Tears of a Dragon

Painful Past ...

The black veil of night had fallen over the land and made the golden sands of the desert shine. The light of the moon was bright and clear and was reflected in the calm waters of the Nile. Not far away, however, black shadows drew soundless across the floor and covered everything in darkness. Blazing flames rose and put an end to the quiet night. Desperate cries and cries for help echoed through the darkness. Confusion and the will to survive created chaos in the small village of Chérma, which went up in flames. The people grabbed their belongings and fled. A little boy was sitting behind a fallen roof and holding his little sister protectively in his arms. He didn't want her to notice this chaos, but he didn't know what to protect his sister from either.
When he thought he was taking the right opportunity, he pulled it out from behind the roof and ran as fast as he could to the large sand dunes on the edge of the village. The little girl's eyes wandered over the still burning rubble field that she once called home. Lifeless bodies lay on the street, peacefully as if they were sleeping. "What about the people, what is happening here ...?" panted the little girl, frightened. "Not now, Sharina, we have to get out of here!" called her brother, struggling for air. Only a few meters to the sand hills, which should give them protection until everything is over. But dark, hooded figures on black horses emerged from nowhere and blocked your way. The boy stood protectively in front of his sister who shrank back in shock.
"Sharina ... if I tell you you run off as fast as you can, hide by the dunes and wait until I get you, did you understand that ..?!" he whispered softly to her. But Sharina's eyes were directed as if under a spell on these figures. "Sharina, did you understand ... I'll distract these guys, you have to get to safety!" he repeated in a shaky voice and pushed her aside. Sharina turned around screaming, her brother ran into a small side street without looking at her again, followed closely by the dark figures.
Sharina ran, her brother would come again, of that she was sure, past the ruins of the burned down huts and the lifeless bodies on the ground, she ran to the sand dunes. She didn't want to turn around, fear spread through her, fear of seeing what could go on behind her back, fear of losing her brother and fear of losing her brother. Tears ran down her cheek, tears of desperation. She climbed the sand dunes with difficulty, but a hot breeze made her pause. With sheer horror in her eyes she turned around, a glaring light broke through the shadow wall, huge flames rose up, a shattering scream made Sharina flinch ....
Bathed in sweat, the young woman startled. With a heavy breath, she reached for the old sheet next to her. Her deep blue eyes looked around the room, everything seemed to be fine. The moon shone in and illuminated the room with a slightly shimmering light. Slowly she lay down again, stroking her hand over her forehead, she lay down again and tried to control her breathing. The same dream she thought to herself. Like almost every night, she was startled out of this nightmare that robbed her of sleep. But the worst thing for her was that this dream was bitter reality. Restlessly she turned back and forth and listened as the wind howled softly, while lost in thought she closed her eyes and without meaning to plunged back into this dream.

Sharina had been able to escape to the other side of the dunes in time when the flames broke over her. She threw her hands over her head, drew her knees and tried to calm herself down, when a few minutes later the glaring light went out and the desert again shrouded in darkness, she heard the galloping of horses that were moving away.
She still remained in this position, more minutes passed, the moon was already at its highest point when she understood what had actually happened there, she did not dare to turn around, her brother would come, she held on to it, her parents lost them in the flames, but their brother would not abandon them. The moon moved on and the horizon turned a warm red tone. Sharina closed her eyes, she sat there vigilantly all night and did not move from the spot, but she realized when her brother didn’t get her that he wouldn’t come anymore. For the first time she got up, her gaze directed at the rising sun that made her blue eyes sparkle. She knew that she should actually cry. She had lost everything that was important to her and that in one night, but she had no idea what was in store for her ...
