Fanfic: Whispering In Your Heart

Chapter: Every beginning is difficult

Preface
It was really unbelievable, I just saw this city with different eyes. She was wonderful, I could barely grasp these new things myself, but I saw her with my new, better eyes that saw every little detail. I was finally happy to be me.
All of this reminded me of what was close to my heart and I started to cry because sometimes I feel like I'm alone in the world. I looked at the others and smiled.
I am happy, I know that now.
"Thank you, thank you very much for letting me get to know you," I said happily and turned around my own axis once.
Never in my life could I have wished for anything better, not even in my most beautiful dreams.

I went to the plane dejected. My father couldn't come because he had a new assignment and stayed home to pack his bags. Unfortunately I couldn't go with them because I still had to go to school. My little sister went to a friend and was allowed to stay there for a few weeks. Sarah, my stepmother took me to the airport.

"I hope you will settle in quickly," she said to me.
"Yes, I hope so too." I answered sadly.

I went to the plane and kissed Sarah on the cheek, smiled at her again and walked on.
When I was on the plane, I took out my MP3 player and listened to music. I heard really loud because I wanted to forget everything around me. Then I leaned back to rest a little before I got there.

I was half asleep when someone tapped me and asked if I wanted something to drink. I then shook my head, thanked them, and leaned back again. Hours passed, but I couldn't sleep anymore, so I brought a book with me to distract myself, because the music didn't help anymore.

When we were almost there, there was an announcement saying that we would soon land and asked everyone to buckle up. I did and shortly afterwards we landed. I waited for my luggage and after half an eternity - at least that's how it felt to me - went out to wait for Eddy.

Eddy is a friend of my father’s and owned a mall and a large lot with a no house on it.
It was already dark when I saw two headlights coming towards me. I realized it was his car and waved to him. A tall, fair-haired man in his forties got out.
"Hi, how are you?" He asked.
I smiled and said: "It's okay, I can still speak German, I haven't forgotten that!"
"Oh, luckily, otherwise I would have to carry a dictionary with me!", He replied, relieved.
"Get in, I'll drive you to your new home.", He said, lifted my three huge suitcases into the trunk and closed the door.

I got in the back and we drove off. The drive was almost an hour, but we didn't say much. When we got to his old house, which I was supposed to live in now, I got out, pulled out a suitcase, and took the other two that Eddy was putting in front of me.

"Should I help you?"
"No, no, I'll manage it somehow."
"Good, if you want something give me a call."
"Thank you, Eddy. Bye, I hope to see you soon." I said quickly and pulled the huge suitcase towards the house.

"Oh yes, you are not alone.", He yelled after me.
I frowned, shrugged, turned and walked on.

When I arrived I rang the doorbell. Then a big boy opened up to me. First he looked at me, then my suitcase. He opened his mouth to say something, but closed his mouth again without uttering a word.
"Hi, I'm Kate and I live here now."
"Uh, I'm Mike."
He turned around in the door and called into the house: "Hey, our new roommate is here, come down!"
Another boy came down and also looked at me puzzled.
"Tell me, are you kidding Mike? What's that supposed to mean? She's supposed to live here with us now?"
"I can be kidding myself," and another came down the stairs.
"Well, it's not the way it should be, is it?"

I didn't pay any attention to her because I was looking at the house. It was easy . . . well, it was like looking back at my past. When my family visited Eddy, I was always allowed to play here and in the house. Most of the time I did this alone. I smiled, walked past the three arguing guys with a suitcase and tried to drag the heavy thing up.

At the seventh step I gave up and sat down on the stairs to rest. I still heard the others arguing and had to smile. They argued about who was right and who was not. Then I got up again and continued to hoist this fat thing up to the first floor.

At some point I finally made it and was about to bring the suitcase into the living room. Suddenly I ran into something and lost my footing, but someone quickly took my suitcase away from me. I fell to the ground and hit my head. A blinding pain penetrated my entire body.

"Ouch," I said, sat down and rubbed the back of my head.
I looked up at my "savior" who had saved me from being crushed safely.
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean, hey? Why are you here?"
I was a little surprised at this tone of voice. So the first impression of him is not so welcome to me.

