Fire

Chapter 4 fire

So went the rest of the week. The Bladebrakers met almost every day at Kai's now and Kari was always there. That's how she got to know Hillary. A fateful mistake as Tyson and Co soon discovered. It would be okay if the two couldn't stand each other, but what the two did every lunchtime was too much for the boys. The two had been inseparable on the first day. When they were together, all you could hear was cackling and giggling. They were always talking about women's affairs or thinking about some kind of prank. Tyson was desperate. His otherwise sensible girlfriend kept changing. He was glad that Hillary had finally found a real girlfriend, but because of that she hardly had time for him. Max, too, was helplessly at the mercy of this close friendship. He almost didn't have Kari to himself anymore. Either the two chatted extensively or they went shopping. While the boys were training.
Kari was only blading for fun and only now and then. She rarely trained and she said she only had the Bey Arena in her garden built if she felt like it.
Max was depressed. Even when he tried to call Kari it was either busy or the second phone rang in the middle of the conversation. That was especially annoying to Tyson. As soon as he was alone with Hillary for a while, whether with her, with him or on the go, she was always on the phone.
Kai, Rei and Kenny could only shake their heads about it. They didn't really care. For Kai it was just "a little" difficult to get used to the cackling. At first he was so annoyed that he put Drancer on their necks (under their skirts). The sight of two girls screaming in fright was actually enough for him as compensation, but when the two fell backwards from the bench, he was more than satisfied. In the meantime he contented himself with shouting out loud at her now and then. He had very different things on his mind.
The week at school had been quite normal. Except for the tiny thing about Shia. It was still Kai's main thought number two, after the dream.
She actually talked even less than on the first day and she didn't have any friends. The boys all raved about her and courted her, but that left her cold. Until now she hadn't paid any attention to a single one.
It was yesterday, on Friday, in the last hour. They had art and their job was to paint a picture on the subject of fire. The teacher said:
"Fire has something to do with warmth, maybe when you saw a fire you were cozy and warm or even really hot. You can choose whether you want to draw a campfire or something else, for example."
Kai was, although it didn't really suit him, artistically quite gifted. He painted a picture of his drancer. The blade spun in the lower part and the rest of the paper showed his BitBiest in all its glory. It took Kai the whole double lesson. When he was done he couldn't help but look over at Shia.
Her picture was impressive. And in a terrifying way. She had painted a blade that was completely on fire and already completely black. It wasn't a pretty sight for a blader like Kai. A little irritated, he asked her:
“Why are you drawing something like that?” It had been very quiet in the room, but when everyone heard Kai speaking, their ears perked up and some heads flew around.
He repeated his question loud and clear to get an answer.
“Why are you drawing something like that?” Now his voice sounded cold and merciless as it used to be. Shia slowly turned her head over. The resemblance of their voices was amazing.
“Because it's so right!” Just as cold. Just as ruthless. But with her as always.
Then she packed up her things and left. Kai had completely overheard the ringing. That was the last thing Kai had seen of Shia since then.It was Saturday morning and Kai didn't know what to do with himself. How unfortunate. He didn't feel like calling any of his friends. Rei had gone to the mountains for the weekend to meditate, Max and Tyson wanted to meet their loved ones and, to be honest, he wasn't too keen on Kenny. He had slept pretty badly again tonight. He had had that strange dream again. He couldn't shake the feeling that this time the angel could be seen more clearly than usual. He still hadn't seen the face. But this time the light around the angel was clearly reddish. Like flames through fog. That worried him. With a low sigh, he got up from the sofa. He went into his room and opened a small drawer on his bedside table. He took out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter and pocketed them all. Something else only Rei knew about. He had started smoking since he had that dream. Bad habit, but somehow it calmed him. When he felt that something was pulling through his lungs with every pull, he felt that he was alive.
Some would call it stupid, but the thought calmed him.
He took his keys and left.

Sequel follows...

I hope you enjoyed the part (if anyone is reading it), it was a bit short and not much happened either, but the next part will be better. I would appreciate your comments because 1. I don't know if someone is reading and 2. I don't know if you like it.
See you soon yours
