Friendships

In the beginning everyone was wonderful. I met you on the swing in the park. How old were you there Two. Exactly and nobody played with you. You were new and you were different.
"Who is afraid of the black man?" I heard the bigger ones calling.
"Nobody!" replied the little ones, but when you got up, laughing and running up to them ignorantly as they waved, the big ones asked.
"What if he comes?"
"Then we run!" Screaming loudly, the little ones ran off and you still didn't understand. You were too young to see the mockery, but your mother knew exactly, pulled you away from the children and left the square.
I followed you unobtrusively, but why hide when I should only be there for you?
When I got home I saw the many boxes. You weren't finished unpacking, but your room looked lovingly prepared. Not indicated a father. Later I knew that he had left you, had been overtaken by a serious illness.
“Mama there.” Now you had discovered me, but your mother, like all adults, sees through me. Your hands grab me and from that moment on I was special to you.
Years went by and I always came when you called, but time has left its mark. We all played games that little boys play. I was the horse and you my rider. I the evil dragon and you the golden knight. I the sea monster and you the fearless pirate. Yes we were everything. We could do everything, but then you made more and more friends and when you tell them about me, they said that their invisible friends left a long time ago. Nobody laughed at you and yet they made it clear that you are too old for that.
You didn't want to believe that yet, but I already knew it, consoled you and said that it was so right.
Yes we the invisible friends all go. Whenever the children have their friends, the time has come for us to slowly break away from our loved ones. I accompanied you less and less. Knew that you weren't alone and had fun, but like every time it burned a deep wound in my heart. Always friend for a short while. Always only one companion. Always there for the little ones. Yes, that's the way it is.
Soon it was time and you stopped calling me by name and I had to go. We never say goodbye, because we wouldn't really go either. Always ready to answer your call. Always hoping that we will still be needed, we linger and even if you don't call me, I'll be there.
I give you consolation as before, but now you are an adult, you will never see me again, but sometimes you feel my paw on your head, my wing spread over you and my tail wrapped around you, like before.
Then you look up, looking for me, the familiar feeling that gives you warmth and every now and then I think you would look into my eyes, but then you turn away, smile and say something about imagination.Have you seen Me? No certainly not.
I'll stay by your side until the last second and then it's time for one last time. Your eyes see me I'm lying with you, accompany you on your last way and smile when you say my name again in your mind. You remember and that closes the wound that has been bleeding for so long. Now are you no longer there and me?

I stand by the park, flap my wings and wave to a little girl. I am here for you now. Am her Pegasus and she the beautiful fairy. I am the maid and she the princess. I am the helping angel and she is the poor orphan girl. We are everything, we can do everything and yet I know the day will come when I will only accompany her from afar until she too thinks my name and closes the torn wound, before I visit the next sad child. That's how my life is. It will always be like that. Constant companion, but most of the time alone.