"Thank you very much for taking my suitcase! Because of you I now have a huge bump!" I said jokingly and tried to put him a little mild. It usually worked, but that guy didn't have that much sense of humor. I tried a smile that would have driven most boys in my old school crazy, but he just stared into my eyes.

"Now tell me why are you here?"he asked a little annoyed.
"I ... my father sent me here. I'm living here for no idea how long."
"Aha and then why did he say your name is Chucki?"
"My name is too, I'm Kate Chucki, nice to meet you."
I got up and held out my hand to him. He just looked straight into my eyes and gave me an ice-cold look.
I didn't like that guy. I had just decided that. He was too weird for me, he probably didn't like girls, or he got up on the wrong foot. Who knew?

I tried again with a tentative smile, but that passed quickly because he just scowled at me and said nothing.
"Can I finally get in?" I asked a little sheepishly.
"No, you mustn't."

He pushed the suitcase into my arms and I set it down quickly so that it wouldn't fall off. That part was really heavy. I looked into his eyes again and got confirmation of what I had said. He was serious, he didn't want me here.

I gave up and dragged the suitcase back down, put it in front of the door with the others and sat between them.
The others had long gone upstairs because one of them yelled at them: "Damn it! Get your asses up here, get it ?!"
The one who had introduced himself as Mike leaned against the door frame and looked at me.
"What are you up to? Jake is really in a bad mood."
I lifted my head to look him in the face and just shrugged.

"Shit, Mike!" The weird guy yelled again. Mike looked up at the stairs, looked at me one more time, and grinned at me.
"On good luck.", He says with a laugh and then disappeared with a wave.

It was getting dark. I was really tired from the trip and soon fell asleep. The night was really cold, so I woke up in the middle of the night with chattering teeth. I got a jacket and put it on myself. I could not sleep anymore. Then my thoughts began to circle.
I definitely didn't like that guy. But this Mike was really nice. I hoped I didn't have to hang around here forever. Tomorrow I'll call Eddy and ask if I could live anywhere else.
Sometime between remembering my parents and the thought of just flying home, I fell asleep.

Someone shook my shoulder firmly and I opened my eyes in panic.
"What ?!" I shouted almost hysterically and looked around in shock.
A pretty grinning thing sat next to me. Mike. He was crouched down next to me and was making fun of me for overreacting. I looked briefly into his eyes and slumped back against the wall, exhausted. I had barely slept and felt a little light-headed from sleep. I was also very hungry.

"I'm hungry."I mumbled half asleep.
"Hmm, there are only a few rolls."
"I don't care what."
Then I looked him in the eye again. he had really nice eyes. they were a mix of green and brown. I gave him a smile and he got up, held out his hand and pulled me to my feet.
Only now did I realize that I had a hell of a headache. I rubbed my eyes and yawned profusely.

"You're a lot nicer than that other guy from above," I slurred tiredly.
"I hear it often."
Another mischievous grin on his face.

We went up, well, I struggled to drag myself up. My body was still set to sleep. I had severe tension in my neck, I rubbed it gently on my legs. Upstairs we went to the kitchen.
When I stepped through the door, 2 pairs of eyes looked at me. Everyone was already sitting there. Only this Jake was missing. They looked me up and down. I was a little uncomfortable so I looked around for Mike and found him by the fridge. Slowly I turned my head back to the others and stammered, "Um, hello. I'm Kate. But everyone calls me Katie."
I tried again with that irresistible smile that I inherited from my aunt.
At least this time it worked. They smiled back and one of them pushed a chair over to me.

We ate rolls. Then Mike introduced everyone to me: "Well, the one sitting on your left is Shane, the one on your right is Nick. Hopefully you already know me," he added with a grin. I gave everyone a smile and looked back at Mike. Wordlessly I bit into my bun and didn't dare look up again. You could only hear the biting into breakfast, sometimes a back and forth and a chair shift here and there.

An uncomfortable silence fell over us. It was getting really embarrassing, but before it escalated, we heard soft footsteps on the stairs.
Oh no. It must have been that guy from yesterday who didn't like me. At least I think he doesn't like me, but it wasn't surprising the way he snapped at me yesterday. He appeared in the doorway, and I turned in my chair and looked at him. He went around and shook hands with the others - male, that was clear - and then he came to me. he looked at me.
"Didn't you listen to me yesterday or do you have hearing problems?" He said in a calm tone, as if he were serious about the hearing
