~ Thursday July 9, 2009.
The sun hit the island mercilessly. The air was still buzzing in the heat. It was horrific and yet beautiful. Cesca trudged slowly along the unpaved sandy path next to Cloud. The two were on their way to the small white beach where Juka Tool had moored her small motorboat.
"Hm ... it's pretty hot today, isn't it?" Cesca looked up briefly at the sky, the blue cloudless ceiling stretched over seemingly endless expanses, so that the sun could shine unhindered on both of them.
"Yes, but once we're on the boat we can cool off in the water. That'll be great!" Cloud grinned broadly.
"Yeah, that's gonna be great ... but it's so hot!" Cesca groaned, her shoulders sagging and kicking a small pebble out of the way.
"Oh, it's always so hot here. Where do we actually meet the others?"
“On the beach, isn't it?” Cloud shrugged and smiled quietly to himself. They would meet somewhere.
“Maybe not?” Cesca gave Cloud a panicked look.
“I don't know, I think so.” Cloud shrugged again and smiled. She swung the dark brown wicker basket back and forth. She had spent the whole morning preparing rolls and other snacks for her friends. The beach was gradually coming into view, the girls in a hurry.

"I'm sure I'll be there before you ..." Cloud smiled and quickened her pace.
“That's damn unfair! I can't run in flip flops!” Cesca stumbled after her, moaning, Cloud just laughed and ran through the light, fine sand.“Wait for me!” Cesca stopped briefly to pull her flip flops off her feet, only to run through the sand behind Cloud like a small child. Juka, Dean and Finn were already waiting on the beach. Juka stood up to her knees in the water, just so that her shorts couldn't get wet, and watched the small fish swimming past her legs. Dean sat in the sand and had absent-mindedly directed into an indefinable distance. He was dreaming again. Finn lay next to him, hands clasped under his head, eyes closed.
"Ha! I was first ...!" Cloud stopped and took a short breath, the heat bothered her a little. Cesca stopped next to her and fell into the sand.

"Oh God. It's way too hot to run!" Juka slowly turned to the two girls and gave them a short wave.
"There you are finally. Now only Mia is missing ..." Cloud nodded eagerly.
"She always comes too late!" she laughed.
“That's right again.” Juka sighed and waded through the turquoise water towards the beach.
“Wake up, caffeine junkie!” The black-haired one poked Finn in the side with her foot.
"Stop it ..." he groaned softly and knocked her foot away with his hand.
"Come on, get up!" she didn't give in and nudged his ribs again.
"You should stop." he grabbed her ankle and pulled her foot away, she staggered but could still hold on to the other foot.
"Hey! Get on you idiot!" she tried to free herself from his grip.
"God! Just leave me alone!" he let go of her and opened his eyes.
“Finally!” Juka rolled her eyes and Cloud started laughing.
"Stupid cow." he muttered and slowly got up. Juka just laughed and went back to the water.
"You have to help me with the boat for a moment."
"Who you?"
"You and Dean." Finn sighed briefly and patted Dean on the head with his fist.
"Hey ..." the blue-haired one startled."Come along."
“What's going on?” Dean got up and followed Finn to the water.
"... we should help Juka." Finn slipped his shoes off his feet and followed Juka into the lukewarm water, followed by Dean.
“What should we do?” Dean just climbed the small stairs to the boat.

Alex sighed and left his guard post. Not too much happens during the day on the desolate island, but they still had to be on their guard, expect everything. These beasts were actually a lot smarter than you thought. You were able to learn anything serious! as if they were people. Alex climb down the rungs of the rotten ladder. They had planned to replace the ladder at some point, but somehow it never got around to it. He skipped the last rungs and jumped onto the dusty earth with one jump. Neo was already waiting behind him.
"Hi." Alex raised a hand in greeting and Neo nodded to him.
"Anything conspicuous?"
"Nope ... was totally calm. And with you?"
"Blair cooked again."
"Oh..."
"Yes. Anyway, see you later." Neo nodded again briefly and climbed the ladder. Alex stopped for a moment and looked at him, Neo had been strangely nice today, that confused him a bit.

