Welcome To The Southern Carpathians

"How much longer will we be on the road?" Asked Anette, looking bored at the snowy landscape from the car window.
"Actually, we should be arriving in the village soon," answered the driver of the car.
"I think you said that half an hour ago."
Professor Samantha Abronsius, renowned for her work in the natural sciences at the University of Königsberg, has just been on a scientific trip to the Southern Carpathians with her assistant. The scientist had been talking about her long-awaited project for a long time, even if most of her colleagues dismissed her as a weirdo. She would bring you the proof that your great-great-grandfather had tried long ago to present to the world.
"Ah, look there. There are lights," remarked Samantha and headed for the village.Visibly happy, the two ladies entered an inn.
"Looks nice," said Anette, looking at the inside.
"Hello? Mr. Landlord?" Called the Professor and looked around searchingly. As soon as she had called, two men rushed towards her.
"Welcome to the" Am Platz "hotel," they greeted and bowed.
"I phoned you a few days ago about a room."
"Ah yes," said the one who had leafed through a book. "You are sure Ms. Professor Abronsius, aren't you?"
"Correct."
"You want to move into your room immediately. It's late too. If you would follow me then, please." The man led her up the stairs while the other dragged the women's bags.
When they arrived in the room, they first fell into the beds. The drive had been exhausting, if only because you couldn't stretch out.
"AHHHH!" Shouted Anette and jumped up.
"You have to scare someone like that," said Samantha, looking up startled." What's happening?"
“I forgot Cecile in the car.” The girl quickly grabbed her mentor's car keys and dashed out into the cold. A few minutes later she came back with a bird cage in her arms that was covered with a dark blue velvet blanket.
"You poor little one, I almost forgot you Cecile," the girl took the velvet blanket from the grille and thus revealed what its contents were. A bat hung upside down on the perch and looked at its owner, showering black eyes. The bat was an albino and was owned from an early age by Anette, who lovingly took care of her pet. She freed the flying animal from its prison and sat with her on the bed. "You're sure to be hungry," she took a glass out of her backpack, the contents of which were some insects, some of which she gave to her little animal. After Cecile had been fed, the two women allowed themselves a bite to eat. With their bellies well-filled, they could lie down in their beds and have nice dreams as long as they still had the opportunity."I slept like a dead person that night," said Anette, who was having breakfast with the professor.
"Speaking of dead," Samantha said between a few bites of her bread. "We should start investigating here."
As one of the employees walked past them, she stopped them to ask important questions.
"Do you happen to know where a castle is here?"
This question seemed to have aroused a certain unease in everyone who had listened. The woman looked at both of them in silence and then said that there wasn't a lock anywhere.
"But loud ...," the professor tried to explain but was interrupted by the attendant.
“You probably have some false information.” And so the woman went to go about her job.
"Wrong information," Samantha repeated, and snorted.
"It could be," said her assistant and caught a slightly insulted look from her teacher.
"Or maybe they just have something to hide."" And what?"
"What are we looking for, Anette?"
"Yes, yes, I know. That was a purely reflex question."
"I think," said the professor and saw how everyone in the inn eyed the two suspiciously, "we seem to be on the right track."
"Because we all look weird?"
Mrs. Abronsius sighed. That wasn’t the first time that she’s been strangely observed, but with the behavior of the people here it was all too clear that something was wrong.

"What do you think, Cecile. Are there any vampires around here?" Anette asked her little bat. Cecile stared at her foster mother. “You already know that you have to go into hibernation at this time of year, don't you?” The flying mammal gave a short squeak as if to say “Don't feel like it”. Anette seuzt. There she had a really stubborn specimen that didn't even want to go into hibernation in winter. The professor was out in the village asking everyone about a castle or strange creatures that were only active at night, while her assistant sat in the hotel room and talked to her bat.Anette would love to see a real vampire. She and her mentor had been to a few places and had spoken to people who said they were vampires. However, it turned out again and again that it was only normal people simply with a quirk for vampirism and lived it out. All scientists and doctors, and who knows, thought that these were the only vampires and that there weren't really any beings who only lived at night and fed on other people's blood. They also didn't want to believe that there were some who seemed to live forever and that was exactly where the professor wanted to prove the opposite. Ever since she'd read an old notebook from her great-great-grandfather Professor Abronsius, which was her only memento of her ancestor, she'd seemingly obsessed with proving what he'd dedicated his life to. It was also one of the reasons why she had taken back her old family name.Anette, who was apparently the only one who seemed to share an obsession with vampires with her teacher, was convinced that vampires existed. Sometimes she contradicted the professor, but only to encourage her a little when she seemed disappointed.
