Chapter 5 The herb garden

Inuyasha stormed into Kaede's hut and laid Kagome on her bed. This came in immediately and examined the girl.

Meanwhile Kaede fetched some cool water from the well. Kagome got a fever. Sango stayed with her the whole time, put a cloth with this same water on her forehead and moistened it again and again when it got dry. Shippo was very exhausted, he was still a child and went to sleep, but had a very bad dream. Kaede himself went with Miroku on the veranda in front of the hut and asked him what had happened. This told her everything he knew. The old woman now saw exactly how this incident could have come about.Inuyasha ran and ran. He only had his Kagome in mind. He didn't even notice that he and Kagome already knew this herb garden. At the very beginning, a few weeks after she had released him from his spell on the holy tree, they passed this garden and made sure of it (well, at that time Kagome was almost alone the driving force, Inuyasha had this only because of his own Childhood remembered and rather frightened) that the villagers had befriended the half-demon Jinenji and his mother. * That's Kagome's way, as far as possible, to make the best of everything! *
Inuyasha ran through the night again. On the one hand he was afraid of going back to sleep, but in the first place he was plagued by the idea that he would be late and that Kagome would not make it.

When evening came, Miroku took over from Sango at Kagome's bedside. Despite his concern for Kagome, he wanted the demon hunter to get some sleep too.He could see how exhausted she was. Shippo was awake again and kept him company.

“If Inuyasha is fast enough, she'll make it!” Sango, who couldn't sleep properly, woke up in her night camp and heard what Miroku said to Shippo. She quietly prayed that Inuyasha would be back soon enough.

Shortly before the moon wanted to leave the horizon, Inuyasha arrived at the herb garden described by Kaede. Now he knew it again, he knew what happened back then. He pounded on the door.
"Is anyone at home? Open up!" There was no answer. He pounded again hard on the door so that it trembled on its hinges. But when he got no answer again, the Hanyou broke through the entrance on the spot. Wood splintered, the door cracked, but the hut was dark.Nobody was home. At that moment Inuyasha left the forces that worried about his Kagome had awakened in him. *That can not be true. What should I do? What can I do? * He felt the despair wash inside him and Kagome's pale face stood out clearly before his eyes. He couldn't wait! He ran to the village. After a short sprint, he got there. The villagers recognized him immediately, only the small children were frightened because they were still too young at the time.
"Where are Jinenji and his mother?" Inuyasha shouted excitedly, urgently, but the villagers could not answer him and shook their heads helplessly. He felt his desperation grow - how could he save Kagome without the herbs? But finally an old lady was able to give him an answer:
"They are gone for a few weeks. They wanted to get new seeds for herbs that are not easy to get here." The Hanyou dropped his shoulder weakly.He didn't know what to do next and trotted away lifeless. He felt burned out.

Kaede looked towards the sun, it was just before its highest point of the day. “Inuyasha, you have to hurry, otherwise Kagome won't make it!” The girl's condition became critical. Her body grew weaker and weaker, her fever rose and her breath could hardly be felt, let alone heard.
"What can we do to buy Inuyasha some more time?" Sango asked the wise woman.
"I don't know, the night before you came back here, I had a visit from a stranger. She was hit by the same spell as Kagome. I had to give her everything except for a little bit of my herbs, otherwise it would be her just as happened to Kagome now. "
That was it! * I didn't tell anyone who was here and I found a solution to buy some time. * Sango saw a small smile on the old woman's face.
“Sango, come with me!” They went into old Kaede's hut as quickly as their legs could carry.She took a small mug from a shelf on the wall. Carefully she lifted Kagome's head and poured the contents into her mouth. More out of reflex - after all, she wasn't conscious - she swallowed it.

Inuyasha trotted slowly out of the village. A little girl ran after him. “Is your name Inuyasha?” He looked at the girl in amazement, the little children had just been afraid of him.
"Yes, what do you want?" Then came back from him rather unintentionally harshly. "The old one sent me to bring you to her. Maybe she can help you!" Inuyasha's eyes lit up briefly with a spark of new hope. It was worth a try because he never wanted to give up. So he followed the girl. After a short walk, they came to a hut and went inside. The inside of the hut was in semi-darkness and in one corner he saw a really very old woman sitting on a chair, wrapped in layers of old clothes, who was obviously waiting for him.“What can I do for you, my boy?” Inuyasha hated such phrases, but he had no choice and let it go. He handed her the note from Kaede. The old woman read it and smiled.
"That's not a problem. I also know a lot about herbs, I'll get them for you. You also made sure that we became a permanent village community again, so this help is the least I can do for you and it is intended for the girl, Kagome, who accompanied you back then! "
Inuyasha agreed with the woman with relief. They went to the herb garden and the woman gave the hanyou the used herbs in a bag.
“Now hurry up, it is urgently needed!” She didn't need to say much more. Inuyasha even forgot to say goodbye and was on the way back to Kaede's village as fast as he could.

The old woman waved to him, then turned to the girl who Inuyasha had brought to her and gave her a small toy.* Thank God, he didn't notice my smell through these terrible clothes * the woman grinned softly to herself.

After Kagome had swallowed the rest of Kaede's potion, her breathing became a little stronger again. It was a small ray of hope for everyone, maybe Inuyasha could make it back soon enough. In the meantime he hurried as he could. He begged everything that seemed powerful and good to him that he would make it.

Shortly after he reached Kaede's village, he shouted through the streets "I'M BACK AGAIN! HOW'S KAGOME?" In Kaede's hut he was able to find out for himself. She was doing very badly. The little potion Kaede had given her was about to lose its effect.
"Old witch, I tell you hurry up, otherwise ..."
"Shut up and let me do it, I've prepared everything!" Kaede started to finish the potion.

After the potion was poured into Kagome, it could be clearly seen that it was correct and that the dosage was appropriate.But it would be a while before she would come to. Inuyasha stayed by her bed the whole time.
