Butterfly (MMFF)

Flüsterer

The crow man

After such a long wait, I will close this chapter with these words. I want to thank everyone who knows me and the reason why I am starting to write again from the bottom of my heart. I will not be back in a moment, as you know me, the path we had to take was too long and exhausting, but it is done ... Thank you for everything, I know for your sympathy, it is all right now my friends ...

Melina unloaded the boxes from the cart. “Don't you want to get off too?” She looked at Ina, who was crouching on the driver's seat with knees drawn up and staring straight ahead. She didn't turn her head, just shook it stoically. "Look" began Melina and heaved down a box. "It's not an easy time. If something scares you, you have to tell me, okay?" Melina put the box on the floor and stepped next to the driver's seat. "So what scares you, darling?" Her sister smiled up at her sweetly, but Ina didn't look at her, she just raised her hand and pointed in one direction, immediately pulled her arm back on and hid her face as best she could behind her arms. Melina sighed and looked around, but there was only a fat crow sitting on the roof with its black button eyes looking curiously at the siblings. "Come on" Melina said forgivingly and grabbed Ina's hand, which stiffened and did not allow Melina to pull her from the driver's seat. "I said you should come" Ina looked at the crow, which was rising into the air, only when it had disappeared from her field of vision did she let go and allow her sister to fetch her from the cart.

Melina wiped her floury hands on her apron. "Maybe we should take it easy for the next few days," she sighed and looked through the window into the darkened courtyard. Ina sat huddled on one of the chairs and chewed her lips, which she only did when something worried her.Melina looked at her little sister. In the pale light of one oil lamp, her hair looked gray and she was even paler. "I mean a little break wouldn't hurt both of us, and we can also spend a little time walking again and finally catch our breath" continued Melina, without hoping that her sister would follow her words. "We won't be able to make the rent either way, you know" She looked around at Ina, who she didn't even look at. "But you're right," said Melina, more carefree than she felt. "Together we can do it," she added bitterly. She looked at the bread that she was kneading and wished she was far away from this dreary place.
Ina winced when there was a knock on the door. Melina looked around at her sister, who was staring at the door with big, frightened eyes. "It's okay," she reassured the little one and wiped her floury hands on her apron. It was probably just one of Obig's henchmen whom he once again sent over to pay the rent, he wanted to put her under pressure by all means. "I'll be right there" shouted Melina and smiled encouragingly at her sister. She opened the door and looked at the dark-haired young man who stood in front of her. "I'll bring the lease over tomorrow, I was able to explain that to the Lord myself today," said Melina, as impolite as she could. The man remained silent and examined Melina carefully, which she found uncomfortable. "You shouldn't open up to anyone so easily"
It sounded like a well-meant reprimand that made Melina angry rather than cautious. “What do you want?” She asked dismissively, because he was apparently not one of Obig's servants. "I'm looking for a place to camp for the night and something to eat, I'm on the move" Melina eyed the shabby appearance of the tall man. At first she wanted to turn him away, but something about this man told her that he didn't want any harm from them and when her mother was still alive, hospitality was given to every hiker in her house."We don't have much ourselves," Melina said coolly. She pointed to the barn. "But the barn is sheltered from the wind" The young man looked at the barn and nodded. He turned away, but looked at Melina again, only to say goodbye with a simple thank you.
Melina balanced the thin soup and the old blanket, which had already been mended a hundred times, in the barn. Your guest was sitting on the floor with his legs crossed. Melina placed the bowl on the floor with a little space and put the blanket next to it. "Thank you" Melina nodded slightly and decided to leave the little oil lamp dangling from her arm here as well. She stepped back when the stranger grabbed the bowl and began to spoon greedily. "It's very good," he said between bites and looked up. Melina wasn't sure what to think of the man. "Thank you" she replied hesitantly. “But I can only offer you our hospitality for one night.” He looked up at her and his alert eyes made Melina feel uncomfortable. His gaze went past her to the barn door. "You'd better go in," he said calmly. Melina turned around, Ina carefully peeked inside. Her eyes looked scared. "Honey" said Melina worried and approached Ina, who immediately snuggled up to her. "Don't worry," she said and stroked the white hair. "Just a wanderer who was hungry" She smiled and looked at the stranger who was silently spooning his soup again. "A blessed night" said Melina and pushed Ina out of the barn in front of her. Ina clung to Melina's hand tightly. "He's coming soon," she chirped. "It's okay," Melina sighed and closed the door to the house behind them, putting the bolt on as a precaution, even if she didn't think the stranger was dangerous, the world was bad. She looked at her sister. “Do you want to sleep with me tonight?” Ina nodded stormily and Melina had to laugh. In the past, the father did not allow them to sleep together in the same bed.But Melina snuck up to her little sister often enough so that she could sleep.

