Heiji Hattori's spontaneous declaration of love

The student detective was in his room. He sat hunched over his desk in sweatpants and a thin sweater and propped his head on his right hand. The only light in the room was that of the desk lamp, which was aimed at his math papers.
What if Shinichi is right about that? How say ...
Giving an irritated growl, Kudo's former rival ran his hand through his black hair.
Then his gaze wandered back resignedly to his exercise book: "It will never work if Shinichi just hadn't called me! It's all his fault if I put the exam in the sand tomorrow!"
Yawning in frustration, Heiji looked at his watch:
"11:56 pm. Damn it!", Tired and annoyed, he slowly got up, switched off the light of the desk lamp, then took off his sweater and, last but not least, trotted to his bed with a sigh.

However, the Western detective couldn't stop thinking about this matter:
"Do it", otherwise you may not have the opportunity to do so at some point, "he repeated the words of his friend, mumbling.
Then he turned on the other side so that he was now lying on his stomach. He rested his head on his arms. As hard as the chief inspector's son tried, he couldn't sleep with the best will in the world.
"I'm going insane!"
Completely exasperated, he finally threw the covers aside, jumped up, pulled his sweater back on, opened the door of his room and quickly went out.
Then he ran down the stairs, opened the front door and got his motorcycle out of the garage ...

The next morning, Heiji's mother came up the stairs to her son's room. She entered and shook it:
"Heiji, you have to get up!"
"What'n? Mama let me get some more sleep.", He muttered quietly, turning around.
"No! Come on! Come on! You will otherwise be late for school!", She said energetically, shaking him again emphatically. Heiji immediately sat upright. He passed his mother quickly and the bathroom door closed behind him.
His mother, who was still standing next to his bed, just shook her head uncomprehendingly.

Heiji rushed down the stairs in school uniform.
"There we are at last, you idiot!", Kazuha called out to him, who angrily approached him.
He jumped down the last few steps and landed safely on his feet just before her.
At first she wanted to dodge to the left and he went past her to the right, but then she avoided him to the right and he went to the left. With a wave of his hand he gestured to her to stop and ran past her to his mother, who had just made him his lunch.
Just shouting a short "thank you", he left the house in a hurry.
Kazuha quickly shouted "Bye" and ran after him.

"Come on! Run faster, Kazuha!"
"Hey wait! ... I can't go any faster. Besides, what are you complaining about now? I'm probably not the one who slept so long, it's you!", The girl with the ponytail countered vigorously, when she finally caught up with him.Frantically he pushed up his sleeve to see the time on his watch: "Damn it!", He tore his hair in frustration: "What the heck? No matter how fast we run now, it's already ten. Can do that we never. ", the detective resigned regretfully.
"Great, you sleepyhead!"
"Hey, I didn't damn well overslept on purpose! You could have come earlier!" He shouted at her harshly, justifying himself.
"How should we please know that you're missing out. It's your own fault if you don't go to bed earlier.", She rumbled back: "Because of you, we're finally missing the exam!"
"Oh, if you care ?!"
"You me?"
"Pah! I won't lose anything anyway!"
How? "Kazuha paused:" What do you mean by that? "
“Forget it!” He started moving again and stepped up another tooth. She also quickened her pace. The whole way she tried to get an answer, but Heiji didn't say anything anymore ...

When the two high school students entered the school building, they found, as expected, that the exam had already started. So they had no choice but to wait in front of the door for it to end.
While Kazuha leaned dejectedly against the door frame, Heiji angrily let himself slide down the wall.
Embarrassed silence.
After a short while, Heiji looked up: "Do you want to come into town with me?"
Kazuha looked at him in surprise, but then nodded.
So the detective got up and left the building with her.

Nobody said a word as the two high school students walked close together across the schoolyard.
Still in silence, they reached the city.
Heiji's gaze was lowered the whole time.
After a while, Kazuha, who had noticed it long ago, looked at him steadfastly. Her detective's look was sad and reflected a touch of sadness. It confused her a little. Without further ado she decided to ask him: "Are you okay?"
"Hm?" The addressee winced imperceptibly: “Yes.” He tried a corresponding smile: “Well, of course!”, but it failed.
"Are you sure?", Ran's friend checked again.
"Well, ... no. I don't know ...", he stopped suddenly, undecided.
So she stopped too and looked at him questioningly.
The only thing Shinichi's friend was able to do was a fleeting, drawn out: "Um ..."
Kazuha tried to make eye contact, but he avoided it.
Indeed, then he suddenly looked at her with determined eyes, before he soon lost his courage and decided to look away: I don't know how to say it, but ic .. I .. I let ... "

