THE END OF THE SAIYAJIN / BLOOD IN THE SAND

Chapter 1: Velvets

Son Samten was short, slim and in general very different from his parents and grandparents. He had blond hair and, compared to his father, Goten, a real weakling. He couldn't lie down either, in short, he wasn't a real Saiyajin. Son Goten was always eager to teach Samten who was an extraterrestrial warrior and therefore brought the argument: - tail - into play. The boy had that, but he couldn't transform himself when the moon was full, only when he was extremely angry or scared did he become a monkey monster, which was exactly as big as him and instead of the usual black fur, only grew pink clumps. Son Goten's wife only said that it came because too many people had already taken a place in a Saiyajin's family tree. In any case, it was an explanation, but not what her husband wanted to believe, so the boy was sent to the nearby desert, like Son Gohan earlier. Thanks to Dende 's help, a spell was placed around the desert, namely that no living being will find its way out of it until it has reached a fighting strength of a hundred thousand. Of course, Samten knew that he would never make it, but on his twelfth birthday he was reluctantly banished there ...

The little Saiyan dragged himself weakly through the hot sand. The scorching heat of the sun bounced on his back and he felt like fried bacon. His tongue hung down to his chin and panting, he panted for refreshment. His water had already run out two hours ago without ever being able to take a sip, because it had simply dried up. Warm winds swept the ground and kicked up the dry sand. Son Samten was just heading for a group of rocks to the west to lie in the shade for a while. As clothing he wore red-brown, tattered leather pants and black desert boots.A golden bracelet with strange lines had been placed around his right wrist. It was a mark in case he was later unrecognizable and carelessly discarded like a beggar. The wind churned another meal, sand was blown into his face and his arm was held protectively over his eyes. The only weapon he had was a long, wooden knife that was stuck in his left pocket. So he would be able to pull it out elegantly with his right hand and swivel it. At the moment the sun began to approach the horizon Samten groaned at first in relief, because from now on it would only get colder and with the icy cold, a sandstorm came up. At first gently and with little wind, then stronger and with more sand. The boy had to hurry to get to the rocks in time and not be exposed to the sandy wind. Somewhat blurred, he saw his protection slowly disappearing behind a moving wall of sand.

"Damn!" said Son irritably and hit the sand with his fist, but the wall didn't move an inch further. Like quicksand they surrounded the area and further progress seemed impossible, because only moving sand could be seen, the rest had simply disappeared.

Samten faced a difficult choice, either he would keep walking or just stop. Both involved a great deal of risk, and both were too powerful for his liking. If he did not move, he would be completely filled in, but if he walked blindly he could find himself in quicksand. After pondering for a while, he decided to go on, because after all it wasn't very likely to sink into the sand, rather, and he knew it, it would be filled in. After a few steps he had put a scrap of cloth in front of his face so as not to suffocate. Only once would the rag filter the air from sand and save him another risk.He could only partially hear the howling of distant coyotes, for the rustling of the sand drowned out any sound.

Suddenly he was dragged into the sand by an invisible force. Only when his upper body was stuck in the sand did he have time to take a deep breath, then he was sucked furiously, until the grainy, yellow stuff collapsed over him like a big wave. Had he got into quicksand? Samten didn't know it pushed his hands into the sand, but the strange force was stronger and suddenly his eyes went black. All of this happened in a split second, but it seemed like two hours to the boy as he slowly but surely suffocated and sank down into the realm of the dead, but suddenly, just before death could seize him, cool air tore him in Life back and he passed out.

When he woke up, a strange man was kneeling in front of him. It was all wrapped in ribbons and kerchiefs, just right for a life of sand.He crouched like a mummy with water tanks under the bandages and waited for a sign of life from the little one. Velvet blinked in disbelief. Who were these people? It was lying on stony ground and fine sand trickled down over it. Slowly his eyes got used to the darkness and he realized that he must be in a cave under the sand. Carefully he looked up the rugged rock walls and saw a hole in the rock ceiling through which the sand came in. It was easy to see that the storm was still billowing and swirling up the thick dust and fine pebbles above it. The man's face seemed pale, sweaty, weather-beaten, and looked cautiously friendly. For a brief moment they stared into each other's dark eyes and the guy quickly grabbed a water jug and held it out to Velvet.

"You must be thirsty, drink that!" the man mumbled through the towels and waited for the boy's reaction.

"Who are you?" Samten asked, gulping greedily, and it was obvious from the stranger that he didn't like giving the water.

"They call me Dautan!" he introduced himself and the boy looked at his dark, barely existing brows. "And don't ask me any more. The walls have ears!" Although Samten would have burned one more question on the tongue, it really wasn't so important that he couldn't think of the answer himself, and so he finally said, Dautan stretching out his hand and putting down the jug:

“I am Velvet!” The stranger did not take his hand, but looked around briefly.

“The clan will take care of your name! The old one doesn't count here!” He now noticed Son that the man was a child of about fifteen. "Since the adults destroyed our housing estates, we had to disappear underground. The whole desert is criss-crossed with caves and passages!" he continued in a hoarse voice. The younger of the two was amazed. He had once heard his uncle Gohan say that when he was sent into the desert, he had met a couple of orphaned children who were being terrorized by the adults ... There was no longer any doubt for him, these had to be the children!

"Follow me!" the tall one mumbled a little insistently and crouched down the aisle.

"What should I do with the mug?" asked Samten, sitting up. After some thought, the other grumbled:

“Take him with you!” The blonde did as he was told and followed Dautan up a narrow, round corridor. Samten didn't know why they hadn't taken the wide path, but finally he stopped puzzling over it and followed his guide into the darkness. He didn't know why he trusted him blindly. It couldn't have anything to do with Gohan 's story, he sensed that. Maybe because he gave him water?

Son didn't have time to think about it anymore, because a sharp pain in his shoulder made him jump.

"Ouch!" he groaned and grimaced.

"What?" Dautan asked suddenly, turned around and crawled over to his protégé. "What happened?" he asked a second time when he got closer.

"It must have happened when I fell ..." Samten said in a broken voice and touched his injured shoulder. When he took his fingers back and before his eye, he saw blood on his hand. The wound burned badly when he moved his arm and howled.

"An open break!" Dautan gasped, "You will be able to tell our way from the blood trail!" He pointed to a few drops of blood that marked the passage.

“Who are you?” Groaned the injured, confused, and winced again from the pain.

"I said you shouldn't ask any questions!" shouted the big, grabbed Samten's good arm and pulled him on ...
