Part 4
Vampire versus mummy
There was no other way to describe the figure crouched between the trees and bushes. A vampire. Not a real one, of course, but his pale face and bloodshot eyes would have given anyone the idea. His whole appearance was to be classified as creepy. However, this vampire was out during the day instead of at night. It was already getting dark, but the vampire preferred to arrive at his destination before dark. He moved slowly and carefully, but that was part of his plan. He was approaching a camp and the guards were not allowed to see anything from him. The vampire aimed at a surprise attack. He climbed a tree to see the camp. From above he saw that his goal wasn't that far away anymore. Two guards immediately jumped up and patrolled. They wore white tracksuits and scoured the area with their eyes. The vampire knew it couldn't be the only ones. There was something in this camp that had been hidden from strangers. The vampire had been sent to steal it. He knew he was stronger than the fighters guarding the item, but didn't want to take unnecessary risks. His information could also be wrong, and it was all a ruse. The closer he got to the camp, the more he breathed a sigh of relief. He wore an amulet around his neck that gave him magical abilities. It also reacted to other amulets when one was around. This, however, was not the case. None of the guards appeared to be wearing amulets, which made the mission look easy. The vampire had now reached the camp and pressed himself against the wall of a wooden hut. For this, the two guards talked. The vampire didn't understand the language, but was sure it had to be Chinese. He was closer to the goal now than ever before. He no longer regretted climbing around in the mountains for days, and even getting lost a few times. He was almost on target. He climbed the roof of the hut and watched the guards from above. They didn't even seem to have noticed him. They were completely surprised when the vampire jumped from the hut and landed right between the two. He preferred not to take the first step but to give the guards a chance. They used this and attacked the vampire. He reached out and stopped the attacks with his bare hand. "Karate, huh?" He made fun of his opponents. He let go of them again and held out his hands to them. As if caught in a tornado, the two guards flew through the air and hit the walls of the wooden huts. The vampire was still convinced that the two really were no longer a threat and then continued on his way. He discovered three more huts and wondered if he should really search them all.One of the huts was a bit bigger than the rest, so he started with it. He kicked the door open and went inside without looking around first. The other huts were probably set up for sleeping and eating, but this one housed something else. It was what the vampire was looking for. The inside of the hut basically consisted of a long hallway, at the end of which two guards were waiting for him. The vampire took a closer look and even spotted three. One of them was kneeling on the floor with his back in front of him and seemed to be holding something. Now he rose and looked expectantly at the intruder. His look and demeanor impressed the vampire for a moment. Chinese characters were emblazoned on his face. They extended from his eyes to his chin. The vampire concluded that it must be the leader of the group. "It is rude to break into our camp and then not even introduce yourself," the Chinese man addressed him. The vampire grinned and took a few steps towards him. The two guards prepared for a fight. The vampire looked at her contemptuously. "My name doesn't matter. I want the Book of the Dead and I'm not leaving here before you've given it to me. Of course, I can use violence if you prefer." The leader of the group immediately recognized the amulet the vampire was wearing. "I am Yen, the guardian of the book. First, I have to congratulate you on finding us in this no man's land. However, we cannot let you go with the book.", He explained. The vampire was already prepared for something like that and showed strength. He walked up to Yen and the remaining guards pounced on him. For the vampire, however, they were no real opponents. He struck down one of them with the same technique as the other two. He checked the second with a single blow to the stomach. Yen was the only one left now. "As you can see, I am no match for an opponent. But I propose a deal. You give me the book voluntarily and I'll let you live.", Suggested the vampire. Yen clenched his teeth. That was never an option for him. He'd rather sacrifice himself for the cause. He reached into his pocket at lightning speed, pulled out something circular and threw it at the vampire. He reacted immediately and protected himself with his right arm. The object went straight into him but did not cause a wound. The vampire just grinned gleefully and pulled a metal star from his arm. "What do you say about