'm Jamie Williams!"
Reluctantly, he accepted, but said nothing. Her hand was warm and comfortable, the skin soft and supple."You are the one who made such a racket last night, aren't you?" he finally managed to say a few words.
"Yes, I must be" she laughed, embarrassed, and ran a hand through her hair. "It's nice that everyone noticed it again." - the irony in her voice could hardly be overheard.
"That wasn't difficult either," he replied and in the same breath decided to satisfy his renewed curiosity - if he was given the opportunity, why shouldn't he take it? "what was happening?"
"Nothing," she replied, but he could see straight away that she was lying.
"And should I believe you?"
"Well ... small differences of opinion" she gave in quickly "should happen ..."
"Alright," he snorted disapprovingly. Obviously she didn't want to tell him anything - he was a stranger to her, just as she was to him.
"How long have you been here now, if I may ask?" did she cleverly change the subject "not too long, right?""3 days," he replied tersely.
"Then you have surely already done the tour of the building ..."
He looked at her questioningly, "What visit to the building?"
"Well not," she laughed, "well then it's about time."
"Thanks, no need," he said coldly, "I can do without kid stuff like that."
"But you already know that this is a regulation?" A skeptical look overtook her, "well yeah ... maybe not a regulation, but it's better if you know your surroundings, don't you think?"
The answer came in the form of a common "Hn".
"Okay, watch out" she thought for a moment and thoughtfully rubbed her chin "how about you wait here for me and I show you the inside and outside of the boarding school?" she winked cheekily "there is no one who knows these old walls better than me."
At first slightly, then more and more clearly he nodded. Initially, of course, he immediately toyed with the idea of rejecting the offer, but then decided differently. What did he have big to lose? As soon as she annoyed him he could finally leave whenever he wanted - he was already practiced in that. In any case, it was better than spending his morning with all the toddlers, who were certainly waiting for him again in the canteen to squeeze him out about his Beyblade career.
For her part, Jamie grinned all over his face. "Great," she uttered happily, "see you in a minute. It will certainly not take long."
She hurriedly packed her black jute bag, which she had previously placed on the floor, and hurried with quick steps down the hall. Kai looked behind her until she had disappeared into the director's room at the end and closed the door behind her.
He took a deep breath. Her manner was somehow familiar to him. There was only one person who usually went through life so cheerful and carefree and was not intimidated by his dismissive attitude and this person was called Tyson Kyonima.
She hadn't mentioned his past once.Apparently, like everyone else, she didn't seem to care why he had stopped the Beyblade. Good for her, good for him.
He looked impatiently at his watch. It had been 10 minutes and she still wasn't back. She must have just received the receipt for her previous evening's action.
After another 5 minutes he got angry. Who did she think he was? Your Fiffie? If she wasn't there in 5 minutes, he decided he would go. Then she could show another fool around her fucking boarding school.
He walked slowly to one of the windows and looked out. The sun was now high in the sky and shone with full force. It promised to be a good, very good day. Relaxed, he held his face towards the hemisphere and let himself be warmed - this was exactly the moment when a door was slammed very close to him - and with a not inconsiderable force and force.
He spun around quickly. With a red head she strode towards him. Her hands were tightly clenched into fists, her body taut. When she saw that he was watching her, she slowed a little. Their features reflected anger, anger, even hatred, but also disappointment, sadness and helplessness.
"I'm sorry" she managed and suddenly her voice didn't sound so relaxed and happy anymore, but rather soft and hoarse "I ... unfortunately can't show you around now ... I have no time. Maybe another time."
Before he could answer anything, she rushed past him, raced around the bend and was gone.
A heavy sigh left his throat - that probably meant that he would have to deal with these nerds from the lower classes after all - well, that could be cheerful again.
He also wondered, however, what had happened there in the director's room that suddenly made Jamie suffer such a change in mood ... She had certainly been pissed off.He knew the schools in Japan, Germany and England and there you were simply and rigorously thrown out of the door just because you were late, in the worst case thrown from school.
But if she often pulled off such actions and annoyed the teachers wherever she could, then she had to be used to lecture and ...
Ironically, he broke off his train of thought and went downstairs to the dining room, where he grabbed a small bowl of cornflakes and retired to a table by the window, far from the crowd.
It didn't matter to him. It was none of his business. Whatever had happened in the director's room - he couldn't care less.
Lost in thought, he leaned back and closed his eyes. Maybe he would take a look at the grounds on his own later. After all, it was better than wasting your free time with boredom.
"Um ... uh ... Kai?" a voice he knew all too well reached his ear. He didn't even have to look to know who had joined him again."What do you want Wyatt?" he asked annoyed and crossed his arms in front of his upper body.
"I ... I wanted to ask you if you would like to watch the others and me doing the Beyblade this afternoon" the younger answered shyly "you could surely give us a lot of tips."
"Forget it, little one" the reply was clear and icy cold. She did not smell any major thought, "How many times should I explain to you that I stopped blading?"
"Yes but…"
"There is no but," he said, "I don't want anything more to do with it. And if I don't say anything, I mean it. Has that finally reached you ?!"
Dejected his counterpart looked at the floor. "It should only be a suggestion," he remarked disappointed, "I had no harm in my mind."
The Russian stood up with a stony face. "Just leave me alone, okay?" nimbly he grabbed his tray and walked calmly past the brown-haired man.
