The Sleepwalker - When Nightmares Come True

Chapter 5

The dream felt so alive.

She could smell the pine trees and feel the cold, clear water as she went into the lake.
It was a lovely sunny day. So sunny that everything seemed to glitter and shimmer. The colors were so bright and intense. It was surrounded by a veil of bright yellow. Yellow as the sunshine, so warm, so bright.
Under her feet the blue water, blue and cold. The soft waves caught the sunlight and played around her bare ankles.
She ran across the water, walking normally but slowly, looking straight ahead, always straight ahead across the wide lake. What a wonderful day!
But she was unable to shake off her frightening thoughts.
Someone was watching them from the bank. Someone stared at her as she walked across the water. Who was that?
She turned around because she wanted to see it, but the sheen, the shimmering yellow sheen, blinded her. She closed her eyes and looked away. The yellow sheen was like a curtain. She couldn't see behind it, couldn't see who was watching her.
The water suddenly grew colder. The waves hit her legs harder. The sunlight faded and suddenly turned gray, then black.

Sakura woke up. She looked around.
° Where am I ?? °, she thought.
The trees rustled and the wind blew her nightgown.
° I've sleepwalked again ... I'm on the street in my nightgown again ... ° she stated.
Around them stood tall pine trees, low bushes, an overturned tricycle in the driveway of a large old house that looked very gloomy. That wasn't her house. Paralyzed with fear, Sakura stood staring at the house. ° Where am I? °, she kept asking herself. There was no light anywhere, it was dark and quiet everywhere. Only the trees rubbing against each other with the branches made soft noises.
She shivered and looked at her feet, they were damp and icy cold. She was standing in a puddle and her feet were covered in mud.
The wind eased and everything was quiet, only Sakura moved. She ran under the trees, which were now quiet. She could see a road behind the low bushes. The street looked familiar to her, but still strange.
Sakura saw a street lamp with a street sign on it. She ran over to it, passing another dark, old house. ° Do I not know this house? Why does the street look so familiar to me? How far did I go? Am I dreaming again? °, all these questions tormented her. She quickened her pace and finally ran to the lantern. She glanced at the street sign.
Lexington Street.
She closed her eyes, shook her head, and looked at the sign again. It was still there.
Lexington Street.
What was she doing here?
She looked at the sign one more time. It wasn't a dream. She had walked down Lexington Street in her nightgown in her sleep in the middle of the night. But what was she doing here? Find something?

Sakura would probably have stayed here the whole time and would have thought if she hadn't noticed that she was no longer alone. A car door slammed behind her, causing her to turn around. She was first blinded by the headlights before she realized that it was a police car.
She hoped this was just a dream too; but it was not like that.
"Miss?"
Sakura didn't answer the police officer.
"Miss? What are you doing out here? In the middle of the night?"
The police officer was now right in front of her and looked at her inquiringly.
"Um ... I ... I don't know either," Sakura muttered.“Are you all right?” Another scrutinizing look from the official.
"I think so ... yes"
"Are you hurt? Did someone bring you here?"
"No nobody."
Carefully he took her arm and took her to the car. "I'll take you home."
"Thanks sir."

