Chapter: Kinko
She crept through the jungle. Some of the few areas of the Asian jungle that have not yet been deforested. The tall plants brushed against Narasha's legs. All the muscles of the white tigress were tense. Her young one, Kinko, tipped after her. He had only just learned to walk, so she couldn't move too fast. But they had to hurry. They were on the run. On the run from the two-legged creatures. Skinless beings who want the animals to die. A flock of birds flew loudly overhead. Narasha stopped and looked after the birds. Little Kinko hid behind one of his mother's front paws. The rustling of the feathers scared him. When the birds passed by, Narasha raised her nose and sniffed. The wind was favorable. Still, the danger smelled. The little tiger cub didn't understand what his mother was doing. He sniffed too, but the only thing he could sniff out was the humid air of the tropics, which hung like Waat in the air.Nearby one could hear a parrot screeching. The sounds of the insects around them filled the silence with a calming echo. This wasn't so comforting when you knew that death was behind you. Narasha bowed her head again.
"Kinko, we have to hurry!" she said to the little tiger cub.
"But mom, why do we have to leave so quickly? And why are we so far away from home?" The white tigress was silent and gently took Kinko between her jaws and trotted on. Kinko was not yet familiar with this kind of speed. The sultry air pushed lightly into his face. The green around him flew silouettes past him similarly. Narasha started to sprint. Through the endless jungle and the vastness of the plants. This speed was impressive. The wind whipped Kinkoi's face. His eyes ached from the colder wind fanning him.
"When are we finally there, mom ?!" he asked against the wind.
"Soon, Kinko, soon!" said Narasha and started to run even faster. The wind rustled in Kinko's ear. A terrible sound, like something long, thin, beating the skin. Kinko's ears fell back, but that didn't help much in keeping the noise out either. His limbs danced with the wind. Kinko hoped the noise would stop soon.
Narasha rounded the last tree. The wind stopped. Kinko felt the warm air of the jungle again. Narasha had stopped. Kinko slowly opened his eyes. A small temple stood in front of him. His mother had told him about it many times. In the past, the two-legged men had built a great many such large stone caves. They were a good hideaway when you didn't know where to go. They saw a large, tree-free place. And in the middle this stone, angular cave. Narasha put her cub down. Kinko was still a little wobbly on his paws. Narasha walked slowly towards the stone walls. Kinko followed her clumsily. The small clearing they were in was free of trees. So Kinko could see that the sun was going down. He was actually getting sleepy. Kinko stopped and yawned very loudly once. Then he followed his mother again.
Narasha stepped into the dark shadows of the old walls. Slowly and deliberately she put paw to paw. They would stop at every little sign of danger. Kinko it was scary. He quickly ran under his mother's body. To smell the familiar scent and to hear the noises of the paws gave him security. It didn't take long before everything around Kinko was pitch black. If he had closed his eyes it would have made no difference. He padded blindly over the cold stones that covered the ground, always making sure not to stray too far from Narasha. But suddenly he saw himself. A dim light, but it was bright enough for him. Narasha ran towards that very light. After a few steps you could see that it was the opening at the top of the temple. The sun had set in the meantime. The full moon shone brightly through the window in which Narasha un kinko were standing. kinko ventured out from under his mother's belly and looked out over the expanse of the Asian jungle bathed in the moonlight. He couldn't see himself sat in the picture. It was so beautiful ... Narasha nudged him and went to the back wall. kinko turned around, looked back once more at the beautiful picture and followed his mother. Narasha sat down on the stones. Kinko jumped up beside her and rolled over on his side.
"You, mama, why did we leave home now?" asked he.
"It was no longer safe for us there." replied the White Tigress and gently ran her tongue over the fur of the little tiger. This opened his still small mouth and yawned.
"Sleep now." said Narasha, laying her head on her paws. Kinko did the same.
"I don't know why it is no longer safe with us," said Kinko. "But if this danger comes to us, I will destroy it!" he said and Narasha ran her tongue over him again.
