Who I am and why I write
Do you remember your worst nightmare?
Well, I've never dreamed since I existed and it's been quite a while. I am what is called 'dream child'. Now you probably do not know what is hidden behind this term, which says so much and at the same time nothing at all. I would like to come to that later, however, if you will allow me. First I come to thewhy:
I am only starting to tell my story now that so much has been forgotten because I feel inspired by those great and powerful vampires who eke out most of their time in and around modern New Orleans. You have probably heard of them by now, some of the most famous of them includeLestat, Louis, Armand, Marius, Pandoraand many others. Personally, I don't know any of them, have never met them, but you have already entertained some of them with their chronicles, which they are so cleverly able to disguise as mere fiction, and especially the world of vampires brought closer.For my part, I can only do the latter to a limited extent, if not not at all, because that much has already been said: I am not a vampire, although I was faced with this choice and am now again. Just because I'm not a blood drinker doesn't mean I'm not an immortal, because I am. Finally, before I begin, I would like to say a word of warning to you:
On the following pages, do not expect reports and descriptions of historical facts and events even remotely as extensive as in the old or new Chronicles of the(New Orleans -)Vampires, because my memory is far from being not as superhuman as a vampire's. Of course, I can still remember the important stations and events.

As you can see from my previous words in two places, I am a woman. My name is Ira - a name my father attached great importance to.What am I now you ask yourself. I am a demon, more precisely - as already mentioned - a dream child. There has always been an order among the demons, a kind of hierarchy, but now most of the species and clans are independent from the others and very few still adhere to the old traditions. Wedream childrenwere (and still are) relatively low among the demons, but one of the very few species that are immortal. Not infrequently, therefore, some of us have worked our way up in our position over the generations. The name of our species 'dream child' comes from the fact that we feed on the dreams, namely the nightmares of people. We can influence their dreams to achieve that. While this means that we cause nightmares, we usually don't kill people with them and there would be nightmares without us. In this respect, we are more 'harmless' than other types of demons or vampires, for example.Besides, we cannot dream ourselves.
For my part, I have been living for three hundred and sixty-nine years, so since 1638. I was born in Versailles, France. In that year Louis XIV, who later became known worldwide as the 'Sun King', was born inSaint-Germain-en-Laye.
