Chapter 2:
White shirts
"I need the Higurashi file. Can you find her for me? "
"Thats my job."
Inuyasha leaned against the counter of the police archive and waited patiently until the elderly archivist had picked out the requested file. She was just typing the request into the computer on her desk - clack, clack, clack. Inuyasha looked around the room from his seat. Despite the many cupboards in which countless files from criminals of all kinds were stowed away, it was very cozy in the large, winding archive in the basement of the police headquarters - Kaede had done a good job in it, making the office as pleasant as possible for herself and her two employees and Inuyasha loved staying here - and not just because he was very fond of the old woman. Despite her age, she had always had a sharp tongue and a perky sense of humor, not to mention that she exuded that special kind of maternal warmth and was always able to give wise advice. He always enjoyed talking to her when his way down here. She was also an old friend of his mother's and had known him when he was very little.
"Higurashi, Itzu or Higurashi, Kagome?"
"Higurashi, Kagome."
More typing on the keyboard - clack, clack, clack.
Inuyasha frowned thoughtfully. He hoped that the woman's file could help them, or at least give them a little hint about the solution to this case. So far it looked very meager, and they hadn't had the opportunity to interrogate her - an unheard-of fact, considering that the murder had been well over a week ago. Inuyasha growled softly. How should they ever get on like this? Perhaps a glimpse into her files would reveal more and allow a closer look at her past. He was sure that this case and the one down in Osaka three years ago were related.Frankly, it would be stupid not to believe it, because the similarity immediately caught your eye. Both victims came from better backgrounds, were young and successful, and had a bright future ahead of them. Likewise, both had died equally, namely by strangulation when they had been home alone - and both had been in a relationship with Kagome Higurashi. Was the last point a coincidence? Or a clear indication that she had something to do with the murders? Strangling actually spoke against a woman as the perpetrator.
“I can't find her.” Kaede's voice abruptly pulled him out of his thoughts. His shoulders tensed as the meaning of her words sank.
“What?” The older lady gave him a reproachful look at his rather impolite question - probably the only person besides his mother who could afford that - and repeated her words patiently.
"I said I can-"
"Yeah, I understood you", Inuyasha interrupted her impatiently, "But what do you mean, you can't find her?The file should actually be here! "
Kaede took another look at her computer screen. "Probably it has not yet arrived from Osaka," she said. "It was originally kept down there. But actually it should have been there a long time ..." She frowned thoughtfully. "I'll have to ask the archive in Osaka some time."
"Okay, do that. I need this file." That too! What else should go wrong? With a stressed sigh, he ran all ten fingers through his hair and briefly closed his eyes. Kaede recognized the gesture, a typical sign for him that he was stressed or exhausted.
“I'll let you know when the file arrives.” Inuyasha gave her a quick nod of thanks and then started to leave the archive.
"Oh, Inuyasha, how is your mother doing?" Kaede's voice stopped him.
Inuyasha turned around again and leaned against the door frame. "Better thank you.Doctors say she got through the worst. "
The archivist nodded with a smile. "Nice to hear that. I'll go visit her in the next few days. You can tell her that if you come to her in the meantime."
Inuyasha smiled back, pushing herself off the doorframe. "I'll do that. She'll be happy. So, I have to go on now! Have a nice day!" He turned around and waved over his shoulder again carelessly before strolling back to his desk on the 2nd floor.
"Have a nice day, Inuyasha," Kaede said afterwards and then sighed softly. He looked tired. With another sigh, she shook her graying head and turned to the computer. Now she would take care of these files first ...

“Coffee too?” Inuyasha gave the styrofoam cup in Miroku's hands a disgusted look, then the half-broken coffee machine at the other end of the office and shook her head.He really drank everything ... Miroku shrugged his shoulders and took a seat across from his partner.
“Hey, what happened to your cheek?” Inuyasha raised an eyebrow in amusement, very well aware of what had happened to that cheek. His partner touched the reddened area on his left cheek, which was still faintly recognized as a handprint, grinning slightly. "Weren't you just going to go get some reports?"
Miroku grinned. "Well, Deiji's secretary is damn pretty too ..."
"And has a firm punch?" Inuyasha said, also grinning, "And I thought you wanted to stay loyal to Sango ..." (A / N: @Azhura: Voilà, you have her, good Sango! Not in person, but it will come! ^ ^)
The other man immediately protested at the accusation, his eyes shining at the mention of his beloved, "Hey! We're not even together!"
"I always said the girl had something in her pear."
"Keep laughing! You will see! I'll soon have her ready to go out with me! "
Inuyasha raised an eyebrow in suspicion. "Out of pity?"
"Pah, I already fell for it", Miroku grinned without responding to his friend's mockery. Somehow Inuyasha had strong doubts about the correctness of this statement - no wonder when you consider that 90% of the slaps and headbuttons that Miroku received every day came from said "dilapidated".
"Besides, when was the last time you met a woman, huh, Yash?"
"That doesn't matter," Inuyasha replied tersely and abruptly changed the subject, "Did you find out something in the homicide reports?". Miroku sent him a look under a raised eyebrow, but let it go. Shaking his head in the negative, he slapped a thin file on the desk.
"No, nothing useful, unfortunately. The guy seems to have been honesty in person. He had a sparkling white vest.No previous convictions, no scandals covered up, no files with the police, nothing. The preliminary research didn't reveal much, but I doubt we'll find out much more. "
“So no clues as to a motive, or a possible perpetrator?” Another shake of the head was the answer. Inuyasha slowly leaned back in his chair and stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"We need to dig deeper, I suppose. Everyone has enemies, even someone like him. There may be a few people who wanted revenge for working against them in the past. The guy was a lawyer, that we mustn't forget. Maybe we'll find a reference to the perpetrator there. "
"Do you think so? I mean, there is still this similar case from three years ago. Suppose it is the same perpetrator, then that actually rules out a personal act of revenge."
Inuyasha nodded slowly. "You're right, they're mutually exclusive.Besides the perpetrator, there was still a chicken to pluck with both victims, of course. "
"But if I were the culprit, I would not have committed the two murders in the same way," Miroku mused aloud and took a sip from his mug. "That is far too conspicuous."
"Hm ... maybe the perpetrator took advantage of that too. If, for example, he had heard about the case in Osaka and for this reason had committed the crime in the same way ...?"
Miroku leaned forward in his chair, interested. "You mean, if the killer had nothing to do with the case 3 years ago, but had taken advantage of the similarity? Then nobody would come up with him as the perpetrator ..."
Inuyasha nodded emphatically. "Exactly! Because everyone would think that the two murders are related. And he would have the perfect scapegoat ...", he looked at his partner under grim eyebrows, "... the woman."“Kagome Higurashi.” The other sighed. "The woman is a problem and, unlike her fiancé, completely opaque. We don't have a lot of information about her because she has not been properly heard, nor is her file, as you say. Do you know the reason why she is? has not yet been sent here from Osaka? "
When asked, Inuyasha shrugged no. "Maybe there was a problem with shipping."
Miroku nodded. "Yes, maybe. For now, we only have what the preliminary investigations into the murder of Houjo Shikouta have shown. And that's not much." He leaned forward and picked up the file on the desk. Leafing through it, he went on talking. "She has a clear alibi for the night of the murder, was practically always with someone. She was at a friends party, then she took a taxi to the apartment where she lived with her fiancé. There she went found the dead man and immediately alerted the police.A friend escorted her home in a taxi and then came upstairs to the apartment, so she couldn't have committed the crime at the time. Besides, the man had been dead for hours when they found him, the coroner's examination revealed. You don't know more about the night of the murder, or about the woman, except that she was completely beside