Melina lay awake for a long time, she could tell from Ina's tense breaths that her sister couldn't find any rest either. “Can't you sleep?” She asked reassuringly and Ina snuggled up against her sister. "The butterfly asked me for help, but I don't like."
Melina sighed and stroked her sister's hair. "If you are asked for help, you should help too"
"But it's dangerous," added Ina seriously. "Then you have to say no," Melina admitted tiredly. All she wanted to do was sleep, but her little sister's worries were hers, too, as insignificant as her dreams might seem. "If he comes tonight and we have to die, do you think the butterfly will find someone else" Melina sighed in agony. "It's enough now, get some sleep," she said mildly. "Nobody will come and we are far from dying" Melina closed her eyes and heard her little sister exhale heavily, but remained silent. Indeed, she was overwhelmed by sleep.

She woke up, the moon shone in through the window, it was humid and hot, it hadn't rained in weeks and the temperatures were unusually high for this time of the year. Drunk with sleep, Melina grabbed Ina's side and sat jerkily in bed, because the side was empty. Even if she couldn't explain it, panic grabbed her. She jumped out of bed, wearing a linen shirt and no shoes, and tore the door open. Ina was sitting in the middle of the courtyard, on her fingertip a big night owl who was muttering softly. "He's coming" said Ina and looked around at Melina. "I wanted to be alone with him, why did you get up?" She asked unusually darkly and looked the night owl in the eye. Melina's stiffness loosened, she went over to her sister and pulled her to her feet. "Leave the nonsense" she said shrilly, the butterfly turned a circle around the siblings before disappearing into the night."He's gone" Ina said sadly and looked around, her eyes widened. Melina followed her sister's frightened gaze and flinched when a shadow stood on the other side of the courtyard. Tense, she calmed down that it must be her guest who was on the way to the exit. "Come on, let's go in" Melina said still suspiciously and pushed Ina in front of her, she felt the stranger's gaze resting on her. Suddenly he started moving, he was incredibly nimble and unexpectedly in the next moment he was between them and the house entrance. In the pale light she saw that it was a different man, shorter and with strange features. "Get out of here" she snapped at the man, Melina felt the dull feeling of fear in her stomach. "Flew far, pulled up, stumbled, fell, landed, no one walks forever in heaven," the man began with a cackle.
Melina instinctively pushed her sister behind her. "What are you doing here. We have nothing, get out of here." The thought of Abig sending the guy crossed her mind. "Tell your master he can't scare us," the man replied with a strange hoarse laugh.

He took a step towards the nurses, Melina involuntarily backed away, Ina tight on the hand, she felt her sister trembling. "Up, up, I want to go up, without wings I gave up" said the man darkly and Melina was sure that it had to be a madman. "I'll scream" she began shrilly. "My husband is in the house, he will be out soon" The man cackled. "You're lying" Spit he and Melina let out a high-pitched scream as something scraped close to her cheek and left a burning trail. Startled, she grabbed her bleeding cheek. A crow landed on the man's shoulder and croaked loudly, the man joined in. Melina's feet went soft, but she had to stay strong, she and Ina carefully pushed back into the courtyard, away from the house and this madman. But suddenly she bumped into something, she turned around in fright, behind her was the wanderer who was definitely pushing her to one side so that he was facing the crow man. "I think you should maybe go better," he said soberly and stepped forward. "Sam, what a nice surprise" said the crowman and blew the air out of his lungs with a whistle. "Then I'll pluck you before I make the pigeons happy," croaked the crowman. The crow rose screeching and Melina gripped Ina's hand even tighter. "Run" said the wanderer darkly and Melina looked from him to the crowman, but when the darkness was filled with the screeching of innumerable birds, her
