When I woke up, my eyes were blinded by the blazing light, so much that I squeezed them tight and didn't dare to open them any longer. Muffled voices reached me, but I couldn't quite tell where they were coming from. My head was spinning from one direction to the other by itself, but the scraps of words seemed to come from everywhere. Then, all of a sudden, I heard a voice right next to me.
"She's awake ... shh, be quiet!" She announced. It was a soft, almost soothing male voice, quite young, probably my age.
Where have i been How did i get here My attempts to remember failed. The only thing I remembered were scattered pictures;
running through the forest, the barking of dogs and rough touches on my body.
I noticed how something squeezed between me and the pressure of the light, thus slightly constricting my air, but it made it possible for me to open my eyes.
Slowly and carefully, I began to look at my surroundings. At first I saw everything blurred, then everything refined and I could see about 3 bodies and a window. I couldn't turn my head, as if either my head or my eyes could work. With a lot of effort I managed to open my eyelids completely and see more details. The male voice belonged to a brown-haired boy who was sitting next to me on the bed. Besides him, I discovered a somewhat older boy and a girl whose beauty almost made me blush with envy. However, I didn't have much time to observe them in detail, because the brown-haired man suddenly put his hand on my forehead and smiled at me.
"Well, you seem to be feeling better, little fox?" He stated with a grin and then got up.
My mind wasn't fast enough to see the connection between me and a fox, even though it was pretty clear. My parents couldn't think of a better name thanVulpawhen I was born. They thought this name would go very well with my reddish fluff. Later they kept asserting how well I had developed; my fine features and green eyes underlined my name perfectly, as well as my rather small size.Vulpawas just as much asFuchs. I know, it's a pretty stupid name, Vulpa, but since I never had a lot of friends at school that was never a big problem.
This belittling and translation of the name, however, made me feel a little angry; i wasn't cute!
Grumbling, I slowly raised my arm, but immediately let it drop again, as the slightest movement hurt me terribly. The boy looked at me in amazement, looked down at me, then grinned.
"When you got here you looked worse than a rotten corpse.Blood everywhere, abrasions, bruises and torn clothes, no idea what you've done, "he shrugged.
“I'm Kieran, by the way, and this is Gero and Vanity.” He pointed to the other two. All the names seemed perfect for us - Kieran sounded a little wilder, Gero like a Greek and Vanity just totally suited the girl. I had completely forgotten the two up to this point and now took the time to examine all three of them carefully.
Gero: a muscular, relatively tall young man, I estimated him around 20. His features looked serious, not a bit of friendliness, but incredibly pretty for a boy.
Vanity: she was slim, about six feet tall, and exceptionally beautiful. Breathtaking. The envy came up again in me and I forced myself to look at Kieran.
The latter was probably medium-sized - because he was sitting, I couldn't assess that exactly - and looked extremely friendly. Otherwise he looked normal, only his eyes fascinated me. They were a fine, light green, almost no longer natural, but beautiful ...
Gero's throat clearing tore me from my observation tour.
"She should rest a bit, let's leave her alone," his voice was so dark that I winced briefly at his words. Vanity nodded.
"Yes."
And so they both disappeared from the room.
Kieran and I studied each other for a while before I started asking him questions.
"How do I get here? Where did you find me? Where am I here? How do you know my name? Who are you? What happened to me-" His hand on my lips prevented me from continuing.
"Mhhpf!"
"Calm down," his voice was so gentle that it really calmed you down with the sound of it. “I'll explain everything I know to you.” He sounded honest, so I nodded to show him that I would be silent.
Kieran, Gero and Vanity had just decided to skip school and take a little trip into the forest when they 'stumbled' over me in it. I was hardly recognized as a person under all the blood and dirt, he said. They had first wiped all the dirt off me to possibly identify me, but that was impossible. And so they took me to the huge school that the three of them went to. I was treated and cared for there, just as I was visited every day. My clothes had been taken off and new ones got me. Nobody knew where I came from or what had happened to me, but the whole school already knew about the 'Mysterious Vixen' - the name was actually given to me by my reddish hair.
After some time of explanation, my brain had to take in all of this information and Kieran gave me time to deal with it. He got me a glass of water, sat on a chair in the corner of the room, and said nothing.Isolated memory images reappeared in my head. Barking dogs, rough touches, laughter.
"Somebody was following me," I said all of a sudden. It was neither a cry for help nor a terrible fact. It was just a statement. I didn't know from whom, but I was absolutely certain that someone had been following me. Kieran looked up at me, giving me a questioning look that I skilfully ignored.
"How long have I been here?"
His look was so surprised that I almost had to smile.
"You talk about persecution and then, from one second to the next, you change the subject like persecution is the most normal thing in the world." He shook his head. "For about a month."
My mouth fell open and I had to control myself for it to close again.
"One month?"
"One month."
"What have you been doing to me for so long?"
"You looked really bad. Numerous bruises, an open wound from the thigh to the ankle, a swollen eye, split lips, matted hair, broken nails, screaming-"
"Ok, ok, I got it! I want to look around here a bit ... and then you can explain to me exactly where I am", I interrupted him and began to free myself from the blanket.
At first he wanted to keep me from getting up, but I gave him such a terrifying look that he dutifully supported my body and hobbled out of the room with me.
He closed the door behind us, turned around with me, and walked on with me. I was looking around the corner when I saw him.
