The island of the curse

2nd chapter

"Zoé, Zoé come on my love, you wanted to go to the beach before we had breakfast." Zoé blinked tiredly into the sun that was shining through the window on her right. "Yes, thank you Dad", Zoé muttered and straightened up. She always slept so well with her father. A little later she was standing on the beach, fully dressed, the sea water tickling her bare feet, it was pleasantly warm. But something had changed, because a small fishing boat with two oars was floating in the water. It was attached to a wooden peg, as the waves were usually very strong, so it was not enough to simply pull the boat onto the land, as the risk was too great that it would be washed away. Zoé ran back to the house and shouted “Father, Father does the boat on the beach belong to you?” Her dad smiled and said, “Yes, I wanted to give it to you as a welcome present.” The three of them around their father's neck, a wonderful sight. "Can we row him to the island we've always wanted to go to?" Linn asked. Jean-Pierre raised an eyebrow and said “of course, but don't rush it, now let's have breakfast first in peace and then we'll look further.” But the children didn't eat much because they wanted to leave immediately. So they packed up provisions and went down to the beach armed with cameras. It wasn't far to the island if you had a rowboat, so they'd docked on the island within 15 minutes. "Come on, let's spread our picnic blanket here and have breakfast, after the strenuous rowing I got really hungry." Suggested Zoé and the other two immediately agreed. When they were all fed up, they packed up the leftovers and set off to explore the island. The island wasn't particularly big - at least they thought at first - it consisted of a lot of forest, so it wasn't very clear.
There were many birds circling over the island, most of which had rarely or never been seen. The girls didn't notice that because they weren't particularly interested in birds. They were so busy with it that they didn't even notice that the day was drawing to a close. But when Zoé noticed that the sun was going down, she had lost sight of Lynn and Lyra. She pulled out her cell phone to call them, but to her horror she had no reception on the island. So she went looking for the twins, but she had to hurry, because when the sun went down, she wouldn’t find the way back to the boat. So Zoé ran screaming through the forest, across the meadows, through the streams. “Linn, Lyra where are you?” But thoughts of spending the night alone on the island. But a reproachful voice in her head - she couldn't remember what she said later - made her run on and on and on and on. Over time, she began to reproach herself: "Zoé, what kind of an older sister are you, pulling your two smaller siblings into such a disaster!" When she paused in a clearing, gasping for air, she heard something rustle next to her . She held her breath and watched the thicket intently. Something was crouching behind the bushes, but she couldn't tell whether it was human or animal. Zoé thinks "whether I should run away? If it is a wild animal, however, it can catch up with me quickly." So she stopped and waited, what she did not know exactly. It felt like an eternity before something moved. It straightened up and stepped into the moonlight. At last Zoé could see what it was. The Something was a boy her age with messy brown hair of which a few strands in his eyes were many that were blue-green. The moon was reflected in his eyes, and its glow gave off a strange glint in his skin. He was very tall, taller than Zoé. He wore black clothes that reminded her of the ranger from "The Lord of the Rings".Arrows peeked out from behind his back, and he held the bow in his right hand ready to shoot. Zoé breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that it was a human and not a hungry animal, which she would like to eat for communion. The boy put his finger to his mouth and motioned for her to follow him. Without thinking too much, Zoé followed the handsome boy. After a while he crouched behind a rose hip bush, she did the same. From here you could hear the sound of the sea. As she sat next to him he said to her "if you run out of the forest you will find your two sisters, they are sitting on a bench. From there you can easily find the way to your boat, I will take care of it. Leave the boat drive yourself, it will find its way, trust it. "Zoé opened her mouth to ask something, but the boy was faster and put his index finger on her mouth. “Please don't ask me any questions and go, we'll see each other again, I know.” At these words, Zoé straightened up and said “thank you”, “nothing to thank and now go,” warned the boy. Too late it occurred to Zoé that she hadn't asked him his name, but when she turned to ask he had already disappeared into the forest. When the bench the stranger was talking about appeared in her field of vision, she saw the twins, crouched together, their heads buried in their hands. When Linn and Lyra heard her footsteps, they lifted their heads, their eyes were tearful, but they lit up as soon as they recognized Zoé. The sisters ran up to each other and embraced. After a while they broke away from the embrace, it was now eleven o'clock. Zoé said “we have to go back to our boat, it's near here.” She decided to pretend to steer the boat, so she didn't mention that the boat would find its way by itself, because she wanted the twins don't scare you. With this decision, they set off for the beach. Once there, the two smaller ones sat in the boat and Zoé pushed it, then jumped in and took the oars in her hands. Fortunately it was already so dark, so the twins did not notice that Zoé was not rowing at all, but that the boat drove and steered by itself. When they got near the beach, they saw people with flashlights shouting their names. Immediately they put their heads together to discuss what to do next. Linn suggested "we have to make up a believable story," but before they could figure out a possible explanation, someone spotted it. They couldn't see who, because they were blinded by a flashlight and the three of them didn't have time to think about an excuse, because everyone was chatting wildly. But when they docked, she just took her dad in his arms and said very calmly, "I was so scared for you, it's so nice that you came back healthy." He didn't ask them any questions and they were happy about it . After they got home, they flopped into bed with their clothes on and fell into a deep sleep. They were too tired to change
