Fanfic: Max in Love

Chapter: The dark knight

A gray figure crept into the hospital under cover of darkness. It was a boy who now crept past the nurses' room with ease. The nurses on the night shift were way too busy talking so they wouldn't even have seen him if he had walked upright past the room. He turned into one of the corridors and reached his destination quickly.
The boy opened the door without knocking and went into his girlfriend's room.
He had no idea what had happened. But he knew it had to be bad. How did he know? Well, she'd texted him in the middle of the night. Him and not Hilary or Ray. And not her big brother either. So, in her opinion, he was the only one she wanted near her now. She had only written one word. "темнота́" And that was exactly what worried the gray-haired man. She had never written in Russian before, he didn't even know that she could speak Russian.
It was dark in the room, not even a little light from outside penetrated the room. He had only been here once, and then he hadn't stayed very long either. But he still remembered where the bed was. He went quickly to the bed, his eyes were getting used to the darkness and he could see your outlines. Leena was curled up in bed and lying on her side. She barely moved and he had trouble noticing her breathing. An oppressive feeling spread through him and he sat down next to her on the bed. He gently shook her awake.
"Kai?" Leena whispered, barely audible. "I'm here!" he replied and helped her straighten up. It was visibly difficult for her to keep her body upright and she was relieved when Kai put her head to his chest and hugged her tightly. "What happened?" he asked shortly and after Leena had told him everything in tears he understood why she didn't want to see anyone but him.
Actually Kai couldn't do anything with all this emotional stuff and he didn't care who was with whom and why or not. But Leena was like a little sister to him. She knew a lot about him that his teammates didn't know and vice versa. They trusted each other unconditionally and Leena knew exactly in which situations it was better to leave him alone and often made sure that nobody annoyed him. Kai got angry and pressed a "coward" out. Max was just that in his eyes. A coward. Everyone knew that he was in love with Leena and yet he didn't dare to admit it to her. On the contrary, he preferred to hide behind his lie and accept that Leena would be injured. Even if it was a mistake, it made Kai angry. Leena had once told him that the first time she was in love, she was taken advantage of and lied to by this boy. So she couldn't cope with being so disappointed again. And now she would probably never want to confess her love to a boy again.
Kai tried not to talk to Leena at all. There was no use trying to convince her now. Only when she began to blame herself did he intervene and gently reprimand her with words.
When Kai was sure that he had his anger completely under control he picked up Leena's cell phone and saw on the display that Max had tried to call her 30 times. // Maybe he's not so cowardly after all. // thought Kai himself and was taught better when he read the only SMS that Max had written when he noticed that Leena ignored his calls. "Forgive me, please. I have no problem with you.But my problem has to do with you. But I can't talk about it yet. Sorry "// So a coward! // Angry he wrote an answer." Tomorrow at six at the training ground! "Kai deliberately didn't write his name under it. He wanted to talk to him and give him another chance. Leena didn't even notice that Kai was tampering with her cell phone. She didn't notice anything anymore. Only pain and sadness filled her thoughts Absentmindedly, she thanked Kai, who, although she had not asked him to, came to her in the middle of the night, he was her only ray of hope in this dark night.

The sun rose slowly and lit the room. Kai was still sitting on the bed, holding Leena in his arms. She slept but was breathing heavily. In the corridors you could hear the steps of the sisters passing by and then Kai heard a knock on the door.
An old man with glasses and a white coat entered and examined Kai carefully. The gray-haired boy scowled at the professor and was sure not to leave the room under any circumstances, no matter what the doctor might say to him. But the professor smiled in relief and began the conversation. "Good morning young man. Yesterday Miss Floyd came back very upset from her walk and didn't want any more visitors. After that, she didn't react to any of our employees and I started brooding. I could come up with highly scientific theories now, but from my experience As the father of two grown daughters, do I assume that Miss Floyd suffers from lovesickness? "His eyes now rested on Kai who nodded to him and said" The blonde ". Going to the window the doctor said: "The bush radio was right again. You know," he turned back to Kai. "The sisters whispered about it because he comes here every day. They are always very interested in young lovers." Kai was silent. He wasn't in the mood to chat with the old man. "Young man, I am very glad that you are at her side. I would like to ask you something. The young lady’s parents have not yet made any move to visit you. And, as far as I know, your brother is abroad again. She will Dismissed Thursday morning. Can you pick them up? "The professor looked at Kai seriously, who nodded. Kai was amazed at the doctor's trust and asked: "Why are you telling me this? I'm not your brother or any other relative." The professor laughed and replied: "I've been working here long enough to know that you are does not always have to be related to be a family. If you can arrange it, it would be nice if you come to me on Wednesday evening, I would then like to discuss your further medical career with you. And take care of your shoulder. "With with these words he stepped out of the room and closed the door. Kai could still hear him laughing and saying "Be young one more time". Then it went quiet again. Leena slept for a while and didn't wake up until late in the morning. Kai decided not to say a word about the conversation. He stayed the whole day and when it was half past five he disappeared with the words "I have something to do, see you later."
Leena was still in a daze, but she decided to pull herself together, got up and took a shower.
