Bittersweet

Chapter 1 - 2]

They went hand in hand. They went down the path. The sun was shining. It was warm. The way was sandy. Not a single stone was in their way. Left and right a beautiful green meadow with a few magnificent trees the size of a house. Flowers bloomed. Such beautiful white lilies. Only two white clouds moved across the sky, like sheep that slowly chased each other across a blue meadow. Two animals looked curiously over at the two. The young couple. So happy. So free. She wrapped in a white dress. As white as innocence itself. He was only wearing a red shirt. No more. Not less. A red shirt as red as his burning love. They walked hand in hand along the path. Nobody thought of tomorrow. Nobody thought of yesterday. He looked at her. She looked back. Their eyes met. For a brief moment the world stood still for the boy. Because he only had one world. A world in a white dress. She started to smile. Closed her eyes. And started laughing out loud. The boy went red like his shirt. "Can't you close your mouth anymore? Come on!", She said with such a happy expression on her face, ran ahead and pulled the boy by his hand behind her. The boy was speechless. The boy was in love. The boy was shy. He could never tell her. He was much too shy. And so they ran. They ran all day. They never let go of the other's hand. They ran down the path. They ran into a forest. They ran out of a forest. They ran up a hill. They were running down a hill. They ran and ran. They ran until night fell. Hand in hand they sat down by a pond. The full moon was reflected in this and illuminated the shore. Fireflies flew all over the place. It was a beautifully lit spectacle. It was night Neither of them was cold. They had each other. "Have you ever seen a night so brightly lit?" She asked him. "No, never," he said. "Only every night is so brightly lit with you.", Thought the boy secretly. "Oh, what a shame.", Said the girl and snuggled tight to the boy. He blushed and she fell asleep on his lap. His eyes went wide and he started to grin. To grin as wide as he had never grinned before. He hugged her and let himself fall back, closed his eyes and fell asleep. "Wake up!" Shouted a soft voice all at once. It was day again. "Did I sleep? Did I dream? Is the night over already?" Asked the boy. "Come on now!" The girl shouted even louder. The boy was completely torn from his thoughts. She grabbed his hand again and they ran on down the road. And so everything started all over again. They ran. This time through half the jungle. Over whole mountains and all at once they stood in front of a whole sea. It was night again. The moon seemed even brighter this time. There were a lot more fireflies flying. "Isn't it beautiful?" She asked. "Yes it is," he said. "Just like you," he muttered to himself. "What did you say?" She wanted to know. "Nothing," he replied. He was still so shy. He still couldn't say anything. And the same game again. She snuggled up against him. She fell asleep. He closed his eyes. It was day again. She woke him up again, only one thing was different. She didn't take his hand. She just kept walking. He ran after her. They went along the path and at the end of the path there was a fork. "Do you love me?" She asked him without giving him a look. He just stuttered and made no sound. "Oh, forget it.", She said and ran away from him. She took the right path at the fork. She ran and her dress turned black. She ran without turning around. She ran until he couldn't see her anymore. He just stood there. He just stood there in his black shirt. As black as the nights he would still live through. A tear left his eye. He wiped it off his face and went down the left path. He went his way, often looking back and thinking what it would be like if he had told her. How it would be if they walked this path together. What it would be like to be happy now. He would never be able to forget her. They would never see each other again. They never saw each other again. Never again.
