The Orange Murder

Conan put his school bag next to the door and sighed audibly. The Detective Boys had kept him busy today. First they had to end a little argument in the school yard about an allegedly stolen Yaiba character who was only left in the classroom, and then, to make matters worse, their 'investigation' made them late for class published. That had then resulted in detention for four people. As Shinichi Kudo, of course, he had already had to detain twice, but that together with Ran. They had whispered in class and from then on Ran hadn't let him get involved in a conversation during the lesson."Conan, will you bring your school bag to your room, please?" Asked Ran, who was looking out of the kitchen. "Otherwise Dad will trip over it again."
* Stumbling is good! The last time he was so drunk he staggered as if he were standing on a ship's deck in a storm. The master detective fell over his own feet! * Conan took the bag and did as Ran told him to do. Then he went into the kitchen, where Ran was standing at the stove, cooking the late lunch and Kogoro was sitting quite listlessly at the table.
"Why did you come from school so late?", Ran asked him.
"Ayumi, Genta, Mitsuhiko and I had to detain. We missed the hour bell."
She put a plate of noodles in front of him and her father and then sat down with them at the table. Kogoro poked around listlessly in his food and indistinctly grumbled something about 'poor people's food'. Ran had heard that, but only gave him a dirty look. Conan grinned inwardly. As a Shinichi, she had often looked at him that way.
The office phone started ringing and Kogoro instantly jumped up, as if he had just been waiting for an opportunity like this, and dashed into the office. Ran and Conan got up and followed him. He picked up the receiver: “Detective agency Mori, what can I do for you?” Kogoro listened briefly to the caller and then growled in the affirmative. After doing this several times, he said "I'll be right there!" from himself and euphorically slammed the phone down. "Someone needs my services! And since Kogoro Mori never keeps a customer waiting and we are short of cash, I will immediately go to see the client."
"Are you driving the car?", Ran wanted to know.
"Of course, Mausebein. Why do you ask?"
Begging, she clasped her hands in front of her face and walked as close as possible to him. "Can you drop me off at the mall on the way? I have some Christmas shopping to do."Kogoro sniffed briefly in annoyance, but then agreed.
"You, uncle?" Conan drew attention to himself. "May I come to see the client?"
But the detective wouldn't let that happen to him. "It’s got so far that I’ll voluntarily take you to my customers! What should people think of me when I bring in such a cheeky snot spoon?"
"But, I want to see exactly how well you solve the case, so that later on I can become just as ingenious a detective as you!", Replied the boy and didn't miss the desired effect.
Kogoro laughed self-indulgent and scratched his head. "Well, if that's the case, I don't want to withhold the treasures of my well-developed mind from the youth!"
* Huh, what a great way of expression! He always falls for this belly brush egg. Not that I'm particularly interested in this case, but the money has to come from somewhere. These noodles á la cheap are also not the real thing in the long run. *~~~~~

Half an hour later, Kogoro and Conan were at the front door of the villa. Villas were nothing special to Conan, especially since he knew how lonely you could feel in such a big house. Kogoro rang the bell and a short time later a young maid with freckles and brown hair opened the door. "Hello, you must be Mr. Mori. Mr. Atoyama Junior is already waiting for you in the library. I will show you there." Then she turned around and the two followed her.
She stopped in front of a huge oak door and bowed slightly. "This is the library. Please go in!"
Kogoro turned the handle and stepped inside, Conan in tow. The housemaid closed the door behind them from the outside. Conan turned around and was amazed. There was a huge library in the kudos' house, which contained all kinds of detective novels, but this one was at least twice as big. The shelves stretched up to six meters, and in the center of the room was an old-fashioned fireplace with an armchair, sofa, and small table in front of it.Kitschy, but still tasteful.
A young, blond man was sitting on the armchair, who got up and walked towards her. He held out his hand to Kogoro. "Mr. Mori, I am really very grateful to you for coming. Without question, I will reimburse you for the costs incurred by the journey."
"Nice that you mention that," Kogoro replied bluntly and then nodded briefly in the direction of Conan. "This is Conan. He's currently staying with us. I hope he doesn't bother you. You just have to give a peep and he's sitting outside in the hallway."
However, Mr. Atoyama only smiled. "No, that's okay. I like children very much. Have a seat!" He waved his hand to the sofa and the guests took their seats. He himself sat down on the armchair again.
"So what can I do for you?" Asked Kogoro.
Mr. Atoyama's face suddenly took on an expression of concern. "I want you to find out something for me.My father, Hiroshi Atoyama, is a very successful businessman. Usually he's always very friendly and courteous, but lately he's been looking very bitter and bullied by Miss Himo, the maid. So I'm worried about him. You should find out what the reasons for his strange behavior are. You see, if something goes wrong in the company, I need to know something like that, because I'll be taking over soon. "
Kogoro nodded. "That shouldn't be a problem for me. For the famous detective Kogoro Mori, no case is too difficult or even unsolvable."
Conan beside him rolled his eyes. * Boy, boy, if he didn't have me ... *
You were just getting up when suddenly a scream tore through the silence of the house.
"Mother!" Stated Mr. Atoyama with a start and ran out of the library. Kogoro and Conan also ran after him.
They darted up a wide flight of stairs and then down the hall into a room. All three stood frozen and looked at the corpse on the floor. A woman of about fifty was already standing in the room with her hands over her mouth. Her eyes had widened. Mr. Atoyama knelt beside the body. "Father!" He shouted.
The maid also entered the room and turned pale in a flash. Kogoro turned to her and loudly instructed her to call the police.

