Chapter: True friends VII - forget

Chapter 7 - forget

A slumped something sat on the bed, which had been staring at the floor for some time now.
Quatre hadn't the faintest idea how long he'd been sitting there staring holes in the wall. His sense of time had completely left him.

`I shouldn't have told him that ... he just meant well! `he gnawed his lower lip and suppressed the impulse to reach for the penknife on the bedspread.
He was already weak again. After all, he had endured the last few weeks without and inside he had drawn hope that it was finally over. He would be able to stop, but he'd just proven once again that he couldn't.

Quatre sighed softly: `And all because of such a stupid thing ... A few days ago I would have laughed if they had told me, I would let this thing drag me down ...` He was so lost in thought that he did not notice the door being opened and someone quietly entering the room.“Quatre?” Someone tapped his shoulder carefully, and the Arab looked up, startled, only to look into a pair of dark blue eyes. 'Am I wrong or is there a hint of concern to be seen? the blond thought confused, he couldn't read the expression in Heero's eyes. He had never seen the Japanese worried, to be precise, had never seen him happy either. The boy with the messy hair knew like no other how to be cold and dismissive to others.

“What do you want?” Quatre asked, his voice harsh, very different from usual.
Heero hesitated for a moment, he had never heard Quatre talk like that before. For him, the little Arab was someone who was always friendly and nice to everyone, no matter what the situation.
"I wanted ... well ..." the Japanese stuttered, Quatre raised an eyebrow and looked up at the other boy, but Heero skillfully avoided his gaze.

`Since when has he been nervous ?!`The Arab didn't like that. It never meant anything good when Heero Yuy was nervous.
"I want to talk to you. I'm sorry for what I said on the last mission!" The brown-haired boy burst out, he lowered his gaze to the floor, and so he couldn't see Quatre's expression, which was becoming more and more bewildered detect.
"Heero Yuy, perfect soldier and unfeeling chunk of ice, apologizes to me ?!"

Heero looked up and for a split second you could tell that those words had hurt him, the Arab blushed as he realized that he had spoken his thoughts out loud.
"I'm sorry ..." he mumbled softly, "But it's true and your opinion, isn't it?" The Japanese replied calmly, he had himself under control again and his voice sounded emotionless as always. Nothing showed how much Quatre's words had hurt him.
"Yes, it is," Quatre admitted tiredly, he had neither the strength nor the inclination to lie to his friend. He wouldn't believe him anyway.
Heero sighed softly, but said nothing more. His gaze fell on the knife, and he looked inquiringly at Quatre, who couldn't stand his gaze and avoided it.

“Why?” Asked the Japanese. “Why do you regularly try to kill yourself on missions?” Was the defiant reply. Quatre didn't want to answer the question, nor could he. If he could answer it, he might have had a way to prevent it.

"So you don't know," Heero stated dryly. Quatre didn't answer, it was obvious.
It took Heero a while to realize that he wasn't going to get an answer. He sighed inwardly, he wondered what he was doing here, it wouldn't do any good. Quatre was as stubborn as he was in his own way.
"Quatre?" He started the conversation again after another 5 minutes of icy silence, which became more and more uncomfortable as far as that was still possible. The blond boy looked at him questioningly: “Will you show me?” The brown-haired boy asked him hesitantly, the Arab's eyes assumed unprecedented dimensions, he had expected all of them, but not that!
He hesitated for a moment, but then came to the conclusion that he owed it to Heero, after all Heero never asked for anything else.

The Arab pushed up his sleeve and you could clearly see the individual thin lines, some after scabbing, others already scarred, but very few were faded.
Heero swallowed, trying not to let his shock show. `I always thought I could take it all. But that ... 'Heero didn't finish the thought, it was too absurd, he had seen a lot worse. Yet...

"He did it to himself ... But why?" Heero stared at the wall, he had no idea why he was so terrified by the fact that Qautre had made the cuts to himself.`Something has to be done ... 'the young man was sure of that and with this thought he included.

Two months later the war was finally over. With this, however, the pilots also parted ways. But as fate would have it, it was not long before their paths met again, the events surrounding Mariemeia's takeover made her meet her Gundams one last time and fight for peace.

Heero stood on the balcony of the wonderful property and enjoyed the quiet that would certainly not last long. He sighed and hoped the fresh air would ease his headache a bit, he felt his head burst.

“Heero?” Asked a quiet voice behind him shyly. "Huh?" He turned to Quatre, who looked at him pityingly. "You really can't take anything," he remarked and held out a glass of water. “What is that?” Asked the Japanese suspiciously. "Aspirin."said Quatre and grinned" You can use it ", the answer consisted of a mumbled unfriendly curse, which only made the grin of the Arab widen.

Heero drained the glass in one gulp and handed it back to Quatre, who had stepped beside him and was looking at the landscape below. The Japanese stood next to him in silence for a long time before he dared to break the silence: "Quatre?", "Yes?" The blond boy looked at him questioningly. "Is it now over?"
It took the Arab a long time to answer and when he did he avoided Heero's gaze, "I don't know ..." his voice was little more than a whisper when he admitted it, but then he looked up and made it to look the Japanese in the eye:
"But I'll definitely try!"

Heero smiled one of his rare smiles: “This is a start.” Quatre only nodded in response, neither of them noticed the young man who was standing in the door and also looked very satisfied."We can do it together," he said calmly and stepped over to Quatre. He put an arm around the little one's shoulder, Heero noticed this out of the corner of his eye and smiled quietly to himself, as he had said, it was a beginning, in every way.