Just as Anette was holding a beetle through the bars of her little animal, Samantha stormed through the door. Startled, the girl dropped the beetle, and Cecile immediately complained.
"I think we have a hot lead," Samantha reported with a big grin as if she had been told she was a Nobel Prize winner, which she will surely become once she has proven that vampires existed.
"Why? Did you find a sucked-out corpse?" Anette grinned.
"Not exactly. I just happened to be able to ask a drunken passer-by about a lock and, imagine, there really is one out there."
"Fine," the girl could only say and handed the fallen beetle to her bat." And?"
"And, you ask?" Samantha didn't seem to be able to fully understand the question. "We will of course pay a visit to this castle!"
"I thought so. And when?"
"Immediately?" At the same time, the professor had her bags in hand.
"Wait a minute, can you really believe the testimony of a drunk?"
"...," Samantha considered these words for a moment. It could very well be that it was just a pipe dream of a drunken villager who had seen too many horror films or the bitter truth. Without answering, the vampire slayer was sure that if you didn't find out for yourself, you would never be able to collect evidence for all the unbelievers in this world. A few seconds later, both women were sitting in the car.
"But do you know exactly where to go to the castle?" Anette's question was justified as both had been circling around the forest without a plan for some time and seemed to get nowhere except 10 times at the same groups of trees. The darkness of the forest did not let the driver of the car see exactly where they were going.
"Nobody told me that, but at some point we have to make it," Samantha was of the opinion and drove on cross-country.
Cecile, who had Anette and her cage on her lap, seemed a little restless. Several times she flapped her wings to get attention.
"I know it's boring, Cecile. But what are we supposed to do in here?" Asked the science assistant.
"All right," Samantha stopped the car. "What should we do now?"
In the distance there was an eerie wolf howl that in a short time swelled into many and united into one. Fearfully, Cecile, who had just fluttered wildly, heard the movement towards herself and stared silently through the car window.
"In any case, I will not get out," said Anette at the sound of the nocturnal howl.
Both women thought about what and especially where to go. The forest was so dark and the moon over the tops of the giants gave only moderate light. When the howling had ceased and ghosts spread silently, Professor Abronsius drove slowly on.
"There, take a look," Anette called and pointed between some trees. A junction that was barely recognizable ran through another part of the forest. "But we weren't there earlier."
The car was already creeping along the bumpy road. Cecile was shaken up quite a bit and she also gave her displeasure according to Kund, but Samantha could not be dissuaded from continuing to drive. They drove and drove, faster and faster as the road became more stone-less. In the end they were so fast that Anette felt as if the trees were blurring into one another.
"P-Professor!" She exclaimed almost hysterically as her teacher swept around a curve that was close to a cliff. Samantha didn't let herself be disturbed and drove on. Slowly the student wondered where the professor got her driver's license from.
"CAUTION !!!," Anette screeched when suddenly a light in the distance of the forest came on and came closer.Even Cecile shrieked loudly and flapped her wings against the bars. With an emergency stop, Samantha tried to come to a stop, but the snowy path was not exactly helpful and her speed decreased only minimally. The closer they got to the light, the more panic Anette seemed to get. At any moment they would ram this a bit. Frau Professor would evade, only there were the trees that were quite close to the wayside and prevented any evasion. Now they were already slower, but the car kept sliding on. Just a few more meters. Both women were praying inwardly and
