It's Christmas when it feels like it

It's Christmas when it feels like it

With her shoulders hunched, her hands buried in the pockets of her jacket, she trudged through the snow. Behind her, her tracks ran through the centimeter-high snow.

The snow covered almost everything and threw a white cloak over the landscape. Even now, after it should stop so slowly, many the beautiful crystals from heaven.

Children romped around and made the most of the winter. They threw snowballs at each other, and it was not uncommon to see snowmen made by children standing by the wayside and in gardens.
She, too, had built a snowman together with her little sister. But now he was standing abandoned in a corner of her huge garden. Her father would get upset again why something so ugly was defacing his garden. Then he would let it be broken. And nobody, neither she nor her sister, would say anything. They would stand by in silence and just watch. As always.

Without haste, Hinata walked towards the building that appeared in front of her. It was her school that she always went to on Christmas Eve. Her parents stopped celebrating Christmas at some point. They thought it was unnecessary when they had everything and were often not there anyway.
Today, however, her parents were there. In a bad mood, her father, Hiashi Hyuga, locked himself in his room as soon as he arrived and didn't want to be disturbed.
Since he always took out his bad mood on her and then finished her off about how useless she was, Hinata had fled in the afternoon.

She sat down in a cafe and drank some hot cocoa. Then she went to school.
And now she was here. It was getting dark and it was freezing cold. The bare trees were covered with white splendor and Hinata simply sat down on the steps to the entrance to soak up the pleasant silence.Suddenly she heard a clatter. Startled, she turned her head in the direction from which the sound had come. A boy appeared, pushing a bicycle beside him. When he saw her, he was visibly surprised to meet someone else here on such a day.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" He asked and stopped in front of her. Hinata became unsure. She didn't know what to say and started to stutter: "M ... My family ... is not celebrating Christmas ..." She observed his reaction visibly uncomfortable.

"Really now?" The blond with the azure eyes looked at her in disbelief. "But that's really unusual."

"Uh ..."

"But it doesn't matter. I don't celebrate Christmas either. My name is Naruto Uzumaki, by the way." He sat down next to her with a swing.

"Hinata Hyuga. W ... Why aren't you partying?" Hinata looked at him shyly.

“Because my parents are dead and I have no siblings.” Startled, Hinata jumped up and bowed."E ... I'm so sorry. V ... Excuse me, if my question was ... insolent.", She stammered concerned and blushed.

It took Naruto a moment to understand what was going on and then laughed out loud. "It's okay. It really doesn't matter if you ask something like that. You couldn't have known that."
Naruto looked up at the sky, which was now completely dark and only lit by the crescent moon and the stars. Lanterns lit the street that passed away from them.
The snow glittered and together with the darkness it was all given something mysterious.

Naruto grabbed Hinata's arm gently and pulled her back onto the steps next to him. Then suddenly something a lot to him. "Do you want something to drink, something warm?"
Hinata saw how cold she was and nodded.

"Well, I'm hollowing something."

Naruto ran quickly to the right, and was soon gone. A short time later, however, he came back with two steaming mugs."Thanks." Hinata carefully took one of the mugs.

The two sipped the soothing drink quietly.

"Thank you very much.", Hinata said when she was finished and got up. She made a small bow towards Naruto. Then she smiled. "That was a very nice Christmas Eve. But now I have to go back. It's already very late."

Naruto also got up and kissed Hinata on the cheek. "Maybe we'll see each other again.", He grinned and then walked away. What remained was a stunned but happy Hinata, who then made her way home, humming softly to herself.