"Heiji, what are you doing here at this time?", He suddenly heard a startled voice behind him, which interrupted him from a close distance.
The chief inspector's son started in horror.
"Don't you have a school?"
From the tone of his voice, the detective recognized that it was Inspector Otaki, who seemed to be approaching from a shop.
Inevitably, Heizo's son gritted his teeth and, like Kazuha, turned around very, very slowly, cursing barely audibly.Immediately he tried to look innocent. But Kazuha came with the truth: "We came too late and now have to wait until the exam is written."
The inspector, now arrived at them.
"Hello," came the short, but exaggeratedly polite Hattori.
Otaki eyed him suspiciously: "What have you done?"
"What should I have done?" The detective roared unintentionally.
"It's okay. Calm down. I don't ask any further questions," said the inspector, raising his hands disarmed.
Silence.
"I haven't seen you in the presidium for a while. How come?" The inspector looked at the junior criminologist questioningly.
"I had a lot to do. I'll take a look at the days."
"Good, that would be fine with me. I have a case where I can't get any further. If you have the time and feel like it, you can help me with it."
"Uh, no thanks.", Heiji grumpily refused the offer.
No? , it shot through the minds of the other two people present: He doesn't want to? ...
Very strange…
Heiji noticed the surprise belatedly and quickly added: "We'll write two more exams next week."
But ... that's not true !? ...
Kazuha didn't understand and looked at her classmate in confusion.
Otaki, on the other hand, bought it from him with a shrug and replied, relieved, with: "Oh, well then."
"If I have time I'll definitely come by. Goodbye. We have to go now!" Said Heiji and pulled Kazuha behind him by the jacket sleeve.

"What shoud that?"
"What is what?"
"Why did you just lie to him?"
Heiji was silent and instead quickened his pace: "Shut up!"
Now it was Kazuha who was angry and stubbornly stood still.
He felt her resistance and pulled harder, but she withstood it.
He left her angrily.
"Heiji, now wait for me!", She called after him. While she was trying to catch up with him.
Called one quickened his pace again, changed the side of the street.

When Kazuha finally reached Heiji, she asked him: "What has'u? That's not your way!"
"Oh, nothing!" He fended off stubbornly.
"But something has'u!"
"No! I have nothing! Let. Me. In. Quiet!", He said again impetuously.
"As far as I am! If you don't want to, you already have!", It came offended from her side and now it was she who ran away and left her classmate alone ..
Shit damn it!

After school they both went home separately.
To the: "Hello, how was school?" Heiji didn't react to his mother, but ran silently up to his room.
His mother, who had come to the railing, stopped in astonishment.
What about him? .
When he got to his room, West Japan's detective slammed the door behind him with a loud rumble and threw his jacket first, then himself onto his bed.
A few moments later his mother stood in front of his closed door and knocked for him.
"Heiji!"

However, the high school detective gave her no answer.
"Heiji?"
"Yes?"
"Can I come in?" She asked him with an undertone of concern in her voice."As far as I'm concerned," it came back grumbling.
Heiji's mother opened the door and stood in the doorway. She looked at her son, who was lying there dejected.
"Has something happened?" She asked in a caring manner.
When asked, he remained silent.
"Don't you want to talk about it?" His mother offered to talk to him.
No Answer!
"You can think about it.", She finally said and went to the door, which she closed quietly behind her.
In the room her son was left sad and perplexed.

The hours passed. Still lying on his bed, he looked suspiciously at his watch.
And already he heard his mother calling from below: "Heiji, come downstairs. The meal is ready."
He ignored her.
Only when his father called out to him strictly: "Heiji!" he got himself up inwardly, cursing the day he had been so curious.

When he got downstairs, his parents were already sitting at the table and eating. Slowly he sat down without a word of greeting.

"Good afternoon, son."
The young detective could already tell from his father's tone of voice that he was facing trouble. Immediately he tried to avoid his inquiring gaze.
"Hello," he replied quietly, avoiding the chief inspector's piercing, threatening eagle eyes as possible.
"Come on, take something.", His mother smiled at him friendly. Whereupon he gratefully gave her his bowl.
