Morrigain
Chapter 3: RED!
After their little visit to the cemetery, Morrigain had quickly set off for their intended destination. During the short stay on the Highgate Cemetry, her anger at the Shinigami, which surrounded her at the beginning of the day, had given way to an oppressive melancholy. But she now had far bigger problems than having to deal with her unhappy love. In their hunt for the missing sword, there would certainly be an opportunity to look for Undertaker.
At last she had reached the little dark alley in the trading port on the Thames, which she had chosen as a landing site months ago.
Perfect! There were hardly any people around, that made everything a little easier.
With an elegant bow she descended and flew into the protective shadows of the houses. Shortly before she reached the ground, she initiated the transformation so that she touched the trodden earth with elegant leather shoes of the current London fashion and not with rough bird legs. Morrigain paused for a moment, then smoothed her dress, a dark blue and black turquoise, and walked on.
But it didn't work as elegant and stylish as she had imagined. Again and again she bent painfully in the unfamiliar heels. The very tight dress with the lush fabric hindered her in every movement and then there was this cursed corset that so successfully hindered normal breathing.
Morrigain had the feeling of being overwhelmed by the dizziness and leaned against the cold house wall.
"How do the women stand it?" Morrigain scolded softly. "Now I realize why they are all so stiff".
Someone laughed out loud. "My dear, you are embarrassed!"
The voice came from one of the rooftops, and it was all too well known to Morrigain. It belonged to this Shinigami Grell, who had already treated Morrigain with great suspicion during her stay in the Shinigami Society and only because she had spoken to "his will". Morrigain, preferring not to answer, straightened up and started walking in the direction she suspected the shopping streets were. She heard Grell following her on the rooftops and he seemed to be amused by every wobbler.
"I knew that someone like you could never show true elegance!" he shouted . Now finally he decided to leave the roofs. Grell jumped and landed right next to Morrigain without the slightest uncertainty. He walked silently next to Morrigain for a while, but she sensed that he was watching her extremely closely. "I don't know how you can be called the most beautiful of the fairies. Personally, I don't even find you attractive. You just have no style. Always those dark clothes and then this silly turning into crows and all." Grell adjusted his glasses and ran his hair through. "No man would choose something like you.Especially not when ... "" When you are around? "Morrigain interrupted him. But either Grell hadn't noticed her sarcastic undertone or simply missed it." Exactly! You have understood it after all. You don't seem that stupid after all! Oh yes and no matter what you try, my will will never indulge in someone like you. Even if I repeat myself, stay away from him, honey. "He laughed.
Morrigain took a deep breath and swallowed the large number of wild insults that she actually wanted to throw at the red Shinigami and instead asked "What do you want from me?"
Grell took a big step and stood in Morrigain's way. "I'm here to take you to your 'minder'."
"Fortunately, it's not you!" she countered and pushed the slim man aside.
"I can only give that back! However, I don't know who has to take on this hideous criminal service, only where to take you." He shrugged his shoulders.
"Then talk less and finally lead me there!"
Grell laughed softly "As you wish, Madame!" he quickened his pace and shouted "Come on, I don't feel like wasting my time with you any longer than necessary!"
Morrigain felt as if their march through London's alleys would take forever and Grell Sutcliff continued to give tips enthusiastically as soon as Morrigain showed any uncertainty. How she would have loved to tear this Shinigami to pieces for his insolence, but then her mission would certainly have failed.
By now the two of them had moved into the busier part of London and the people on the streets were starting to look for them. They weren't exactly inconspicuous either. The long way had a good one, because Morrigain was slowly getting used to the heels and the tightness of the dress.
Then, just as Morrigain was considering asking her "tour guide" where he was actually taking her, Grell stopped, turned to her and with an almost casual gesture, indicated a small café. "We're here! Your contact person is probably already waiting for you."
Morrigain managed a slightly pained sounding "Thank you" when Grell opened the door for her and let her inside.