"See you then ..." He turned around and ran down the dirt road. It was a hot day like they hadn't had in a long time. It was hot and dry. Horrible. The small group has set up camp in an abandoned department store. The building had a number of advantages. Supplies that would probably last a few more months, clothes, beds and books until you drop. Then there were the three floors. On the second floor they had set up a kind of central headquarters, from where they could see almost the whole island. They had cameras all over the island, at the port, in the residential areas, even in individual houses. In the small headquarters there were monitors showing what was happening. It had been very beneficial that after the announcement of the evacuation, panic did not prevail for long. Most of the islanders were already insane by then, or had already mutated. This is how the massive stocks came about. If the panic had lasted longer, the four would have starved to death or even eaten long ago. Alex sighed softly. He was just crossing a narrow paved road, it was completely empty. A few grains of sand flew around in the dry air. The gentle wind made the deserted street even more desolate.

He quickly averted his eyes and hurried across the street, he had to hurry. He didn't expect to be seen by any of the infected, but he couldn't be sure. When he reached the other side of the street, he stopped abruptly. A faint crack worried him. His fingers reflexively cupped the handle of his pistol. He wouldn't be able to do much with this ancient model in an emergency, but he felt safer with a gun at his side. His breath was quick and shallow. He waited a moment, but nothing happened.

"Oh God ... I'm getting paranoid." Alex wiped his sweaty forehead and wiped grains of sand from his eyes. He was almost at the small group's camp and quickened his pace. When the big building came into view, he started running. After a few hundred meters he was standing in front of the glass sliding door. They had secured the doors of the shopping center with stainless steel chains and built a barricade made of various pieces of furniture behind them. Until now they didn't know if the stainless steel chains and the furniture barricade would bring anything, but it was as good as the only thing she could use to secure the doors. The building's old security system, a laser system, had been demoted to scrap a few months ago."Hey, it's me. Open up!" Alex pounded his fist on the glass front. Footsteps sounded inside the lobby and after a few seconds Blair made his way through the barricade. Alex waved to her with a smile, but Blair grimaced angrily. It looked like she was berating the furniture. She quickly unlocked the big lock that was hanging on the chains and let Alex in.

"That damn furniture ... I keep tripping over a chair leg!" Blair cursed softly as she locked the keys from her hand a lot.
“And did something happen?” Blair turned to Alex, who had been waiting patiently for her.
“No, I was totally calm.” He shrugged and pushed his way through the makeshift barrier. Blair followed in silence, she thought.
“Was something going on with you?” Alex turned around briefly and helped Blair over one of the pieces of furniture. Some of them had turned out to be insidious death traps, causing one or two sprains.
"Thank you ... it was pretty quiet with us, except for one small incident."
"Which would be?"
"An infected person appeared near the apartment block. He was completely alone ..."
"How? He just crawled out of his hole and ran around in the front gardens of the single-family houses ?! All alone?" Alex frowned.
"To put it that way ... I don't know what that means either. Maybe they kicked him out of one of the packs. We have no idea!" Blair sighed in resignation. They had spent at least an hour discussing this infected person and yet had come to no conclusion.
"This is really strange ..." They were just walking up the disused escalator to the second floor.
"You can say that out loud. But we'll talk about that again later when Neo comes back."
“All right.” The two of them walked past various small shops. They had been able to remove most of the security bars; the bars only hid the goods in a few individual shops. They had set up their headquarters in the security room of the shopping center. Skye was already waiting for the two of them. He sat in a black office chair in front of the monitors and followed silently what was happening on the island. He looked up briefly when Alex greeted him and nodded silently to him. Blair stood behind Skye and looked at the individual monitors.
"Was something?"
"No, everything was quiet again."
"Hm ... Alex, are you hungry?" Blair turned his head to Alex.
"Uh ... no, thanks." He knew how great Blair's talent for cooking was and Neo had already warned him.
"Well then." Blair shrugged and focused on the monitors again.

The small motorboat swayed slightly in the turquoise water. Dean sat on the railing and let his feet dangle in the sea. The water was pleasantly cool. A few meters away from him, Mia,
