The gloomy world around Ikari Shinji dissolved and turned into a bright blaze of colors. Around him stood his friends and those who were close to him. With whom he had spent most of the last few months. They clapped their hands enthusiastically to show him that he had finally made it. That he had reached his goal and could now enjoy the fulfillment of life.
Shinji looked around. The wide world lay beneath him, he was standing on an invisible ground in mid-air, as it seemed, because the houses and streets beneath him were small and hardly recognizable. But he could clearly see the people gathered around him.
There was Katsuragi Misato, who stood next to Kaji Ryouji and Akagi Ritsuko and applauded for him. His classmates Aida Kensuke, Suzuhara Touji and Horaki Hikari.Ayanami Rei and Souryu Asuka Langley were also there and wished him all the best. The NERV team's Ibuki Maaya, Hyuga Makoto, Kouzo Fuyutsuki and Aoba Shigeru were there, as was Misato's pet Penpen. But what Shinji was most happy about were his parents. Both Yui and Gendou stood by him and congratulated their son.
"Thank you!" He answered them and smiled.
The darkness in his heart was gone now. He no longer had to control EVA because the angels were destroyed. Now he could lead a normal life, just as he should have done from the start. If he had tried just a little, everything would have been better from the start. The world could have been a paradise for him too.

The brown-haired boy looked around. He felt as if someone was missing, but that was probably not true, because his friends, classmates and parents were with him after all and turned towards the new world.Shinji went to his mother and father. He felt like he had spent his entire fourteen years with them. But that wasn't true either, because he had been an EVA pilot.
Finally his mother, Yui, turned to him: "Let's go, Shinji. To a new, better world!"
"Yes, Kaasan *", he replied and looked at his father.
(*[O]Kaasan = mother)
Gendou nodded friendly: "Yes. Now begins for and the time of peace. Here you can do everything you always wanted!"
Shinji's friends followed him now and looked into the golden sunlight that should accompany them into this new world. Rei, the pale girl with the pale hair and shimmering red eyes, spoke softly: "Here you can start a new life. Do what you have always wanted."
"And don't give up so quickly in this life, you idiot!" Asuka said gently.
"If you should fall, Shinji-kun, trust your friends. We will help you up again!", Misato said and winked at the boy cheekily.
Shinji nodded. He understood what his friends were trying to tell him.
With that, the world around him dissolved again and people followed Shinji to the city of Neo-Touykou-3.

In the first moment a strong wind came towards Shinji and wanted to pull him with it. Then he felt the white mist wrap around him and pull away. Shinji didn't know where, he just had the feeling that it was good to be blown away by it. Nothing could happen to him now. On the contrary, what he wanted now was start life. Just as he had always imagined. With good friends. To live a peaceful life. With his parents.
Then his thinking stopped. His expectations faded in his head and the white light from soft mist turned into a black blanket that gently enveloped him. The fourteen-year-old boy realized that it was sleep that brought him well-deserved rest after endless agony ...~ Beginning of the story with Chapter 1: An Unknown Melody - Shiranai Merodi ~

Hi folks, it's back to the mandatory afterword!
Well, this is an older story. The prologue and the first chapter were written in early 2004. Wow, a long time ago, almost three years!
Since I just had a long NGE trip behind me today and then scoured my PC to look for old documents, I ran into it again and I really want to complete the story now. I guess 10-15 chapters (no, I don't think it will degenerate into 40 chapters again!) Whose length I can hardly predict.
The title "Lost in a Better World" is of course a reference to the last episode of the TV series (not from the End of Evangelion) and shows the world Shinji was presented with when he found himself . In other words, Misato prefers a teacher to a major at NERV and the pilots of EVA 00-02 are simple students.The sub-title ~ And so You Ran Away ~ "So you ran away from it", a recurring statement in NGE that also fits this. Of course a reference to our dear, chronically depressed Ikari Shinji-kun!
This is not going to be peace-joy pancakes and now they lived happily ever after. But on the contrary!
Kaworu also appears in this FF and of course a song that I love so much that the character in question hums to himself.
