The last firefly: Part I: Sho's decision

I. Prolog

"Is that him ?"
"Yes, this is Ryo's little brother."
"Unbelievable! I mean, they are not at all alike. Are you sure that the two are related? When I think of Ryo, the little one seems like a bad caricature of a bespectacled miniature dwarf palm."
"Well, the dwarf apparently got all the rivet genes. What bad luck to be Ryo's little brother for such a zero!"
The two girls, about 12 years old, laughed. Sho had forcibly had the pleasure of involuntarily attending this conversation, because the two hadn't exactly commented quietly on his shortcomings. Her malicious remarks made the boy's dwarfish figure slump even further.
"I'm used to hearing something like that. Why the hell does it bother me?
Sho desperately fought back tears. The 10 year old quickly disappeared in the forest.The girls were amazed when their victim suddenly vanished into thin air.
Sho sat in the old oak that had served him as a secret place for years. The tree was hollow inside, so that a small figure like Sho could easily sit in it.
"At least you shouldn't notice that I'm crying like a baby", Sho thought while the tears ran down his face.
"Why, why, why am I so stupid, so useless !!!!!!!!!!! Why can't I be like Ryo !!! Why isn't there something I can do better. Why, why! !!!!!!!!
Sho sat in his hiding place for a while and cried aloud to himself. Suddenly he was startled in horror. He would be late for school. As fast as his short legs could carry him, he ran the way to his elementary school. Yes, in vain. Sho was a full 10 minutes late and earned a vigorous rant from the teacher, whereupon the whole class burst into laughter. Only a warning from the teacher let this outburst of cheerfulness subside."Oh, today is really my lucky day. Not only do I get a certificate again today that proves what a zero I am, no, I also get a message home about repeated lateness."
The first tears were already gathering in Sho's eyes, but luckily, because he was sitting in the back, nobody noticed .......

(After school)

"Hello, anyone at home?" Sho called questioningly after opening the front door.
"Sho, my darling, come into the living room!" His mother replied cheerfully.
Sho wasn't surprised at her good mood. He could guess what had influenced his mother's mood so positively. After all, not all testimonials, like his, were a hopeless disaster, no, there was a member of this family who proved every year anew, especially on this day, what a genius it was: his big brother Ryo !!!!! !!!!!!!
"Sho, look at that! Ryo even got the best grades in your whole school this year !!Isn't that amazing !! "
The mother looked lovingly at her firstborn, who was sitting quietly and loftily next to her on the sofa.
"Well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?" Added the proud father. Ryo said nothing about these comments and just looked at his little brother with an expression that was difficult to interpret and the mother gave her youngest a pitying look. She was about to ask for Sho's testimony when she was suddenly interrupted by her husband:


"Just why, do you really want to go to this strange school. All doors are open to a boy with your countless talents and above all your intelligence. I just don't understand that !!!!
Ryo answered his father calmly and calmly. He stared at his father: "It's true that I can do a lot, but nothing makes me happier than dueling. I just see it as my goal in life to become the best duelist and I know I can do it.You yourself said that with my talents numerous doors would be open to me. Well, I've chosen the one that makes me happiest. "
During his speech, Ryo's hands were clutching his pants. Sho could literally feel his brother's inner tension. Dueling had to be incredibly important to him when the otherwise relaxed Ryo was fighting so desperately to be allowed to go to this school. Sho himself had never felt such a keen interest in anything, so he couldn't understand Ryo's tension either. But that didn't surprise Sho, he didn't understand his opaque brother most of the time anyway.
"Yes, but what if you fail. You have to be extraordinary at such activities to survive in a world like this ...
"Father", the usually polite Ryo interrupted him, "I am extraordinary. I have never failed so far and I do not plan to do it in the future either !!!!"Ryo's father finally gave in and finally agreed. Sighing, he got up and said he still had to do something.
"Oh, Sho, you're already there too. Hello!" His father shouted as he passed. Sho's mother sighed deeply and finally asked Sho for his testimony. His big brother also got up and stroked the smaller one apparently randomly on the head. Sho was close to tears again.
"Why am I always forgotten !!! Why does father only see Ryo !!!!!!!!!!!!"
After his mother handed the testimony to his mother, who looked at it without comment and then finally added it to his other testimonials, Sho ran up to his room and threw himself crying on the bed.
"Why can't you see me too !!!!!!!!! Why always only Ryo, always only him !!!!!!!!
Self-pity and envy gnawed at him when he finally remembered the malicious remarks of the girls, in particular one sentence bothered him: "Are you sure that the two are related?""Maybe the girl was right and I was really adopted. A nut like me and a genius like Ryo can't come from a family !!!!!!!!"

(Later in the evening)

Sho came out of his room very late. The television was on in the dark in the living room. Apparently a very loud movie was playing.
Sho grinned when he found his older brother sleeping on the sofa. The hair slightly rubbed, the cheeks reddened and the mouth slightly open. By and large, Ryo now looked more like the 12 year old child that he was than the hero the whole world considered him to be.
"With all talent, Ryo is only human. I'm sure his fans would be horrified if they saw their hero like that !!", Sho thought as he looked down lovingly at his big brother. He loved Ryo in spite of everything. For Sho, Ryo was not only his big brother, but also something of an invincible hero to look up to."Yugi Muto is setting a strong pace with this move !!!! Yes, yes our king of the games is really in top form tonight !!!!", it echoed from the television.
The crowd cheered and clapped. After Yugi's last move, this almost turned into a hurricane. The crowd went crazy.
Sho stared at the screen in fascination. So far he hadn't been interested in Duelmonsters. But now he was literally attached to an extremely slender young man who, despite his sometimes very narrow figure, embodied the perfect symbol of strength. There was an attraction to him that Sho could not describe. This really was a true hero: strong, confident, and utterly pure. Qualities that also applied to his brother.
It was, of course, the crowd shouting, no praising, Yugi's name that explained Sho's sudden interest in the game.
He who was always laughed at by everyone, he who was always overlooked, he who was nothing but Ryo Marufuji's little brother to the world, he could prove to the world through this game that he could also be a hero, that he was worthy of being called Sho, not Ryo's little brother.Finally a place in this world. ..

He wouldn't give up until he'd managed to be at least a little better than Ryo !!!!!!!