it? What you see in these karate films is actually true." Yen eyed him in disbelief. His opponent had everyone screamed, another wound. His arm had briefly turned black and only a hole in his shirt reminded of the attack. "What ... are you?" Yen asked unsettled. The vampire came towards him now. "I'm the last person you'll see," he prophesied. Yen now gathered all his courage and attacked the vampire. This briefly underestimated and staggered back. But then he grinned. Yen was apparently a class stronger than his people. The vampire still didn't think about using his full strength. Yen attacked him with a combination of kicks and punches, which the vampire fended off with his bare arms. They turned black every time they were hit. Yen suspected that this had something to do with his enemy's amulet. The vampire now dared a look at the other end of the hut. There he saw the book lying on a pedestal. "All right, I'm ending the fight with this," he threw Yen. This could not be provoked and attacked again. The vampire suddenly vanished into thin air and Yen's attack came nowhere. It was too late when he noticed the vampire reappearing behind his back and knocking him down with an aimed blow in the back. Yen hit the floor and tried to get up again. However, it failed. For some reason, he couldn't feel his legs anymore. Was he really seriously injured? The vampire just grinned and kicked Yen's head. "As I predicted," he said happily about the win. Yen growled and felt ashamed of his defeat. The vampire held out his hand for the book and it flew as if by magic from the end of the room towards him. He grabbed it greedily and looked at it from all sides. Old wasn't an expression at all. It already looked so rotten that it was a miracle it hadn't turned to dust yet. When he tried to open it, he got a nasty surprise. It had a kind of lock that apparently could only be opened with a key. The vampire looked around the room again, and then cursed. "Where's the key?" He turned back to Yen. He started to laugh, even though he knew what was going to happen to him. "Go to hell.", He wished him and the vampire got so angry that he kicked Yen's neck and he made a cracking noise. Yen didn't even groan. His head fell to one side and his eyes went blank. The vampire was happy for the triumph for a short while until he remembered the key. He was forced to search the camp all night. It wasn't until dawn that he realized that the key had to be hidden somewhere else. In principle it was even logical. The book couldn't be opened without the key, and the key was nothing without the book. Nobody would hide both in the same place. To the vampire's chagrin. He had no idea where to look anymore. It was a coincidence that he got hold of the information about the secret camp. He regretted not having tortured Yen to get the information. The guards couldn't get anything out of them, they probably didn't even know what the book was about. The vampire was now on his way back. Back in London he would continue research and try to find the key.
"I have quite a problem, don't I?" Will asked, completely exhausted. His co-driver Max leaned over and examined the damage. "Yep, you're done.", He had to agree with him. Will sighed. How could he be so stupid and miss a street lamp? There was a huge scratch on the trunk, above the license plate. "I don't think they'll kick you out.", Max reassured him. Will was still uncomfortable with the situation. The car was insured but did not belong to him. His instructor would surely crush him if he found out. "Of course we can also come up with a story," suggested Max. But Will thought nothing of it. He wanted to face the consequences. Max patted him on the shoulder appreciatively. "Well, it was an honor to have known you," he said theatrically. Will knew he wasn't exaggerating. Your instructor was a tough guy. Maybe he wouldn't kick Will right away, but he still had a lot to expect. Fortunately for him, his instructor was at a meeting and Will described the incident to his secretary. She took it all in and gave Will a gracious look. This hung his shoulders. He would have loved to have received his punishment right away than to wait a whole day. He left the training center and got into his own car. He looked at the clock and decided to drive past the university where Connor was studying. He would definitely be happy about the lift. But Will had to admit that Connor wasn't the only reason for his detour. He also hoped to see Emma again, whom he hadn't seen in over a month. He'd called her a couple of times, but she'd always put him off. She was either studying for university or had to clean up her apartment. Was she deliberately avoiding Will? Or did she just bury herself in work? It has been a year since Kevin disappeared. He'd asked Will to tell everyone about his alleged demise. Will had granted his wish with a heavy heart and told Emma that Kevin did not survive the fight with Mandulis. Even Connor believed Kevin
