The next morning I woke up to the clanking and clinking of the kitchen. I propped up on my hands and searched the bed for Kakashi, but he was nowhere to be found. I quickly fished my boxer shorts from behind the bed and crept into the kitchen. With his back to me, Kakashi was standing at the counter, preparing something. I crept quietly into the bathroom and took a shower. The cooling was good because the temperatures were getting higher every day.
When I was done I tied a beige towel and gently padded back into the kitchen. Kakashi was still there - but this time he scoured the fridge.
Unnoticed, I crept behind him to give him a kiss on the neck by standing on tiptoe. He winced slightly at my touch. Slowly he turned around and just smiled at me. I smiled back:
"Good morning, Mr. Hatake!"
.
Kakashi bent down to me and gave me a kiss on the forehead: "Good morning, honey! Did you sleep well?".
Inside I was frightened: Kakashi had never called me sweetheart! He had used little nicknames quite often, but this time it seemed different. There was something mature about it this time - as if this were a couple's tomorrow. He used it so naturally and directly ... I didn't know if I liked it.
In contrast to me, Kakashi was already dressed, the table was perfectly set, a pile of mail lay next to the newspaper in Kakashi's place and hot coffee was steaming in the cups.
Something had changed. Something about our relationship seemed different to me.
I, on the other hand, stood half sleepy but freshly showered only covered with a towel and still wet hair in the middle of the kitchen and felt unreal.
"Yes, I did ...", my attention deviated from the kitchen table and landed back at Kakashi, "And you? You were so tired and fell asleep straight away ..." I whistled teasingly to loosen up the mood.
Apparently I had hit his sore spot.
"Hana ... I'm so sorry ... I didn't want that, but yesterday everything was so different ...", he bowed his head."Oh you! That's not bad! I just wanted to say that it was your own fault, didn't it? I suggested that you sleep better ..." I sat down at the kitchen table, giggling.
Kakashi followed me, his gaze on my back. I could literally feel how he almost tore the towel off my body with his eyes.
"Isn't that a great towel?" I asked casually, and was right. Kakashi sat bolt upright and stuttered until he had come up with an excuse: "I ... I just checked whether ... the sign was still hanging on the hem!".
"Whether the sign is still hanging on the hem? Of course!", Grinning sarcastically, I took a slice of bread from the bread basket and put it on top.
"Of course, because otherwise it could ... Do you like it?", He tried to distract from the topic and I granted it with a sigh.
"Yes, it does. Why are you up so early?" I took a sip of coffee.
"I could not sleep anymore.".
"Oh! Why?", Kakashi began to put a sandwich on himself.
"Oh, my thoughts haven't left me alone."
"What was going through your head? Must be very important if you couldn't sleep because of it.", I looked up and noticed that Kakashi was watching me, even staring right through me. When he noticed my gaze he shook his head.
"Oh, just nonsense ... unimportant!" He waved off and picked up the post.
I just nodded and watched him sort the mail: advertising, bills, official mail, miscellaneous. Most of the pile ended up in advertising, a single letter ended up with the bills, but it turned out that Kakashi's electricity provider wanted to sell him a new contract and ended up in advertising, and the official mail stayed out because Kakashi was on vacation was. A single letter was left: it was in a sand-colored envelope, there was a seal on the back of the envelope and the front was graciously labeled.
Kakashi held the letter in his hands a little longer than necessary before carefully opening it.
"What kind of letter is that?" I asked curiously.
"It comes from Sunagakure! It was sent on behalf of the Kazekage!", Kakashi assumed confused.
I joined his madman: "Why do you get it then? Doesn't it have to go to the Hokage? Or is it addressed to you?"
"It's addressed to me!", Kakashi carefully pulled a piece of paper out of the envelope and unfolded it.
Kakashi scanned the letter, then read it aloud:
Dear Mr. Hatake,
With this letter we want to inform you that you have been chosen to take part in our internal festival in honor of the summer night to represent your village. In addition to the Hokage, they will appear for the Konoha-Nin. We hope you will keep the appointment, as your presence is very important to us. Please let us know if you accept.
Accommodation and meals will of course be provided. With best regards,
on behalf of G. Sabakuno
There was a slight smile on Kakashi's face. "Apparently we're going to take a little trip, honey!" Still keeping his eyes on the letter, he put an arm around my shoulders.
Sweetheart. Sweetheart. Sweetheart. Sweetheart. Sweetheart.
The word vibrated in my head. It was just weird this morning with Kakashi. Has that always been the case? When I thought about it, I'd never really had breakfast with kakashi before. Either I had to leave early, school called, Greta was there and a lot more stood in the way. Still, Kakashi's behavior was different.
Was he nervous? If everything had been as always, he would have kissed me right and in the end we would have ended up snogging somewhere. But now he was holding me with kid gloves.
Hesitantly, I took heart: "Kakashi?".
He looked up worried: "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, but somehow this morning is strange. Don't you think so too?" I tried to make the sentence disappear with a smile.
"To what extent? A normal breakfast, right?", The nervousness in his language became more noticeable.
"Oh, it doesn't matter ...", Kakashi was strangely satisfied with this answer.
"Oh! We have to go next week!"
Since he was still examining the letter, I leaned over the table to his ear: "Kakashi, I ... I trust you. No matter what or what. I trust you blindly and I know that I can always rely on you. Me just hope you know that too, yeah? ". Little by little I pull back again. Kakashi's face had lost all expression. A nod could be seen in his gestures. Without a word he got up, went around the table and stopped in front of me. Kakashi took my hand and pulled me up to him. His hands cupped my face. And then he kissed me. He kissed me and everything seemed back to normal.
"Hana ...", Kakashi groaned into the kiss and pulled me closer to him, "I know. I will always protect you!" just play a prank on me. And for some reason I really wanted to cry.
