Wolf Night
Das ist das Tier in mir
Strangers in the city
"Ran, can you come please?!?" shouted my mother up the stairs. "Yes" annoyed I made my way to the kitchen. "What is it?" "I want you to go to the supermarket quickly and buy some bread." said my mother and shoved some money into my hand. "Why can't Isamu do that?" I asked. "Because your brother has to study. He's graduating this year and you know how important that is." Grumbling, I went from the kitchen to Isamus' room. This sat at his desk and scribbled something on his pad. "Hello Isamu. What are you doing." "Don't get nervous." he replied in his deep voice. "I just wanted to be nice and talk to you a little bit." I looked at him offended. Normally we always got along well. But since he only studied all day we hardly talked to each other. Sometimes we didn't see each other for 4 or 5 days because Isamu went to his room right after school and studied. He didn't even come out for dinner. He was the exact opposite of me. I was lazy to learn and had no plans for the future. I was also a family person and needed people around me. Quite the opposite of you Isamu. He hated it when a lot of people were with us. He was only happy when mom, dad and I were at home and he didn't have so much stress with other people. He didn't like going to parties or anywhere, either, but he wasn't an outsider. Like me, he was very popular in school. Especially with the girls, because he was fucking great. He had blond hair, long to the ear, and beautiful blue eyes. In addition, a well-trained body. Our looks weren't that different either. I also had blonde hair, but green cat eyes. I was thin and some believed I had anorexia, but it wasn't.
"I'm sorry, Ran, but I really don't have time to talk now. Shouldn't you go to the supermarket?" he muttered while trying to solve a math problem. "Yeah ok. See you later." I closed his door and went to the front door. "I'll go quickly then." I called and opened the door. "Be careful not to get kidnapped." said my father humorously and laughed at his 'so funny' joke. I closed the door behind me and walked down the street. It was already dark. It was a full moon. The stars twinkled and every now and then a few clouds passed by. I actually liked the dark. But somehow I had a strange feeling today. It wasn't like usual. I didn't smell dogs or other animals. I didn't hear any rustling, barking or howling. The street seemed empty. Fear and ruin seemed to be in the air. I tried to stay calm. My heart was racing and I felt the urge to just run away. A shiver ran down my spine and I shivered. I felt that something was wrong here. And then I smelled them. I smelled wolves. But not wolves like me. Not from this area and also not those who would not harm me. I smelled that there were many. Too much to be able to do anything against them on their own. Quietly and without making a sound, I assumed the shape of the wolf.
I had that gift. But nobody but the other wolves knew anything about it. Only a select few possessed this gift. I inherited it from my grandmother and nobody in my family knew about it.
I slowly followed the smells. I knew I had to be careful not to let others notice me. But what would I do if they noticed me? If I run away, unless it's an ambush, I could escape. I desperately looked for a hiding place. I sat in a corner behind a garbage can. Then I waited. I was just too curious to leave now. I wanted to know what these strangers were doing in this city. I looked carefully around the corner. And then I saw her. A whole pack of white wolves ran out of a small alley in the middle of the street. There they stopped, formed a circle, and an old wolf stepped in the middle. He seemed to be saying something but I couldn't hear anything. I stared at them spellbound. But suddenly I heard something behind me. I jerked around and looked into Kaito's face. "What are you doing here ?" he asked and stood up in front of me. "Well, I actually wanted to go to the supermarket and then I scented these strangers." "Why didn't you call me?" Kaito gave me an angry look. "I have no idea. I didn't think of it." Kaito walked past me without a word. He watched the strangers then he wanted to come back to me. "We have to go to Masaru."
"What do you want to say to Masaru? And what should we do?" I ran after Kaito through the night to Masaru.
When he got there, we assumed our human form and rang the doorbell at his house. A few minutes later his wife opened the door. "Yes, please ?" she said and looked at us both. "We would like to speak to Masaru." said Kaito, brushing his black hair back. The woman let us in and we waited for Masaru in the living room. When he came he looked pretty sleepy. "What gives ?" he asked without greeting us. The three of us sat at the kitchen table and Kaito told what we had both seen. While the black-haired man talked, I watched him. I found out that he was actually a pretty handsome guy. He had beautiful blue eyes and a very narrow, angular face, which immediately caught the eye. He was tall and thin, but he was quite muscular.
"Hmm ... we should do something about that." decided Masaru. "And what ?" I asked him. "First we will round up the pack and then we will watch them to know what they are up to."Without saying another word, the leader took us to the door and Kaito and I made our way home. This time slowly and in our normal shape. Without a word we walked side by side. When we turned a corner I suddenly smelled the scent of the other wolves again. "Tell me, do you smell that too?" I asked Kaito. "Yes." he growled and suddenly pushed me against a hedge. "We have to wait until they are gone. Alone we have no chance against them." He pressed his body very close to mine. A shiver ran over me. "Ok let's try to get out of here." Kaito said then and pulled me by the hand. We ran towards the main street. The other wolves would certainly not show up there.
