The attack on Moron
-The wounds heal, but the pain remains-
in memory of Molly, Mekki and Benni
"in our hearts they never die"
A baby wolf sat in the shade of a tree, tears rolled from his eyes. It was Lina, there was fog all around her. "Lina, don't be afraid, I'm with you," whispered a shallow voice. Lina opened her eyes. The fog in front of her cleared and a milky white-gray wolf appeared. "Lina, I'll be with you forever. I've been sent until you no longer need me." The wolf blurred with the fog. "I am the fog."
Lina opened her eyes carefully. And stared at the brown earth. From outside you could hear laughing and wolves running quietly around. Lina got up slowly and walked very slowly towards the opening of the cave. She squeezed through and stood in front of the big tree. "Hey Lina," Nacho called to her. "Tomorrow Nacho. Where's Trino?" She asked. "He's hanging out with Mosko somewhere." "Good. Thanks."
Lina knew exactly where to look. She went through many trees, past Nacho's parents' old cave. Tears welled up in her eyes. This cave reminded her of everything that had happened. It had been over a year now, but she remembered it as if it had been yesterday. She went on quickly, she didn't want to evoke any more painful memories of the day when the humans had killed half the pack and their mother.
Finally she came to a hill with no trees on top. She crept slowly up the hill, crouching. Mosko and Trino lay upstairs. Lina stood over her and said loudly, “Well, you two.” Nacho startled and stood straight as a candle. Mosko wanted to jump up just as quickly, but slipped and fell back to the ground. Lina and Trino laughed loudly. "You are nasty, really nasty," growled Mosko as he got up. "Sorry, Mosko. That looked so funny," Lina giggled. "Haha, how funny. What are you doing here anyway?" "How so? I can't be here "" Nowhere can you doze off in peace. "" Oh. Poor Mosko, "Trino fooled around." Now don't you start too. "" It's okay. Let's go, "Lina said soothingly.
When they got to the big tree, Nacho and the other young wolves were already waiting for them. In their midst was a large stag. Lina and Trino went and ate their fill, then came Nacho and Mosko and then the other wolves in the pack. "Tomorrow I'll come with you on the hunt," said Lina. Trino looked at her, "If you think you're strong enough, then you can come with me." "Trino, I know when I'm strong enough for something like that," she glared at him. "I just mean," he said, got up and left. Lina got up too and followed him. "What do you mean, that I'm not strong enough? I am as strong as you, even stronger." They had stopped. Trino looked Lina in the eye and looked at her, "If you think so. We are going to start tomorrow at sunrise, be on time." He started towards the hill.Lina stopped, what was he thinking? She was the leader of the pack, not him.
Lina was awakened by a few rays of sunshine. The sun was rising. Slowly she straightened up. "Wake up so early? What's the matter with you?", She asked Nacho who was just passing by. "Where are Trino and the others?" She asked after looking around. “They left shortly before the moonset.” Lina stared at him. "You wanted to join us, right?" Nacho asked sheepishly. Before Lina could reply, the other wolves appeared with the prey. Trino generously tossed Lina one of the inferior pieces. "What am I supposed to do with this?" She asked angrily. "What do you think? Eating," Trino replied coldly. Lina stared first at the meat, then at Trino. Slowly she bared her teeth and approached Trino. This did not make any reluctant to back down or to adopt a humble attitude in any other way. "Watch what you're doing Trino," Lina growled and stopped right in front of Trino."Why should I?" He asked haughtily, that was too much. Lina dropped her paw directly into Trino's face. Some blood dripped onto the floor and a deep cut could be seen in Trino's face. Trino put his muzzle on the floor, whimpering. Lina turned around. "Nobody tries that again," she said to the other wolves. She walked slowly towards her, then stopped suddenly. "Where's Draw?" She asked. "He ... he was attacked by humans we had to leave him behind," stammered a little wolf. Now Lina was getting really angry. "We don't put up with that anymore, people have to learn that our forest is and that they have no business here," Lina growled angrily. "Go to sleep, it is a long way to Moron and we have to be there before the start of the next day. We leave at sunset." With that, all the wolves left the place and went to their sleeping places.