This time, Sakura's mother stopped joking and took it very seriously.
The police car had barely stopped when she ran out the front door and you could see fear, but also surprise on her face when she saw her daughter with the policeman. She thanked the policeman and he disappeared again.
Mrs. Haruno went into the kitchen with her daughter, made her a hot chocolate and sakura told her about the dream.
"Then I was on Lexington Street ... I can't remember anything else," Sakura said in a trembling voice. Her mother went to her and hugged her."Everything will be fine, little one."
"Why am I doing this? I just don't understand ..."
"I can't help you with that either, Sakura. I don't know much about sleepwalking, but don't lose your head on this one."
"How am I supposed to think I'm normal if I walk all the way to Lexington Street at night ?? Don't lose my head ... Great." Sakura knew that her mother was just trying to calm her down and didn't blame her, but somehow it helped Nothing.
"As soon as Dr. Umino, or whatever you call him, shrink, is back in the hospital, we'll go to see him. He's on vacation this week."
"How can he help me?", Sakura asked bitterly and drank her hot chocolate.
"He will be able to help you, he certainly knows about sleepwalking."
Sakura said nothing to that. She took another sip of her hot chocolate and then warmed her hands on the mug.
"I think it would be better if we sleep on it first," said her mother finally, "maybe your little sister should sleep with you, she is a light sleeper and would notice if you got up."Sakura was about to start answering when Yuri came running into the kitchen, as if on command, with arms outstretched and eyes closed. "Uh. I'm a sleepwalker," Kim said in a ghostly voice, "uhhh." "Yuri! Stop it!", Sakura snapped at her sister, because she didn't find it funny at all. But Kim continued. "Sleepwalker," she repeated over and over and kept walking like a zombie through the kitchen.
Sakura rolled her eyes in annoyance and went into her room without saying another word. Mrs. Haruno admonished Yuri not to do this again and brought her back to bed.
Sakura lay awake in her bed, she couldn't or better said she didn't want to fall asleep. Whenever she was close to it, she kept awake. She was just too scared.

Gaara seemed really worried about Sakura. The next morning he was at the door quite early, although Sakura was just about to go to Mrs. Uchiha's work. They were now sitting together on the carpet in the living room. "And are you really well?" Asked Gaara worriedly. Sakura nodded. "Yes, I think so," she assured him.
"And you really want to see that soul doctor?"
"Must be ..."
"I could hypnotize you too ... I've been doing a lot of magic with my magic lately and this method should really help."
"Hahaha.", Said Sakura and kissed him briefly, "my mom says this Dr. Umino is supposed to be really good. He was doing sleepwalking studies or something ..."
"Okay ..." said Gaara.
"I really have to go to work now."
"May I take you there?"
"Sure," said Sakura and smiled. Together they ran to Mrs. Uchiha's house on Lexington Street.

-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------

"Kumiko? Where is Mrs. Uchiha?", Sakura asked when she came through the door and the black cat looked at her with her green eyes.
When she knocked on the door, the old lady hadn't responded."Mrs. Uchiha ??", Sakura called her name again and again, but there was no answer. ° Maybe she is upstairs °, with this thought she climbed the stairs.
Since the bedroom door was ajar, she looked in, but Mrs. Uchiha wasn't there. She entered the bedroom and was about to knock on the bathroom door when she heard the shower go on.
° So she's taking a shower, ° thought Sakura. She was about to go back downstairs and prepare lunch when her gaze fell on the small chest of drawers in front of the bed. There was a black candle that had burned down to a small stump and was stuck in a black candle holder. Sakura shuddered. Then she saw a small jewelry box next to the candle and noticed that the pearls of her pearl necklace were in this box ... Why were they exactly next to the black candle?
But Sakura didn't have time to think about it, because the water was turned off in the bathroom and she then snuck down into the kitchen. It was probably better if Mrs. Uchiha did not see in her bedroom.
Sakura was almost finished with lunch when Mrs. Uchiha finally entered the kitchen. "Sorry, I overslept this morning ..." she said to Sakura.
"Never mind," smiled Sakura, "lunch is almost ready."
Mrs. Uchiha sat at the kitchen table and watched Sakura. "You look tired," said the old lady.
"I didn't sleep very well tonight. Nothing more."
"Then your mother should make sure that you go to bed on time ...", Mrs. Uchiha said with a funny smile, "how is she actually?"
° She still remembers her ... °, thought Sakura, ° well then. °
"She's fine so far," Sakura said curtly. Then they ate lunch.

Since it was thunderstorm at noon, Sakura and Mrs. Uchiha could not go for a walk by the lake. So they decided to just read a few extra chapters. This also has been good.So Sakura was distracted from her dream and Mrs. Uchiha from her memories from old times.
When Sakura made his way home a few hours later, it was still raining. She ran quickly down Lexington Street to get home quickly and bring back the memories of last night. At about the level of the cemetery she heard footsteps behind her and a little panic rose in her. Was that yesterday's man again? She trembled slightly and ran even faster. ° Who's after me again now? And what does the guy want from me? °, she asked herself, slightly frightened, and quickened her pace a bit. "Hey! Sakura, wait!"
