Im Schatten der Zukunft
In the shadow of the future I
Hey ~
this FF takes up the fight between Noel and Lightning from "Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns" and will tell it a little differently. For how would their fight have ended if they combined more than just prophecy?
Warning: Lime or Lemon. One will definitely be. But for now I have set this FF to P16 because it is still being edited and I have not yet reached the scene in which I have to ponder more critically about the age recommendation. Information can also be found in my profile :)
I am of course happy to receive reviews or constructive criticism, but most of all I wish you a lot of fun reading this FF. :)

In the shadow of the future I
The shadows that crept through the air and multiplied more and more on the way in front of her, gave her an inkling that she was correct. It would not be long before she was close to the prophesied future, the place and the time that would determine the fate of her role in this dying world.
With resolute steps she went further and further into the deserted and dark alleys of this quarter, of which there were so many in this city, which was falling more and more into chaos and despair.
But only here would he be. Here he would wait for her, and if he kept what he promised; welcome them to this lost world at their last hour. But it should be fine with her. There was nothing left to lose. Nothing at all. And so she strode ahead with determination and on and on through the whispering of the shadows of an ominous power that echoed on the dirty walls of abandoned, run-down building facades, followed a signed invitation to death.
And admittedly, there was still a faint spark somewhere, a feeling that briefly grabbed her at the thought of a fight with him. It was there, yes, but it wouldn't stop her. She wouldn't hesitate. All human doubts had long since been blown away, there were no more annoying scruples that would encircle her heart. She won't beg for her life, but neither will she let it be taken without a fight. Especially not from someone who was supposed to be her boyfriend, from someone with whom she fought on one side so long ago ...
She narrowed the lids of her blue eyes a little when she noticed the awakening of a glow through the dark shadows at the end of the alley. Saw a predictive oracle create vivid images, occurrences that were previously unknown to her. She saw the oracle's prophecy for the first time, saw a terrible scene, foresaw her own death. And in front of the feature film of the future, sitting on the floor with his back to her, Noel. A young man who for more than five hundred years was kept alive by nothing more than the promise of a better future.
"So this is the probed future.By killing the Redeemer, a new world will be born, "her voice said softly.
But what did this future do to her?
The fingers of her right hand tentatively touched her chest, touching the black fabric over her light protective clothing, the place against which she could feel her steady heartbeat. Her gaze fell and under this movement a few strands of her morganite-colored hair fell into her handsome face. Nothing. No trouble. No fear. She knew she was likely to die, and soon enough. But she didn't mind. Her heart was beating calmly.
She raised her head calmly again, noticing how the illusions of the future changed, how they brought about the appearance of a pretty girl.
"Yul ...? I see. You dream of a new world in which you are reunited with Yul."
The prospect of a happy life with the girl who once died in his arms. These images of bright hope, the fulfillment of a deep wish that seems within reach ... they suddenly turned their former friend into their enemy.
"This is not a dream, Lightning.", Suddenly came the deep voice of the young man crouching on the dirty floor.
"The future lies in this oracle."
Isolated brown-blonde, short strands of hair and the young man's clothes were whirled up by the gentle currents of wind, which were generated by the organism of the oracle and its projected images of a better world. The delicate and innocent petals of a white flower in his outstretched left hand bobbed gently to the beat of the wind.
"I will kill the Redeemer and the world will be reborn," he continued in a calm voice, while he turned the flower around on its thin and fragile stem between his fingers.
"And this time, I'm doing everything right. It will work."
Lightning noticed how Noel lifted his head slightly. Still, he still didn't show her his face, didn't turn around, nor did he even glance over his shoulder at her.
"I have failed before, as you know. I overcame a friend in the belief that this would save everyone.", A weak sigh left his mouth and with a slow movement the flower sank, and the hand that held it down.
"But it all went wrong. Yes, I won the fight, exactly as intended. And my opponent died. But that is exactly what unleashed the chaos that is now tearing this world to pieces."
Lightning was silent, listening to what the young man had to tell her. Her attentive, scrutinizing gaze was constantly on Noel's form, and she felt all the sadness, all the anger, all the hatred that he carried with him. He hid his feelings, hid them under deceptive, false calm. And in that second she wondered how much of himself Noel had lost to his desire for revenge over the past few years. Whether she had really tried everything back then, maybe there hadn't been a possibility then to help him and her sister more. But even if it had existed ... it hadn't. She had lost her battle against chaos. Ultimately, she had not only driven Serah to death, no, she had simply thrown the whole of humanity on their fate and thus contributed to the current situation, to Noel's hatred of them.
"Noel," she said, with careful caution in her voice.
"It wasn't your fault. Never. If anyone is to blame for everything that happened, it's me."
Saying she was sorry was the only thing she could do. Even if she knew that wasn't enough. It would never be enough. When she decided to stay in crystal sleep forever, she had brought so much suffering to him, to her friends, to the whole world. She had ruined them.
In his eyes it was an undisputed fact that she was going to die.
"Maybe you are right. But that doesn't matter now.", Answered the young man and with her eyes Lightning followed the movement of Noel's left arm, realized how he carefully put the white flower from his hand on the floor.
"I'm only interested in creating a new future. This prophecy is key. My dream of seeing Yul again ... I'll make it come true."
Lightning blinked her eyelids several times as the prophecy ended, the staged images of the future faded and the gentle wind ebbed.
"Please don't take it personally, Lightning. I really wish the prophecy didn't show your death."
At that very moment Noel propped himself up on the hand of his left arm to lift himself up in an effortless, yet slow, movement. With a skillful grip on his right hand, the young man grasped the long black hilt of his weapon and elegantly pulled it out of its holder at his back.
"But she shows it. As sorry as I am, I have no other choice.", Noel explained, while he calmly turned to her.
"I began the ultimate sin five hundred years ago. What does a death count more or less on my conscience?"
With the hand of his other arm, tied with thin leather straps, he also reached for the weapon, which the young hunter was holding vertically and lengthways in front of his torso. There was a clinking noise made by the streak of sharp steel as he pulled another hidden sword blade from his weapon. An act that Lightning was watching with her ice-blue eyes. Her gaze wandered a little from the two swords that Noel held threateningly in front of her and let him see the face of her opponent.
Some strands of his brown-blond hair danced gently in the air, falling again and again into his face and she looked the young man directly into the sea-blue eyes, daring not to define the depth of the sadness and hatred that rested in them.
"But it has to be done."
She narrowed her eyes, and as if that were a sign, Noel suddenly rushed forward, both swords gripped tightly. The opening of a struggle that was inevitable and that would determine their roles in the fate of this lost world. Decided on whether she should die today ...