"Soso ...", Inspector Megure mumbled and gave Kogoro a scrutinizing look. "So you were in the library when you heard the scream?"
"Yes, inspector, that's it!" Replied Kogoro.
"With all due respect, you seem to be a real bad luck bringer for the victims ..." He turned to Mr. Atoyama, who was giving Miss Himo a comforting hug. "You are Yaichi Atoyama, right?"
Atoyama nodded. "Yes I am."
"You were sitting in the library with Mr. Mori when your mother, Mrs. Asami Atoyama, discovered your father's body?""Yes that's true."
Megure noted something in his notebook and then looked at Mrs. Himo, who was completely in tears. "Miss Suki Himo, you are the Atoyama family maid, right?"
"Y ... yes," she sniffed.
"What were you doing when Mr. Atoyama was found dead?"
"I ... I just d ... took the laundry out of the dryer."
Megure wrote something down again. Then Takagi came to him and said: "The first finding is there. The time of death is estimated to be between one and two o'clock. The cause of death is cyanide poisoning."
Conan's eyes narrowed. Yes, that would explain why the corpse with the chair toppled over and landed on the floor. "Do you already know how the poison was transmitted?"
Takagi glanced briefly at the report. “We found remnants of it on this handkerchief that was on the desk.” He picked up a clear plastic bag with a green checked handkerchief in it.Conan took a good look at it and found that it was neatly folded.
"We assume that the victim wiped his nose on it and that residues of the poison stuck to his lips. However, we could only find the potassium cyanide on the inside of the fold."
* Strange ... * Conan looked around the study. A desk, shelves with folders and books and the overturned chair with the corpse next to it. He was out of the question who the suspects were.
"So we can narrow the circle of suspects to three people," Kogoro began, "then Ms. Atoyama, Mr. Atoyama Junior and Ms. Himo. Only you could poison the handkerchief."
"But why should any of us kill my father?" Atoyama shouted angrily. "Who would have what of his death?"
Kogoro put his hands in his trouser pockets and bowed his head slightly in deliberation. "First and foremost, you would have benefited from it yourself. Suppose you knew that the company's business was really bad and saw the only chance of saving the company by knocking your father off the executive chair early on."Megure directed Takagi to investigate the company's financial position, and the young inspector hurried off.
"Now to you, Miss Himo," Kogoro went on, "without a doubt you had a motive too. As Mr. Yaichi Atoyama told me before the body was found, the senior of this house terrorized you. Some people with tender hearts can already do that sometimes lose control of yourself and murder someone. "
Miss Himo sobbed out loud, whereupon Atoyama took her in his arms again and looked at Kogoro punishingly. But he was not deterred and looked at Ms. Atoyama, a black-haired woman in an elegant red suit. She stood leaning against a bookshelf, staring straight ahead as she rubbed her right hand nervously.
"Ms. Atoyama had no apparent motive to kill her husband," said Kogoro.
But she shook her head