The injured Trino was still lying in front of the big tree."Trino, go to sleep, it's a long way to go to Moron and we don't want to lose you on the way." Trino stared at Lina. "You know," she began, "I'm not like you. And I never want to see anything like this from you again, you know who is the higher of us." Trino nodded. Lina was satisfied with that and disappeared into the cave under the big tree.
Lina woke up before sunset and made her way to the hill where she had found Trino and Mosko the day before. She stopped on the hill and watched the red sun set over the sea in the south. Shortly before she disappeared completely, she turned north and called the others with a loud howl, and something else. The next moment her pack appeared, and Lina began to move, the others followed her. When they were in the forest, the sun had completely disappeared and it was pitch black. It would take a while before the moon rose, Lina knew that very well. But she knew the area and was sure that she could lead the others until the moon rose.
Shortly after the moon had risen they were already in an unfamiliar area, but the moon guided them through the huge forest. Lina kept looking around, but despite her hunting pace, the others stayed with her. The trees sped past her, and leaves flew up from the ground as they ran wild.
After the moon had set they reached the tree line. And while the others were resting, she strode up a hill, Trino followed her.
“There it is.” “Yes, but we'll wait until sunrise, then the others will be rested and it will be there.” “Yes, I'll go to the others” “Do that.” Trino turned and left to their pack. Lina remained standing on the rise and looked over Moron to the north cliffs. She had never been this far north, she only knew this area from tales of the old wolves.Slowly she turned away and looked behind her to her pack. They all stood there and looked at her expectantly, she turned her head back towards Moron and heard a howl. Then she sprinted off the others after her. Suddenly fog came from all sides and made Lina and her pack disappear. Then they reached the city gates of Moron and slowed down. Not a single ray of sunshine penetrated the city through the fog. Lina, Nacho to her right and Trino to her left stepped out of the fog. Some people ran away at the sight of them, others couldn't move at all. Then Lina howled, then Trino, then Nacho, Mosko and in the end the whole pack. It sounded like they were millions of wolves. Suddenly Lina broke off the howling and sprinted off. Nacho did the same, but disappeared into an alley on the left, Nacho did the same but ran into a street on the right side, the pack split up and followed Nacho, Trino and Lina into the city. The fog spread over the entire city so that no more sunshine could penetrate and everything appeared in a milky-gray-pale light.
Lina rushed through the streets with her part of the pack, ignoring the frightened people on the edge, she had another goal. Again and again the fog cleared and Lina could see empty and abandoned places. Then she saw huge walls tower through the fog. A little later she ran through huge gates and found herself in a huge square. The fog cleared slightly and she could see cages with animals everywhere, the fog got thicker again, and Lina had just been able to make out the many people.
“Free the animals,” she called to the part of the pack that had followed her, “I'll look for Draw.” Lina then made her way past the cages to a slightly higher part of the square. She passed many animals, some of them dead, others struggled desperately with the bars of their cages. "Lina?"asked something next to her. She turned her head and looked into the tortured face of a wolf." Who are you? ", she asked, while she tried hard to identify the wolf." Draw "answered the wolf and Lina recognized him immediately. She immediately started to open the lock of Draw's cage. With a few skilful knocks and scratches, the lock fell with a clang to the floor and Draw's cage was open. Draw stepped out and looked around. "What is it? ", Lina asked him." The others, I can't leave them here alone. "Lina was startled at first, then she looked around, there were cages with wolves all around her." Well, we'll help them, but we have to hurry. "With Draw, she started to open the cages of the other wolves, Lina felt like an eternity that they could have used far better. When all the cages were open, Lina pushed the others, she didn't want any more time Draw ran ahead, the other wolves after him, Lina ran last.Due to the thick fog, it was hardly possible for her to see the man in front of her and so she had lost the others relatively quickly. Finally she stopped and looked around, she was somewhere in the middle of the square, where exactly she didn't know.
"Help us," it whispered through the fog. The fog cleared in front of her and she recognized three horses, a slightly stronger one with a cream-brown fur and a mane and a tail in the same color, only with black and dark brown streaks, one that had a beautifully white coat, and one shiny mane and one more, a medium-sized pony, also with white fur, but with long, shaggy, thin hair under the belly that almost reached the floor.
"Please help us." Lina thought back and forth, then she lifted her paw and cut the strong ropes to which the horses were tied, immediately they galloped off,
