Chapter 1

"Dinner is ready, Arthur!" Georgie called excitedly to her brother. Sitting at the table, Georgie played around with her fingers and could barely eat. "What's the matter, Georgie? Don't you like your own food?" Arthur asked ironically and laughed out loud. "You don't need to be afraid. Everyone likes what you cook. Don't be so excited. You are as impatient as always."
"I know, Arthur. But I'm just happy to finally see my father again." Georgie smiled "I also tried very hard and his room has already been made up .. And .. hmm .. I forgot something ? "
Georgie ran nervously from one room to the next. Arthur watched the excited girl and just couldn't help but laugh.
"She hasn't changed, the young lady," he thought to himself.

Now the time has come. Both set out on foot to the port, where the ship would soon call in Australia, where Georgie's father and Abel were.Georgie wanted to drive the car because it was faster, but Uncle Kevin drove up in her carriage because he still had some things to do at the port. So they decided that he would take their carriage, follow them on foot, and then pick up Earl Gerald immediately.

Arthur could see Georgie getting more and more excited and quickening her pace a little from meter to meter. While she was walking, she tugged at her self-sewn dress every 10 seconds to make sure everything was really okay. And even in a few intervals Arthur heard Georgie's worrying questions about her hair, whether everything was okay and whether she looked good, which he repeatedly confirmed.
But he was happy to do that, because he hadn't seen her so happy in a long time.
Although she always smiled and was always happy, he knew what she was feeling inside.
It was Lowell.
She thought of him often and Arthur knew that, and so did Abel.

But Abel, who has become a well-traveled seaman, suggested that Georgie's father be brought to Australia for a month. That made her happy. She hadn't seen him for almost 2 years after she came back to Australia from London.

Immediately upon arrival, she had visited her foster mother's grave to thank her. Thank you for your upbringing and for teaching her so much. Cooking, sewing and everything that was important to a woman.
Georgie really appreciated this. She was happy to use all of the skills she had learned from her.
She liked to cook, she liked to sew and together with Arthur she looked after the Budman farm very lovingly. She enjoyed being around the animals and walking in the beautiful Australian air.
And she still sometimes came home with freshly picked meadow flowers and placed them in vases that she made herself from whatever she could get her hands on.

Sometimes Arthur thought she was doing all this as a distraction, so as not to think about Lowell all the time.He didn't know why, but in a sense he was glad that Georgie Lowell hadn't married. But then he thought again how Georgie was and he hated that he thought that way. He was sorry to see her like this and he hoped Georgie would forget about him as soon as possible. But he saw from her that Lowell's memory was fading more. In time it wouldn't be that bad.

But since she read in the letter from Abel two months ago that her father was coming to visit her from London, she was thrilled and was very clumsy around the house. One mishap after the other happened, but Georgie had that radiant expression on her face that did not hide sorrow, but brought out her happiness.
This made Arthur once more forgive her misadventures. And finally he knew Georgie was so excited. He couldn't hold it against her.

"Arthur, you will be overtaken by every snail!Hurry up! "These words from a little further away and sound overwhelmed with anticipation tore him from his thoughts and he ran to catch up with Georgie.
Georgie stood behind and pushed him forward. She held his shoulders and said: "So now I won't let go of you and stay behind you so that you don't fall asleep!" Both laughed.

When they arrived at the port, many other people gathered in small groups. Uncle Kevin was already there and had parked the carriage a little further from the harbor. There were more and more people. Mostly women stood there with their children, waiting for their husbands to return from the sea. Or grandparents and elderly people who missed their grandchildren and children and stood expectantly at the port.

Georgie, too, stood in the crowd, full of excitement and expectation, staring at the open sea with bright, wide eyes. Now Athur was also a little nervous, after all his brother came home after a long time and the thought of seeing him again gave him great pleasure. After a short time, the ship could be seen in the distance as it slowly approached the harbor. The people were happy and the crowd was getting louder and narrower. The crowd grew stronger and the noise almost drowned out the hum of the anchored ship, which had now finally arrived.
Georgie, Arthur, and Uncle Kevin fight their way through the crowd to get further forward so they could watch the people step out of the ship, but it was quite difficult as it wasn't just the three of them who wanted to.
They stood there impatiently and tried to look over the crowd, to the bridge from which a swarm of people emerged.

When all the people have left the ship, the crowd in the harbor became less and the number of people decreased rapidly, except for a few who were still standing there looking for a visit or someone close.

Now they had a better view and were eagerly on the lookout for Georgie's father and Abel. But suddenly Georgie stopped dead and froze.
Arthur looked at her and noticed by her gaze that she was apparently seeing something that couldn't be her father. Because then her reaction would certainly have been different.
He looked where she was looking and then he knew what had silenced Georgie and put her in this state. Uncle Kevin guessed it too.
As expected, they spotted Georgie's father and Abel approaching them. But it wasn't just the two. No, there was a third person there who made Georgie's blood boil and freeze at the same time.
It was Lowell.
